Huh, its kinda ironic. Toriyama hated how he had to go to the drawing board several times for the androids and Toriyama had Toyotaro redesign the heaters 3 times
He became that which he swore to destroy
@@hoohoo431 tbf it's still HIS vision, as it's always been
It's actually not that uncommon of a training/apprenticeship idea. You try to introduce your student to the same kinds of pressures that you had to try and teach them the same kinds of lessons you learned, but with a more guided/focused experience so that they don't have to struggle or suffer as much but still get the point behind it. By not compromising on quality and forcing Toyotaro to work it out on his own, he's making sure that it's entirely *his* effort that succeeds and setting a bar for standard/quality that he would expect his student to have. Also some humility by teaching him how to fail, gently, and how to overcome that failure without relying on other people (ideally).
A lot of Dragon Ball owes it's success to some of the struggles Toriyama had with his own editors, after all. If Toyotaro's going to handle the legacy, I don't blame the man for making sure he understands the journey while he's got the time to check on him. Wax on, wax off.
@liallen9380 I'm aware but it's still kinda funny coming from Toriyama of all people considering what he went through lol
@@SetoShadowVT Toriyama in 1984: My vision
Toriyama in 2024: My vision
🗿🗿🗿
Toriyama's subtle genius does exist especially looking at the layout of panels for reading (the flow/order of the panels), so his extension to backgrounds and colours fits really nicely into this idea as well.
I admire Toriyama for trying enforce Toyotaro to do better with his designs. Very much a master/pupil relationship! Also I love these videos of yours that educate us about the behind the scenes material. Can't wait to see what Toyo is cooking
This is extraordinarily consistent with lots of Mangaka. I remember the naruto community going crazy because Kishimoto said "Idk how to have Madara lose" then used that to explain why he had Kaguya come in as if that was not always his plan.
This is actually a myth, he never said that, what he said is that Edo Madara was "invincible", which is the just the basic villain hype mangakas give.
So it was always planned for Kaguya to hijack the ending? If that's the case that makes it even worse, it's easier to forgive spontaneity just not working out lol
@@blues4509 Unknown, we know that at minimum during 5 kage summit the Hagoromo and sons stuff was planned, but it's very difficult to say Kaguya specifically, as there is foreshadowing with Zetsu and the Kaguya clan with Kimimaro, but nothing concrete like with Hagoromo and his sons.
@@charlotedavid3531nah, Kaguya was a last second decision. He got lucky with the Kimimaru connection
Dont think it was always the plan, but thinking the Mangaka wouldnt be able to find a Way of making him loose is moronoc. Sai defeated Deidara, someone who was a straight upgrade from everything Sai could do.
We do see how blue evolution came to be in the manga. It’s the form Vegeta got when he raged out during the ToP
yeah i'm surprised he forgot considering... it actually happened in comparison to blue kaio-ken, which people still can't decide on whether or not it did
@dankerbell yeah exactly, it was directly compared to kaioken, in that it multiplied Vegeta's power without it being actual kaioken, and the aesthetic of Vegeta's appearance changed along with his power boost, which if you think about it is exactly the same in the anime; he just powered up as needed and got darker blue hair, a beefier build, and irises 0_o. They NV called it Blue evolution in the anime just like the Manga didn't call it anything, it was just an ascended form of blue until a game gave it a name, so they are virtually the same regardless of what you want to call it I guess 🤷♂️
Blue Evolved
More insight is always welcomed right masako? Helps expands the horizons and deepens the appreciation for the story!
So Toriyama pulled a Vegeta: Find the answer yourself!
I really do want to see Granolah again. I like Toyotaro's highschool designs a lot too, they feel distinctive. His designs work for me.
I'm pretty lukewarm on the highschool life part of the story though.
I hope his lifespan is increased some how.
@@Amplifymagickid named dragon balls:
I feel like this is one of Toriyama's big mistakes on having another illustrator do most of his work on which not every thing is technically being written by Toriyama but at the same time debunking the purpose of certain events in Dragon Ball, but he is a good artist.
Toyotaro has had plenty of banger panels lately.
Toyotaro wrote Morro and Granolah
Like with any intellectual property created by a sole author, not everything is going to be perfectly translated one-to-one. We've seen this with how Tori's manga editors, Toei, Shueisha, and others move things around or force changes to the overall story that weren't originally intended. That's just how the industry is, most stories go through a slew of people before they're finalized.
@@MasakoX But unfortunately, his panelling and page composition haven't improved one iota in 10 years.
@@XanderVJThe 100% have.
This sounds like something interesting to watch during my lunch break.
I feel that Toryiyama wants to keep the same magic that OG DB had, hence DB Daima.
Wouldn’t blame him since Og Dragon Ball is just wonderful to read, watch and the music just phenomenal
It’s just to make time for the Manga to push past what has been covered. Currently, only Moro and Granolahs arc are the only things not covered in the manga… after 8 years… I’m thinking we’re getting the anime comeback either in 2027 or a revival for it then after a 10 year anniversary since the end of Super.

Love these videos masako! Thanks 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Wow this was all new to me! Really enjoyed learning these new bits. Would love it if you did more of these videos in the future!
I think he has been preparing Toyo for his departure, so he can fluorish without his input all of the time, maybe final lessons from his master. R.I.P. Toriyama
there's only so many body parts you can blow off until it looks all the same you know.
yeah but there are other references besides that, in my opinion there's nothing wrong with visual referencing like that anyway, i think it's kinda neat. like with goku gut-punching jiren the same way he did piccolo jr in the tournament
I'd love to see those rejected designs for the heaters.
Something that really gets under my skin is that we label "lazy" people who work to the point of severe sleep deprivation at best, and health decline at worst.
I understand that story or art elements may haven't been propely thought out, but we should stop attributing that to laziness.
Yeah. That's what bothers me too. Like if you think you can do better, make your own.
@@hoohoo431 that is a tired ass counterargument to try and shutdown any criticism. Art is subjective and when you put out anything for the purpose of monetary gain, then you are absolutely subject to criticism because you are relying on not only opinions of consumers you are also asking for their money.
If consumers say that his work is lazy, that's a fair criticism. The poor working conditions that japanese writers and artists are under doesn't change that subpar or unsatisfying content is going to be criticized. You can acknowledge both things to be true. Toriyama could have been worked to the bone, and he could have made lazy decisions for his work.
Japan's Lazy is America's Hardest Possibly Working Man at the Job. They are no joke in terms of how many hours they will put to the job. And still consider themselves as not doing all they can
After this video, I will pay more attention of those interviews!
Love seeing the vids Masako! ❤
Toriyama has simply just mastered "work smarter not harder"
thank you!
Are the interviews organized in any way or so I have to scroll through years of announcements? Are they subtitled ?
@7:08 You do know that we actually did see Vegeta's transformation into blue evolution in the manga, right. It happened in chapter 40 of the manga when Vegeta was frustrated after Goku surpassed him again. He's been using blue evolution ever since.
We literally see Vegeta use SSB Evo in the ToP chapter 40. With the flame aura and all
I do not get what theory you are talking about, but it is interesting learn of the design process of Torotaro's original characters and transformations. I believe rewatch the video later and analyze the parts I missed to better understand everything. With all that being said, thank you for the information.
I think its less of Toyotaro trying to Bamboozle and more of the style being ingrained in him already. Causing those coincidences, well, in theory.
i still belive frieza's race are mushrooms... even if frieza changes different colors :P
Purple hair trunks made so much more sense
Oh boy.
Dragon ball forever, i need more stuff, i need to know the future of dragon ball.
I still dont think a wish was ever made concerning goku during that fight, Monitio said after toronbo was dispelled that he almost made a mistake and the dragon balls shouldnt be used selfishly
Completely unrelated but when are we ever gonna get to see vegeta's mom give him a backstory movie or something telling us a bit more about the life of the saiyans under the rule of frieza and king cold on planet vegeta and some mini lore bits with different characters. Or just tell us about the other ssj god or whatever and the other saiyans that helped him come about.
Huh, well, this was interesting, i wonder what this is supposed to mean for the future?
Also, the Yamcha Reincarnation Story wasn’t a Fan-Made thing?
Is that the guy from Digimon Cybersleuth?
I think a manga/anime that follows Trunks would be cool.
Imagine he and Mai leave the gang to search for another timeline but are stopped shortly after by the Supreme Kai of Time this kicking off the Xenoverse Saga.
7:30 didn't vegeta use evolution against moro??

WHERE IS REVELATION F
Are you planning to talk about the Funimation streaming service shutting down in your next video?
So Toriyama made Super Saiyan for the Composition
4:55 Wait, why does Bardock not have a tail?

Victory Uchida from Digimon Cybersluethj?
Yes, it's the same guy. He is an editor for Shueisha (specifically for V Jump), which was a supporting company for the game, and he's kind of a hype man for V Jump, the magazine Digimon primarily was released in, as well as Toyotaro's editor.
Hey MasakoX I know its rude on all that had happened in the end but I do really really miss Dragonball R&R is there any way in just getting a download on that season? I am not asking you to post it again just for it to be removed again but something. Because that series really reminded me that I was the older brother in my family and that I should respect and honor that so if you could please please. If you really cant do anything I completely understand because you were one of the first UA-camrs I was introduced to and I loved the way you did Raditz thank you again.
I didn't even know Dragon Ball R&R was removed......i just research and he just private them for now due to some complication. I'm sure it will be put back on eventually.
@@GodoMatrix It has been a while and the Dragonball franchise is forever so I am alittle worried
Masako I think you forgot that the manga still had Vegeta using SSB Evolved in the ToP
Invocando al general Tablos
I wouldn't ever say Toriyama is a lazy author, Practical would be more adequate. That and he loves to derail into dumb jokes, but hey, that's what we're here for, I guess.
His designs were always simple if you think about it
His ssj3 was the worst form to keep drawing and Cell
Ssj4 aint his and we see how God forms and even later ones are quite simple too.
No exageration nor anything
I dont recall if he did Cooler final form or any of the movie villains for whatevers worth
Very practical. Whatever was a pain in the ass to draw 300 times a day gets simplified. Cell 1 vs Perfect Cell is probably the most glaring version of it.
Day 1 of asking for what if gohan turned on piccolo!
jiren said in the manga "you were stronger than goku" removing the UI part, who happened after vegeta vs jiren in the manga right? i tought it was implied that was blue evolution, stronger than 100% blue
Vegeta got Blue Evolution up to the level of UI Sign against Moro so probably even in the ToP, it was stronger.
It was. I mean vegeta also mastered blue, than Actived blue Evolution. In manga it is still refered as vegeta SSB.
We literally see blue evolved vegeta appear in the top manga we know how it happened
Is dragon ball R&R canceled?
TY masako; thanks to you im a Z fighter now
The Z fighter in questiom: oolong
I did frequently question who was Toriyama comparing himself to when he called himself lazy. Writing another weekly series AND making characters designs for movies and video games doesn’t come across as lazy to me.
I think he was comparing himself with other mangaka at the time and the fact that not only did he just come up with what to do next on the spot when asked by his editor rather than planning it meticulously, but also that he'd basically screw around for like 5 days out of the week before buckling down and rushing to draw the next chapter, spending most of the remaining time drawing.
Honestly, Toriyama was a procrastinator regarding his work, but he wasn't lazy, as he always kept himself busy. I think it was just that he understood his drawing and storytelling abilities well so he knew what was necessary to get the job done.
@@seandobbins2231 A successful lazy man knows exactly how much effort and time he needs to get his work done properly. That's how I always took his lazy comments.
It's probably just a little persona of his. Realistically no one who does that type of work can be considered lazy.
Many of the examples of Toriyama "forgetting" might have been a result of him always working on the next thing and having to improvise in order to keep up.

Pretty sure the transformation Vegeta took at the TOP and fought Moro with was Blue Evolution
Im pretty sure blue evolution was shown in the manga in the tournament of power when fighting Jiren. When vegeta gave that nonsense speech.
And again vs Moro, where Piccolo states "it's that same SSB Vegeta used at the Tournament??"
“Hey, do you know who the fans would love to get some screen time and recognition?” “Goten? Trunks? Pan and Bulla?” “SHUT UP ITS BARDOCK AGAIN”
okay to be fair bardock is a popular character... only z bardock not super bardock. i don't care though, bardock is bardock (and super bardock is actually canon so)
but yeah more goten, pan and bulla pls, if kid trunks ends up like future trunks when he grows up then more of him too
Funny, when pre- super hero chapters drop - i remember that most people was not happy. The one's with trunks and go ten... So once again fans don't know what they want.
Who tf wants to see pan and Bulla 🤮
Goten has potential tho. I wish he was goku black
To me, Super Bardock is cooler than Z Bardock and i remember Z Bardock being one of my favorites when i was younger.

So does this mean Beerus has eyebrows?? But the Ultra Ego takes them away
No.
other way around, Beerus doesn't have eyebrows so UE's design doesn't have eyebrows cause it meant to resemble Beerus
I always thought Black Freeza was inverting the color of Goku's MUI form.
Like how he chose the color gold for his first transformation.
i liked the credit card thing since he was gold, now he's black, and there's still at least one more colour above them all, being platinum... new frieza form leaked????

Ironic, Toyotaro created Xicor as a fan manga, having wayyy more potential than the whole of DBS. Sorry Toyo, even your dreams were destroyed.
Xicor and West Supreme Kai are the early equivalent of Towa and Mira or Goku Black and Zamasu. Toyotaro was in the right frequency before it was even a thing.

Toriyama is getting up there in age, so it's entirely possible he's past his prime, or he's lost his edge for long-form storytelling. I seriously doubt we'll ever get anything as good as Saiyan through Frieza. SSB Evolution IS in the manga’s chapters, he unlocked it against Toppo, it has a new aura compared to regular SSB, in the coloured pages his hair is a slightly more deeper blue as well like the anime did, just not as much, all in addition to that volume cover version which is very obviously a different blue (and SSBE Vegeta is also seen on the back cover of the final ToP volume in place of UI Goku) and Vegeta has almost exclusively used this form instead of SSB ever since the ToP with just a few exceptions in the early Moro arc.
