CoD 4 Modern Warfare is what made me buy it brand new back in 2020. Almost every stealth mission in the game had a suppressed USP 45 as the secondary weapon. Absolutely iconic firearm, great review!
I would think the reliability combined with its fun factor are well worth keeping it. One of those "buy it for life" sort of pickups where the price spread out over 25+ years makes it very acceptable.
I have over 10,000 rounds through my HK USP 40 cal without a malfunction. That's not a lot for some people, but it's the most fired gun I own (I have 40 guns). I think people buy HK for the quality and dependability.
Totally agree, I like he's review but even as he said people still buying these guns because of popularity, once they shoot them they are hooked for life . Usp is made for quality, reliability and modularity. These guys never sleep.
@@quinnjim Seriously. I have a Glock 34 with over 10k rounds through it. All OEM internals, nothing replaced yet, even guide rod. Only malfunctions were due to ammo. And I'm not making excuses. It was aluminum ammo. Same ammo where a round got pulled out of the casing and dumped powder in the gun. While it was still inside the mag. Literally the slide going forward caused the round to come out. Oh, and besides initial clean and lubing when I first got it, I didn't clean it for 2-3k rounds. Occasional touch up lube, but left all the crap in it.
I worked for a Commercial Nuclear Security Company that issued the USP 40 Full Size. I also was the Site Weapons Systems Armorer for a couple of years. I can attest to the durability of the USP. It’s ironic. A game developer based in a country where you cannot legally own handguns has single handedly popularised a German handgun, which only Americans can legally carry and own lol
Despite the price tag, I'm planning on getting a USP (probably 9mm) as my first gun from its legendary reputation on reliability. Oh... along with it being my favorite pistol across the CoD: Modern Warfare games. Nothing whispers "special ops" to me quieted than a USP with a flashlight and suppressor.
okay but the fact it has FRAME SAFETY that is also a decoker in such a nice spot that still holds up really well (I think theres an argument for it being on the best safeties ever designed) is incredible, all the others are almost all slide safeties which are lame, also I would argue 45 super would be an awesome self defense round when you see how it ballistics behave on impact, it dumps a shit load of energy REALLY quickly
It's worth mentioning that (I was told, could be wrong) the HK45 and HK45C are the "modern" replacement models of the USP45. The HK45C is supposedly more in line with the designer's intentions of replacing the USP. It might be an interesting comparison to do some time.
The HK45 & HK45CT are fine guns, though they are lower capacity than the HK USP 45 Fullsize, though the HK45C & HK45CT do conceal considerably easier. Are they replacements to the USP? Not really, but they are perfectly suited for work where a 12+1 ( or 17+1,20+1 or 24+1 dependent on mag choice) Duty Sized sidearm may be just a little bit too big. The HK 45CT is actually pretty darn easy to conceal in general quite good for plainclothes work and US SOCOM when performing "plainclothes" work overseas.. they never got rid of their Mk 23's or their C.O.T.S. HK USP 45'S. The US Navy made the HK45CT into an official line item as the Mk 24. So SEALS have a choice between 3 separate HK pistols ( among other options such as the SIG P226 and Glock 19) as sidearms or if need be primary weapons depending upon mission parameters. The Mk 23 does not get taken much these days but there are some people who swear by it, the USP 45 Fullsize was chosen by them as a C.O.T.S. ( Commercial Off The Shelf purchase) because some liked the capacity of the Mk 23 but wanted more of a secondary sidearm as opposed to a primary weapon system. and the Mk 24(HK 45 CT) dovetails nicely into it's role as a concealable covert hard-hitting sidearm. ALL have solid options to be suppressed.
I have a 1993 V1 HK USP 40, a 1997 V1 HK USP 45, and a HK 45 Compact Tactical. All of them are absolutely fantastic to shoot and reliable beyond anything else I own. I believe the most durable is the USP 40; if I'm not mistaken this gun was actually designed around the round to take the abuse.
USP and MK23 are the two best, durable and reliable pistols ever made. Hands down. I’ve got a couple of em and they are epic. If they added a 1913 rail and an RMR cut to them I’d buy another. They are a must for any gun aficionado. Unlike the P320, P365 or any of the variants.
Great review of the USP man. I picked up the USP 9 though for one simple reason. It works. No matter what it works. I'll bet my life on this over a glock of any caliber. At the time it was the most extensively tested pistol ever. And it keeps going. Proprietary rail kinda sucks. But all in all. Love the video.
@Rohann van Rensburg ya, but it still kinda sucks. I have a compact and one adapter was huge in every dimension. Another protruded past the end of the pistol. My light/laser is super small and would otherwise be flush with barrel. So ive got an adapter sticking out between my barrel and light. 10 years ago, there werent many options so ibground down the adapter. So did you enjoy it or no? Just curious about your thoughts. As for myself, I like polymer a lot but, it does depend on the build. If the slide is heavy enough than I tend to like those polymer guns better because the recoil is even less. As an example the Glock 19 (the only Glock that I sort of like) is a nice "almost" full sized pistol but because of the lightweight polymer/Plastic and the light weight of the the slide it causes it to be a little too snappy and kick too hard for my arthritic wrists.
Allen Love At the time, I had nothing else remotely like it to compare to. Yes, I liked it but I didn’t have the financial ability to own one then. Now, it’s far down the list of “gotta haves” for the safe. Too many cool things and not enough money.
I remember when Aimsurplus had a big batch of USPs with their special jet funnel magazine flare with an 18 round capacity and an old incandescent light. Wish I had jumped on one back then.
My 30 year old usp has been shot god knows how much. No idea. No one cared about round count in the 1990s and no one boasted on the internet with b.s. "my gun ate 509999999 rounds without a problem" That said...I had never had a problem with it until about 2018...turns out the two original mag springs were worn out and I was shocked to find I could still buy new mags for this old thing, and wolff springs to fix the old mags. Not a problem since. I have no freakin idea how shot up and clapped out my usp is, there is almost no finish left on the metal. This is one of those guns you just dont question. I guess if you are just trendy and cool you can pick apart what all sucks about it, but if youre old and dont give a shit about keeping up with the tactical Jones', id say owning a usp is a real treat. Its accurate, reliable, and works well. I had no idea they were still making these, I think ill pick up a new one just to sit looking all new and pretty next to my rusty reliable no finish having old ass usp.
*The USP looks like a well suited professional that have not invested on looks but rather on functions , while newer guns invested on looks but sacrifices some functions*

Hk is all I carry, I don’t trust myself enough to carry without a safety so I train constantly and I love the magazine release. Sig, sw, cz, beretta, 1911, And Glock are all excellent but my favorite is always hk.
I love my USP45 tactical, it's definitely my favorite pistol I own and would be the one I'd choose if I could only have one. Bomb proof and eats .45 super with ease. The recoil of the super seems much more manageable to me than depicted here, I don't find it that harsh at all. The increase in recoil from +P to super feels about the same as the increase from standard to +P, which this pistol tames well. The gun is very versatile, I love being able to seamlessly switch between light target loads, standard pressure, +P, and hot and heavy .45 super that out performs full house 10mm. I agree with you, I personally like the ergonomics of it but that is probably the most highly criticized part of the gun, often likened to a 2x4 that needs gorilla hands to grip. But it suits my medium hands just fine. If anyone wants to part with their over-hyped video game gun, please reach out to me I might consider taking it off your hands!
Have a 45 full size. Carried it to the river one time and ended up getting a bunch of sand in the action. Cleaned it out as best as I could but the action felt gritty. Left it like that for 3 years before I worked up the courage to completely disassemble it and clean it as best as possible without a hydro sonic cleaner. Never had an issue after all those years. Can confirm on reliability!
Ouch - I suppose I shouldn't admit to owning a few of these. The only thing that really sucks is the magazines - should be steel and maybe get 1-2 more rounds in. And you don't need a USP in 45 - that's what the Mark 23 is for :-)
Love the USP myself. Got a .45 Tactical that I’m waiting on the suppressor for, a grey USP45 with night sights as my carry, and an old used stainless .45 as my range.
I had a USP45 briefly about 15yrs ago. Other than being absolutely massive, and heavy enough fully loaded to double as a boat anchor, I loved everything about it. It was, hands down, the most comfortable-shooting centerfire handgun I've shot, before or after. I sold it to one of my clients, and as far as I know, he still has it. I wonder if he's interested in selling...
I recently got rid of my USP 45 Expert and I miss it, every time I touched it or went to train or competition it went bang and held amazing groups, lasting me 20,000 rounds. Gun run fast despite what people say.
@@Catgat37 I do uspsa and for the amount of rounds you shoot it gets pretty cost heavy with the .45 ACP. You can’t beat it when it comes to a defense tool but speed and capacity is needed in uspsa. I think the 9mm usp expert would be the best performer in competitive shooting.
"The VP70 was a stablegun hi-point hybrid" rofl. It is a bulky weird gun. Kinda neat in the original burst fire model, even if that only functions with the weird holster stock..
The USP was ahead of its time and forward thinking. It definitely could use an update, but it still slaps. Oh, and the drip is absolutely real. There is a reason Jack Bauer had one!
Just want you to know. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. And I’m the author of the “apocryphal shit” on the internet that you referenced. Just wanted to say. It’s 100% true. The armored I talked to is Jesse Teague at HK. The gun wasn’t a range rental it was a test mule for federal ammunition. I quoted what Jesse said. Also I was a newer gun owner at the time and a giddy HK fanboy which is quite apparent in my post. But nonetheless. Truth. Again, great video man 👍🏻 I laughed and agreed
The usp is a gun where i successfully convince myself that it's not THAT cool, but every couple of months i come back to thibk that it is, in fact, THAT cool
When I shoot my M&P40 I pretend it's a USP40, ngl. Also BIG shout to Way of the Gun. James Caan rocking their shit with a snub j frame is part of what started my love affair with revolvers, and the beautiful use of shotguns is why I'm a scatterguy til I die.
You should do more gun reviews, Hop. They're a lot more accessible than stuff like optics or night vision, and while a lot of other people have reviewed these guns before you, essentially none of those reviews are any good.
Even though Glock and S&W had pistols on the market chambered in .40 cal, these were conversions from existing pistols in 9mm, etc. I'm pretty sure the USP was the first .40 cal pistol designed from the ground up for the cartridge.
I have a usp 45 and p30. Both are great.. I've put a pretty steady diet of 45 super threw my stock usp and never had a problem. I really enjoy them both.
I ran a H&K .40 cal USP with Jet Funnel upgrades (16 round capacity) as my main squeeze for almost a decade before moving to the P30L 9mm. The USP is still the most accurate handgun I've ever owned.
I own 2 USP 45s They are my EDC sidearms. I have taken 2 handgun classes with them. Each class expended in excess of 1000 rds. I did not experience any malfunctions and the accuracy was more than adequate for the tasks. One of which was hitting a 10" steel plate starting at 20 meters and extending to 120 meters. I made it to 80 meters. Only the instructor made it further. (Man that guy can shoot a pistol!) I look at my guns far more often than I get to shoot them. So aesthetics are as important as function. My USP 45s please my eye as well as satisfying the need for which they were purchased.
I would like to add, I have one of these in 9mm, and it's magazines are metal 15 rounders. So it looks like metal mags were available in both calibers.
"What was Valve smoking?" Epic rock obviously. Every gun in Half life 2 is very iconic, and the strange look of the USP match pretty much cements it as "the half life 2 pistol".
I first saw this pistol in Antoine Fuqua's directorial debut: The Replacement Killers. John Lee (portrayed by Hong Kong action star Chow Yun Fat) takes it off a thug and uses it in spectacular fashion alongside Meg Coburn (Mira Sorvino) and her Browning Hi-Power. I have recently purchased a V1 USP at my local shop. Look forward to trying this out.
I bought a P30L and I didn’t know much about hks at the time but I was able to turn it into a safety and decocker model I like carrying cocked and locked if it’s available to me. Now I have a P7 and an HK MK23 looking for one of the KAC cans for it. Think it would be cool but my aac Tirant 45 and rugged 45 sound great on it. First video of yours I’ve watched and it’s just facts and no bullshit so you’ve earned a subscriber my friend
The durability of the usp is second to none . The mag capacity is due to their design of not pushing the mag to max capacity rather max length of service by designing the mag to last longer rather than holding a few more rounds . No other pistol is stronger , no other pistol can shoot a high round count and last as long as usp . It doesn’t have my favorite trigger or handling but for what it was designed it does best .
I didn’t think this was a real gun until today because I only knew about it from a game with lots of fake guns. The game has the .45 version and treats it like a one shot kill magnum with tons of recoil.
Back in its proper era, the USP was far and away the best choice for a reliable gun that ate whatever ammo you fed it, had holster options that weren't soft nylon bullshit, came in something besides 9mm, and held more than 10 rounds. HK also cut great contract rates for LE/Mil and a huge selling point there was that the guns would run without needing replacement parts through a 20k round lifecycle. Departments could hand those out to new hires and even people shooting all the time would be getting scheduled new guns before the old ones were dead.
Dammit Hop, you raise some really valid points, though they have done nothing to dissuade my irrational love for the USP. In fact, after watching this, I want to go out and buy another one.
Never actually looked at the screen during the intro of this video last time that I watched it, so am only now noticing that Hop looks EXTREMELY German at @0:09. This adds a whole new flavor to the video lol

But it suits my medium hands just fine. If anyone wants to part with their over-hyped video game gun, please reach out to me I might consider taking it off your hands!
Love it. Just picked up a 94 HK USP V1 9mm with match trigger installed with 4 mags. It's a beast.
Got rid of mr glock for this gun and I’m never looking back.
Jack Bauer going postal with USPs was the highlight of early 2000s Television.
This made me miss my USP .45, I need to get one again. I love my P2000 9mm and carry it primarily.
I can’t believe Hop didn’t mention Jack Bauer’s love affair with the USP. I love my .45 Expert.
My grandpa has a hk usp made in the year 2000. Only 20 rounds have been through it, he bought it in 2001. 😊
coming back to this 3 years later, hop sounds like a child
I recently got rid of my USP 45 Expert and I miss it, every time I touched it or went to train or competition it went bang and held amazing groups, lasting me 20,000 rounds. Gun run fast despite what people say.
Why you get rid of it?
@@Catgat37 I do uspsa and for the amount of rounds you shoot it gets pretty cost heavy with the .45 ACP. You can’t beat it when it comes to a defense tool but speed and capacity is needed in uspsa. I think the 9mm usp expert would be the best performer in competitive shooting.
@@gun.. yeah. That makes sense. I have 3 USP 45s (one elite) and a Mark 23. I definitely wouldn't want to eat the cost running competition.
Seeing this and current hop gave me whiplash
Don't give a crap about practicality. Bought one because its just really freakin' cool.
baby Hop is adorable
HK Fanboys at the range: VP9s, P30s, HK416
HK Guys at the range: USP, More different USP, extra Rare USP, P2000SK, that one dude with the P7
Got damn I wish I had a p7 though.
@@fiskersproductions my gatdamn P2000SK got stolen, gonna have to replace it with a P7
@@IRUKANJI Ay, sad to hear -from a fellow P2000 owner
@@fiskersproductions if the idiot who has it ever lets it get sold, it's gonna show up fast, cops are on the case.
I think the HK45 is considered the update of the USP.
Yeah but it was a bit of a flop. It has lower capacity.@@sogerc1
They grow up so fast
This takes “ A Weapon to surpass Metal Gear “ to a whole new level
Not even kidding
Just want you to know. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. And I’m the author of the “apocryphal shit” on the internet that you referenced. Just wanted to say. It’s 100% true. The armored I talked to is Jesse Teague at HK. The gun wasn’t a range rental it was a test mule for federal ammunition. I quoted what Jesse said. Also I was a newer gun owner at the time and a giddy HK fanboy which is quite apparent in my post. But nonetheless. Truth. Again, great video man 👍🏻 I laughed and agreed
Ameliorate and patrician. Clearly the smartest gun reviewer on UA-cam. Keep it up and remain thoughtful.
"Apocryphal," "Byzantine"👍
The usp is a gun where i successfully convince myself that it's not THAT cool, but every couple of months i come back to thibk that it is, in fact, THAT cool
Best HK USP review on UA-cam. Well done. I just got a USP 9..... Thanks for the video.
This video has convinced me that my first impressions were correct and the USP 45 is the one that makes the moat sense to buy.
I picked up a USP .40 on the cheap from my lgs. I'm not a .40 guy by any means, but... I just love that pistol
RIP Hop's larynx from all those Marlboros.
Best pistol I’ve ever owned
I absolutely love my P30L
When I shoot my M&P40 I pretend it's a USP40, ngl. Also BIG shout to Way of the Gun. James Caan rocking their shit with a snub j frame is part of what started my love affair with revolvers, and the beautiful use of shotguns is why I'm a scatterguy til I die.
Don’t forget Leon Kennedy from RE4 . He had a USP 9mm
It was equal parts Sigma as USP.
You should do more gun reviews, Hop. They're a lot more accessible than stuff like optics or night vision, and while a lot of other people have reviewed these guns before you, essentially none of those reviews are any good.
I am left handed and can confirm without a doctor's note that I am retarded
Even though Glock and S&W had pistols on the market chambered in .40 cal, these were conversions from existing pistols in 9mm, etc. I'm pretty sure the USP was the first .40 cal pistol designed from the ground up for the cartridge.
Correct sir.
I have a usp 45 and p30. Both are great.. I've put a pretty steady diet of 45 super threw my stock usp and never had a problem. I really enjoy them both.
Still fun coming back to this years later
I ran a H&K .40 cal USP with Jet Funnel upgrades (16 round capacity) as my main squeeze for almost a decade before moving to the P30L 9mm. The USP is still the most accurate handgun I've ever owned.
The way of the gun is such a great movie.
(Man that guy can shoot a pistol!)
I look at my guns far more often than I get to shoot them. So aesthetics are as important as function. My USP 45s please my eye as well as satisfying the need for which they were purchased.
I would like to add, I have one of these in 9mm, and it's magazines are metal 15 rounders. So it looks like metal mags were available in both calibers.
That Age of Empires 2 music
I appreciate it
The HK works well and is amazingly reliable. No need to change what works great.
"What was Valve smoking?" Epic rock obviously. Every gun in Half life 2 is very iconic, and the strange look of the USP match pretty much cements it as "the half life 2 pistol".
This is my fav Hop video I watch it every week.
Srsly the funniest HK review ever.
I love the USP due to MGS but I got an FNX for 500 off MSRP brand new and it took over my love for big ass 45 cal pistols
Holy baby hop wtf
Back in its proper era, the USP was far and away the best choice for a reliable gun that ate whatever ammo you fed it, had holster options that weren't soft nylon bullshit, came in something besides 9mm, and held more than 10 rounds.
HK also cut great contract rates for LE/Mil and a huge selling point there was that the guns would run without needing replacement parts through a 20k round lifecycle. Departments could hand those out to new hires and even people shooting all the time would be getting scheduled new guns before the old ones were dead.
Sig P229 in .40 s&w... shoots amazing....
Dammit Hop, you raise some really valid points, though they have done nothing to dissuade my irrational love for the USP. In fact, after watching this, I want to go out and buy another one.
Mandatory "A weapon to surpass Metal Gear" comment.
Never actually looked at the screen during the intro of this video last time that I watched it, so am only now noticing that Hop looks EXTREMELY German at @0:09. This adds a whole new flavor to the video lol
Hop left us with anime, it seems as though he has finally abandoned hope.
USP 45 tactical with RMR cut and 460 Rowland conversion is a good gun against bears. change my mind.
Rowland no longer does 460 conversions on the USP as far as I am aware.
Enhanced Teutonic Moon Steel... Ha... Pretty much.
The Usp is still being sold because it’s a great gun. It’s the most reliable handgun ever made.
