    Basically this is a 14 minute flex of that slider unit and honestly, I don't blame you. That's some serious tech.

    This is how you do a sponsored video; It's clearly showcasing Edelkrone's products, but is also really informative if you're not interested in the actual products. Props to you!

    This was very informative, thank you Gerald! I remember my first slider, which was not a slider, actually. It was a rug that I used to slide my camera on a table. With that rug, I ended up with some best shots I've ever made.
    Then my girlfriend had a knee surgery and her hospital lent us a motorised knee training device, Kinetec - I think, so I went ahead and used that as my slider for a couple of months. It is very important to use motion with taste - and if you have a clear vision + ok taste, some of the most epic moves are achievable even with a rug.
    One main problem with motion control systems is noise. Unfortunately most of them are very loud and make it impossible to work with classical music live recordings, which I did a lot. But your video has re-motivated me to either find and buy one or to build it myself.
    Thanks! 🙏🏼

    Nice overview of moves. I like the clarification on the TRUCK. I believe that is it probable that this term derived from the the 'olden days' of cinematography when an actual truck, or a 'hand truck' was used to move the camera operator and camera along a rail to obtain this move? This is a simple idea, but help us remember what this term really means. As always ... love your videos. Helpful, concise as teaching should be ... with that little touch of cynical humor. Great job! For those who complain about Edelkrone's pricing, I sympathize. Yup, their gear is pricey - typical for serious video hardware - however you are paying for great R&D and products that work as they should, no compromises. Shooters should consider that, and Edelkrone might consider a drop in their retail. However, can't argue with the quality and well thought out gear. When you buy into their equipment line you are supporting this work ... and it is smart design! CIAO (Dorian)

    Excellent Job. Nice to see someone who actually knows terms like truck. :)

  • @artistjoh
    @artistjoh 3 роки тому

    Some things that I would add to this is that it is good to mix up motorized movements with hand movements on sliders and with skates. Hand movements are often improved by shooting at a higher frame rate and making a faster movement (human hands are not well suited to slow movements) and then slowing the footage down in post to give the illusion of slow trucks and skates. As to a Dutch Angle, it helps to use a 3-way pan-tilt head because it is easier to limit the tilt to just the one axis than it is with a ball head. Skates are great because it is easy to jury rig a couple of tracks that can give way longer dolly’s and trucking movements than sliders allow.
    Technically there is only a few possible camera movements, but the art of being creative with them means virtually limitless possibilities. And when a camera move works out even better than I was hoping, it is such a satisfying feeling.
    And to those with a budget that doesn’t allow you to go motorised yet, and thinking the expensive gear will improve your work - as a general rule it won’t. Hand sliding and a skate can do 90% of what the expensive gear can do, and it takes years of getting creative with hand driven gear before there is any need for the extra 10% that the motorized gear can give. Good camera movements are more about being imaginative than having expensive gear.
