  • How to catch Chinook or King Salmon Trolling Lures and rolling herring off the coast of Ucluelet on the Pacific Ocean in the province in British Columbia.
This is an adventure that I was able to take to Vancouver Island last summer with my wife and kids. My mom and dad came along as well to visit and take my dad out for some fishing action. It all started the first day we hit the dock when a fishing guide told us the fishing right out from the lighthouse was on fire.
We reproduced what he had told us and the action was great. Putting in time with small spoons and needlefish hootchies was very productive. When the lure bite slowed down we had great results using small herring in anchovy holders.
In this video I explain how to fish the lures and roll herring in an anchovy holder to attract large salmon to strike your gear.
We also head out from the coastline to Big Bank and Rats Nose for some bottom fishing. The wind came up a bit which made it harder for us to bottom fish without an anchor. We were able to catch a few flounder and a Black Cod as well. These fish are also called Sablefish really do taste amazing. We devoured the buttery fish at home freshly baked. It truly is a wonderful fish to eat.
Salmon fishing was so good that we also took some of our fish into the fish processor, "Ukee Seafood and Fish Pak", who did an amazing job on our fish. Since we went for a longer period of time this year we were worried that we might have the fish on ice for too long fresh prior to processing everything at home. They helped us pack our first three days of fish and it was all frozen and packed in a cooler for us to take home on our last day. Very affordable for keeping your fish high quality and packed professionally.
In this video we also included our last day on the water. Again we caught several beautiful Chinook with the family. It was fascinating and the best we have done on Chinook on the ocean. We didn't catch many coho or other species of fish, but I think we came home only one or two fish short of a total limit. Really stellar fishing.
I hope you enjoy this longer form of video. Feel free to jump a round to the action shots if you want or just enjoy the whole experience with us. This is our family in every day fishing life!

Boss man good to have you back with the fam. What epic times on the chinook grounds. I have been using anchovies specifically the past couple seasons from Washington to Alaska and I can say without a doubt they catch bigger chinook. Good to see you fishing with your patient father
    Great memories for a lifetime

Haha... yeah my poor dad. Drag him along and shout orders at him all day. Now that I'm a dad I get what I deserve from the kids as karma. Yeah that is what I find as well... anchovies or herring really do get those bigger fish.

@GCRockymtns OK cool good to hear. They don't get many views so I never know if people like them. I have some cool underwater salmon trolling stuff too. So I'll have to edit it. You just have to keep commenting and requesting and I'll deliver. Four salmon river fishing videos are coming out over next two weeks.

I think you're one of the most faithful viewers. Glad you like the videos. The Black Cod, also called Sablefish... was EXCELLENT. We filleted it and ate the whole thing fresh. We just baked it with salt and pepper. No butter or oil at all. The fish is so moist an buttery. The flavor is mild. It seriously tastes like you are eating butter in my opinion. My parents didn't really like it but my family and brother loved it!

      @TheFishingDoctorsAdventures thanks.
      I have about 12 channels I follow.
and I like what you post.
when I cool walleye, I cook it with flour and frys seasoning salt.
put that unto a bag, and shack the fish.
      no egg, no binder.
      light coating.
      I fry in butter.
people say it tastes like butter, which the kids and I love, lol

@@JustinHallowesOutdoors haha well if you fry in butter it probably does... haha. But this fish tastes like butter with NO butter. Walleye is more firm than the Black Cod.

Ucluelet is amazing! Any recommendations for a local charter/guide?

I usually just go out with my family privately, so I don't have any experience with guides in the area. There are many options though. I don't know any well enough to make solid recommendations. Hope you find a good one.
