Mindblowing, i saw it in 1985 and it made a deep impression back then. For me the best band Chaka ever had. Choreography (for instance look how the backgroundsingers move), performance and the way Michael Ruff leads the band, just perfect. It doesn't get any better for me. We are very fortunate to be able to enjoy such talent.
Michael Ruff & Friends Band ! Minus the singers & one guitar - Did shows all the time with them mostly "At My Place" in Santa Monica, CA. Performing completely spontaneously. What a rush it was !
2:00 - This is my Night 5:30 - What Cha’ Gonna do for Me 9:45 - Eye to Eye 15:19 - Rufus Medley, Sweet Thing 18:00 - Everlasting Love 20:30 - Tell Me Something Good 26:30 - I’m a Woman (I’m a Backbone) 32:00 - And the Melody Still Lingers On 38:40 - We Can Work It Out 46:00 - I Feel for You 53:00 - Ain’t Nobody
Richtig tolle Lieder aus den 1970ern singt sie auch und das auch wirklich live und gute Musik war das sowieso noch eher als vieles von heutzutage und Chaka Khan hat es wirklich drauf, super inklusive ain't Nobody
Chaka is definitely one of the greatest singers ever on the planet. As far as vocal strength, she is second to no one. Absolutely no one can hold a candle to her and she proves it in this live performance. You can hear on the song EYE TO EYE where it seems as though she was starting to lose her voice and go hoarse but then on SWEET THING and EVERLASTING LOVE she bounces back and that voice just kicks in again. I already give this concert a 10 and trust and believe this is not Chaka at her full voice. But can you imagine if she was full voice at 100%. Many of these young new singers can barely sing a live and yet Chaka can pull it off not at full capacity of her voice. So it just goes to show that she can sing these new singers under the table even if she starts to go hoarse. She always tries her best to give us her all no matter what. Chaka you are the QUEEN and a trouper to the max.
Since nobody cares about the BAND, well I do. As far as I can recognize, here's what I think. Drums: Armand Grimaldi; Bass: Jimmy Haslip; Guitars: Snuffy Walden & Jeff Johnson; Keyboards: Michael Ruff (musical director) & Tony Patler; Percussion: (don't know); Backup vocals: Lisa Fischer, Sandra St.Victor, Brenda White. Am I Right? Greetings from Portugal.
Some of us definitely care. I've spent hours shedding this show! Absolutely phenomenal band. Every single member is completely over the top... wish we could hear bass a bit better, but no matter for me since I'm jamming along!
Super toll war diese Sendung damals und wenn ich diese Sängerin seh,der helle Wahnsinn, die hat wirklich Talent und seit ich ain't Nobody von ihr zum ersten Mal gehört hab, die ist einer meiner Lieblingssängerinnen
Chaka was hoarse of course and also by her eyes I can tell she's been drinking or drugging. Gotta lover her though. She has an extensive catalog and there's not a bad song on any of her albums. She's a true trailblazer and living legend. All hail the queen ❤
Beautiful spirit is in this woman of God who has kept her safe from all hurt ,harm and danger throughout the years. She is now clean and sober and still singing with that powerhouse voice from God. Many blessings Chaka upon you dear. It was such a pleasure to greet and talk with you those many years ago In Atlantic City NJ before your concert there. Rock On Lady Day,Rock On!
One of the most mindblowing things about this show (and a lot of Chaka shows from this era) is that she is obviously so high - _almost_ fading out from moment to moment. But she never loses it - exactly the opposite. Absolutely kills it! True professional and total soul. Really one of the most amazing artists ever.
Yes she's definitely a trooper. There's no way I could be high and perform. I would fall flat on my keister. Chaka is like family to me. She can do no wrong as for as I'm concerned.
If someone ever figures out how to time travel please send a crew back in time to this concert with 4k HD cameras and a 96K/24 bit multitrack mobile recording rig to capture this magic in all its glory. As it is the mix is very good - I just wish the bass was more prominent.
Functioning while HIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH as hell. Whoa guys. Chaka been high as hell for nearly her whole career but gotta love her. I pray she finds peace and lives long with her charming, hippy, spirit.
I love her low notes...ascending to climactic shouts...and all the while... a groove that makes your hips sway. I can't think of anyone who affects me that way now. Even when she speaks!
@@ianrossmusic I wonder if Michael would let me ? - Recorded most shows @At My Place on Cassette - Often Michael would take the cassette after a particularly intense performance of a first-time performance of a new song - often him the only one knowing how it would go !
Yes, Haslip on Bass, Michael Ruff Musical Director & keys,- Tony Patler on Keys + KeyBass, Snuffy Walden - guitar, Jeffrey Johnson, Guitar - Drums on Armand Grimaldi. (Y) Best Wishes Always (Y)
As a big Chaka khan fan!? This was such a great film to watch. ❤ I’ve been studying her music and routes.. I aspire to make music like her music and her band. Gosh thank you for this again ❤
Thank you Mr. W. Off topic: your name is the same as one of my favorite Irish Formula 1 Drivers (retired). John drove had much success driving for the McLaren Team. He has the distinction of winning the Long Beach Grand Prix and Detroit Grand Prix from dead last. I met him at the Las Vegas Grand Prix held in the Ceasars Palace temporary circuit and he signed a technical drawing of his 1982 McLaren F1 by Marc Polumbo, an artist I met earlier that year at the LBPG.
you really mean this i am Armand to haha oh what an animal on drums . AFTER all these years in my opinion this ie the best band ever she preformed with. Jimmy Haslips freaking out with the guitar.
Ver a esta magnifica y extraordinaria cantante, que siempre me ha gustado desde hace muchos años, me causa una gran emoción, es sumamente excitante verla en vivo y que musicos. Asombroso, la amo. Gracias por compartir este magnifico concierto.
I've been looking for this for ever - thanks for uploading!!! At the time this aired I recorded the audio from my TV on one side of a 120 min cassette tape, yes the ones with extra thin tape substrate. It was the most often playback tape of mine and I was glad the tape never teared up...
If You Like Snuffy Walden.. Check him out with his old band Stray Dog. He went on to do even more great stuff. Majorly theme music for TV and Film. Played with Stevie Wonder also.
"Watching footage from the I Feel for You tour, there’s a moment during “A Night in Tunisia” when Chaka screams, “Lisa Fischer” and you get a solo. Take me back to that moment. What is going through your body as the spotlight’s on you? It’s a beautiful feeling but it’s also an odd feeling because I will never be Chaka Khan. I don’t care how bad I wanted it. [laughs] It’s weird because at that point I’m not thinking “lead singer”, I’m thinking “support singer”, so I really didn’t know myself then. To me, it’s a part that you’re singing that just happens to be a background part by itself, but that Chaka wore out on the record because she’s such a badass."
The bruh on bass definitely had the STRONGER stuff sorry but damn rotfl...AND they r all jamming.Floored that Chaka took no breaks unless it's edited out.
There were strict rules for the audience during such recordings (and very little space for each of us and the cameras) - so no big moves possible. The images and lense angles may say otherwise - but this was a very small studio.
Saw the same lineup in Stockholm. Legend 🏆
Best chaka concert on the tube! Everything fits: sound, band, songs, performance... Simply wonderful!
You can’t beat Chaka backed up by Sandra St. Victor, Lisa Fischer, and the fabulous Brenda White-King.
Really good band, topped with one of the greatests singers in all time.
Awesome 👍
This band will forever do it for me🔥🔥

Bruce you're preaching to the choir. Chaka is one tough cookie.❤
For me the best female singer ever. I've seen her three times live and it was every time a great experience.
Please, a thumbs up for Germany, their amazing musicians, and their care for great music shows like this one.

The band is absurdly good. The stache on the keyboardist is a show unto itself
The band is top notch.
thank you very much!!! i was looking for that, thanks !!!

To me this easily one of the very best funk rock performances ever made. Too bad that it's not available as an official recording.
Poor Chaka she wants to sing her ass off but she was hoarse this whole touring cycle, but she still sounds awesome using her lower register a lot
It really doesn't get better than this performance!!! Awesome!!!

No auto tune for Chaka. Just pure vocal talent.
Yup, everywhere on the scale at the precisely right moment with seemingly no effort.
Not in 1985, no 😂
With a little help by Lisa Fischer ;)

I do really believe Chaka Khan is blessed and through God survived many bad obstacles in her life.🎤🎤🎤💗💖💕
one of the best versions ever of 'aint nobody' 30 years later a little girl with a tiny voice had a number one hit.
so sad!
One of the most mindblowing things about this show (and a lot of Chaka shows from this era) is that she is obviously so high - _almost_ fading out from moment to moment. Chaka mastered singing high. Glad she's through it and still with us today.
God had and still has more for her to do! Rock on Lady Day!
Chaka can "Handle It", You go girl👌👍✌
Would you expect any less in this era? Lol

Chaka’s music puts me in touch with the cosmic rhythms of our universe and I am healed- many thanks for the connection Chaka❤

high notes are ugly and lows nice
@@Dino-su2whI love it when she belts out those high notes.
My absolute favorite Keyboarder and artist Michael Ruff as Musical Director, absolutely incredible!!!
I remember the great shows at "At My Place". Great artist.
Exactly, what I think about!!
Damn is he good. So much energy and such great phrases. Where would you direct me to hear more of his playing?
