      No. Drywall anchors can be really good.

      If the bike wasnt supported by the ground, Id be more worried, but even so if someone bumped into the bike it could easily rip out of the wall.

      Hi hornit. I really wanted this but I'm not sure why the large doesn't fit into my 2.3. Inch tyres? I haven't mounted it to the wall as it need super force to get it round my tyre.

    If you just put in a simple velcro strap behind it as you mounted it, you could use that to secure it a little better.

    Thanks for the review. I purchased the XL, which is meant for 2.3”-2.7” tires, and my 2.35” tires were too loose for comfort. I could easily bump the bike out of the clip and was also worried about unexpected deflation as you mentioned.
    I bought heavy duty Velcro tape and stuck to the outside of the clip. I put gorilla tape on the adhesive of the other side of the Velcro and used to secure the tire. It works very well. I can also use the Velcro strap to pull the clip together a bit so it’s tighter around my tire.
    I also stuck some wood to the wall at the bottom for the bottom tire to go against in order make the bike more vertical rather than leaning back.

    I use 3 of those for some months now in my living room. One Small for a Rose CRS 3000, a Medium for a TCX SLR 2 2016 and a Medium for a Croix de Fer. The Rose with it's 23mm tires lacks a bit of grip, but in Total I am super happy.
    I like your idea with those straps, i might build that with some Hot glue.

    I prefer the Topeak Swing Up DX as it holds the bike OFF the ground, and you can angle the bike more parallel to the wall once the bike is mounted.

    Is stupid and usless! The bike is still toucing the floor. If that's the case, you can simply use piece of aluminum profile or any metal hook (hand made) to make your own gripper.

    I’ve checked and reviewed this product as well. Pretty cool little rack! I agree with others here and would not be using this with drywall anchors. I actually think those are for block mounting and not for drywall. The first time you pulled the bike out it would rip the CLUG out of the wall.

    Put a strap over it, because ALL tires lose PSI, daily sometimes hourly depending on lots of things.... Tubeless or tubed, doesn't matter. Just a cold hard fact cyclists know and understand. Once this issue is addressed, I'm down to purchase them, they do look fucking Awesome!

    Nice idea of strap option.

  • @tmwei396
    @tmwei396 6 років тому

    This is a good idea and I like the simplicity of it but it is not ready for primetime. The placement of the "rack" on the wall is very bike specific meaning it is set for a specific wheel base. I have 4 different bikes with 4 different wheel base so I can't use them interchangeably. Also the tire size range of each rack is quite narrow so that further limits the use of each rack for one bike. As for improvements, having a strap to hold the wheel in place in case of a flat is a great idea but it does require a 2-step process which takes away from the simplicity and ease of use but there's another way around it. I have a couple of other ideas to improve on the concept but I'm not going to bore you with it since this isn't the forum for it.

      Yes CLUGing in the rear wheel is another use of the CLUG which works really effectively. Check out some of the photos on our instagram to see what it will look like (@thehornit). We find mounting it with the rear wheel outside is also a really good way of stabilising the bike when washing it down after a long cycle.

  • @izenteno78
    @izenteno78 6 років тому

    Awesome, does it affect a bike hydraulic brakes and fork to be hanging like this for a long period (say one month)? Also, people need to understand this is not saving any space, its just using the same amount of space in a different format, vertical vs horizontal, so for a lot of us it makes sense to use this kind of rack, lay off the hate for not saving space, if you want to save space, take your bike apart and put it in a box

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  6 років тому +1

      I highly doubt disc brakes would be affected because the levers are higher than the calipers (definitely for the rear end usually for the front)

    I've been using one for about a year on a road bike with 28mm tubeless tires and it's pretty solid. Apart from the fact that the plastic bit holding the tire deflates it and the tire loses pressure. That said - the bike somehow haven't managed to fall over when tire was flat.

    Hi Clint,
    you have a new Giant 2019 TCX advanced in this video, from paper I could not tell any differences between this 2019 model and the 2018 one you had except for those cosmetic. Would you please let me know what Giant doesn't say on its website for this 2019 model? Retail prices for 2018 models are now cheaper, it makes sense to get a discounted new 2018 now than a 2019 bike if specs are the same. Thanks.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  6 років тому

      The only change is the tires. Also the 2019 version comes without tubes, which if recall correctly was not the case for 2018. It's actually kind of humorous why I got the 2019. It looked like they change their geometry numbers for the 2019 and I wanted to try it. After I ordered it they corrected the numbers and they were the same as the 2018. Oh well!

    Could there potentially be an issue with the clug pulling the tyre off the rim bead? If the fit is fairly tight, pulling it off with force could drag the tyre slightly, loosing the seal and subsequently some air. What do you think?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  6 років тому

      No, the amount of force it takes to pull it out is nowhere near the amount of force put on the bead when mountain biking.

      Hmmmm u sure man I just got a MTB and run tubeless at 19psi. I feel yanking this off might mess up the tubeless seal. New too all this and have a Clug I am getting ready to install. I wonder if lightly spraying the tire would make for easier on and off.

    Why is this better than a normal hook?

    • @sweaterdood1203
      @sweaterdood1203 5 років тому

      Depends how you are using the hook. If you use a hook to suspend your bike by the wheel, you are putting a lot of stress on your headset bearings as well as your rim/spokes, in a direction that they are not meant to support. If you suspend it by the top tube, be wary of catching and kinking cables (no problem with internal routing). Dont get me wrong hooks work fine, but there are a couple of things that you should pay attention to, especially if you are dealing with carbon frames, where wearing things prematurely can be catastrophic.

    I DON'T REALLY SEE THE USE FOR THIS KIND OF MOUNT, YOU STILL USING THE SAME SPACE AS IF YOU HAVE THE BIKES ON THE FLOOR LEANING AGAINST THE WALL.... THE CONCEPT OF A WALL MOUNT TO ME IS TO GET THE BIKES OUT OF THE WAY .... TO ME IS THIS IS USELESS CLINT.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  6 років тому +1

      I think it's most helpful if you only had like 3 feet of available wall space

    • @sweaterdood1203
      @sweaterdood1203 5 років тому +1

      It comes down to how you use your space. In terms of wall usage, I can fit 4 road bikes vertically in the same space as 1 bike horizontally. Sure it takes up more space from the wall into the room, but that isnt a concern where I have them. Also with a small bit of extra effort you can make a wedge to mount these at an angle saving even more space from the wall into the room. I dont have these specific mounts, but its a nifty idea (with mentioned strap upgrade).
      Also, why are you yelling?
