I love this part. He's not-so-subtly calling out Galar for essentially abandoning Spikemuth just because they don't dynamax.

Alex is an absolute genius.
I can see another side of it. For all the benefits of Dynamax, it forces the combatants to fight a specific way, with all like-Typed moves having the same effect on the target, user or battlefield. Piers is a Dark-Type specialist, so his specialty is... _not_ doing that.

Honestly one of my favorite Gym Leaders from Sword and Shield. I just love how naturally they build up his “no dynamax” rule, since Spikemuth is a lower end city in galar, and doesn’t have a gym for dynamaxing to take place, let alone the power to run an entire stadium. It’s such a refreshing change of pace, and a great way to show off the very first Dark Type Gym Leader
He even nods to this in the lyrics as a small poke at it

The pretty “lights” of the gmax/dmax moves/aura.
Now this could be a nod to just the whole “darkness” thing but still.

@@acedelta12 one I forgot is the “neon fades till only dark remains” part, which could be a reference to the neon-like coloring of dmax/gmax “fading” as in it not being in spikemuth, and “till only dark remains” could be about only the dark type Pokémon and trainers “remaining” in spikemuth. Though this one is a bit sir fetched it could be a nod to it.
What about Nanu from Sun/Moon? I know he doesn't have a full-fledged gym, but he is technically the Alolan dark-type gym leader, right?
@@myoung3411 he is considered a kahuna, if he was a trial leader it would be different but a kahuna is more of an island boss than anything, he was supposedly supposed to be an elite four member instead of acerola but he “turned down the offer”
So I would say no. I don’t think he counts.
I like how Piers changes as the song progresses. He initially starts it off as dour and defeating as we typically see him before the battle, but surely gets more and more passionate and something resembling hopeful as the song goes on. Attention should be paid to how he says "So disappoint me" the first and second time.
First time: “Oh gods, not this again” attitude

Took them 6 generations to give us a dark type gym after the type's implementation and I honestly like the punk rock theme of Piers.

But, me being me, I classify anyone filling the general role of the gym leaders as being a gym leader. Sorry for my long bout of rambling, I just... I never shut up-

I love that you snuck in Piers' little build ups for his mons. He mentions Scrafty's Intimidate, Skuntank's Toxic, Malamar's Contrary, Obstagoon's Sucker Punch, it's just so neat seeing such attention to detail.
Actually sucker punch also refers to skuntank while the high roar line refers to obstagoon (I also thought sucker punch was in relation to obstagoon until I check Pier’s quotes)

Gave up his position as a gym leader for his sister and also gave her(marnie) first pokemon
Raihan puts too much reliance in his g/dmax forms. I lean a lot more in Piers' route here. Put a gimmick in a battle and suddenly nobody can battle without it.
I'll probably end up using it almost religiously once I get Sword, but you get my point. Raihan can't just g/dmax his way through every battle. He should try battling Piers in Spikemuth, where g/dmaxing is not allowed.
@@acedelta12 Without the extra boost in hp and damage, Piers would flatten him. Also reminder that it's a 5v6 match where Raihen has 6 pokemon and he still nearly won. No, Piers can beat Raihen if they were playing by his rules

I remember the moment in my run of sword that confirmed my love of Piers. When he threw out his Skuntank and announced "Everyone's gonna stink, but who cares! Go, Skuntank! Use your Sucker Punch and Toxic!" (Context: I read his trainer card so I knew he explained his tactic) So I thought I was ready, but he changed the order of the moves. I got flexed on so hard and I couldn't even feel angry about. Ironically, the first dark gym leader is the shining light this game needed.

Funny thing about Piers is although he uses Dark pokemon he sticks by his convictions (to not use Gigantamax) and really cares for his sister. Hes actually probably the best gym leader in Sword and Shield to be honest.

@@BJGvideos Dark type is evil type in the original Japanese and most dark pokemon/moves are all about trickery and fighting dirty so the contradiction is that he is such a good guy despite using the type that is all about being mean.
@@marcopierini6405 Well yeah but it's still not a contradiction for a dark type user to be so caring. Maybe for him to be the leader of a criminal gang and be so caring, but Yell is like the least evil of all the teams.
Plus other than hop, he's the only other person to care enough to go from town to town to make sure everything across the country is alright. I'm not saying the other gym leaders didn't care, except bede, but none of them tried to come help
It’s not really a villain team and more like a group of extremely loyal fans that willing to cheer their bosses sister on… while causing some trouble at times
One of my favourite gym leaders in the series. You can tell he's only being a gym leader because he has to and he knows that he's kinda a forgotten gym leader, as Spikemuth is a pretty forgotten about town and you can't even Dynamax there. But starts a small fanbase as the underdog and he starts incorporating his shows into his battles to please his small fanbase even more and hopes that it'll put Spikemuth on the map. He knows that his sister will grow up to be a better trainer than him and actually be remembered. And she goes out on her journey feeling all self consious and stuff. So to push her, he gets his fans to start cheering for her. Also I do like that the 1st Dark type gym in the series isn't shown at the beginning and is a bit of a surprise. In my opinion Piers is Giovanni done right. Though I still do hate Team Yell. Piers is like a gold bar in a dump

The champions tourney is singles only and we all know Raihan is much more well trained in the doubles format with his sanstorm team instead of....whatever he was in the league. All I'm saying is if it's singles, Peirs would almost certainly win but for doubles, I see it going either way.

This is amazing! You can feel Pier's resolve through the song and lyrics. He doesn't want to conform to society's expectations and just wants to keep his town alive and kicking. He doesn't do things the normal way, but gives it his all no matter what.
I find it interesting that he goes contrary to how most rockers carry themselves and just has low self esteem. He’s this man with a lot of charisma and determination but zero confidence.
We need more people like Piers in this world. Giving it their all even if what they do isn't normal.

I'd like to say that I love the inspiration behind Spikemuth. Galar is based on the UK, which is pretty bad when it comes to classes and the working class areas often get ignored or overlooked by the government, just like how the league doesn't really take Piers' gym that seriously.
I love how the moves and abilities of his Pokémon are incorporated into the sing.

I honestly thought it was kind of silly that the cutscene introducing Piers shows him singing, but with no actual words. I almost get the feeling that they originally intended to write a lyrical theme for Piers and ran out of time or money or something.

Dual uploads of Juno and MoTi within an hour of each other is something I could DEFINITELY get used to. They’re both incredible at lyrical adaptations, and the quality is amazing, same goes for those that sing in them like QueenCreeps in Marnie’s theme.

Why
Agistya Ramdhani well one of the reasons he didn’t like to dynamax is one, the gym that he has, well, isn’t really a gym. It’s also not large enough to dynamax any Pokémon. If I remember correctly there is another reason although I cannot remember it

The hallmark of the Dark Type is combative trickery, moves that prevent opponents' strategies (Taunt, Throat Chop, Thief), deal damage in line with them (Sucker Punch, Payback), or are otherwise unconventional (Parting Shot, Fling, Topsy-Turvy). That trickery goes away when the Dark-Type Pokemon goes Dynamax, when every Dark-Type move either becomes "Max Darkness" or "Max Guard", each with a fixed effect. So Piers just goes without.

Piers is my favorite character not only becase he has an amazing theme song, but he cares so much about his little sister.
This is awesome! The lyrics are great (like the move references and how they fit his character) and your singing was phenomenal (I like the accent for Piers)! Also the parts with the mic effect were a nice touch.

I love how at 0:52 the scene just zooms out onto the “69” emblazoned forever onto the character’s uniform.

I like how when introducing the 1sr dark type gym leader they gave us one that is like a regular gym leader while still giving us a gym leader who’s like all the rest in galar(Marnie because she gigantamaxes like all the others)
I was waiting for this for a long time! It felt always strange that piers didn't had a voice while singing! I know pokemon never had voice acting but, it always felt off seing him perform and hearing nothing.

This is pretty good. I like all the little touches, like the reference to the Darkest Day, or references to his own Pokémon and their moves / abilities. I hope this gets a 1 Hour Version at some point. Though then again, Piers doesn’t do encores, so...
