  • I just bought a FX loop for my Hammond and it's awesome. This is getting the Deep Purple Jon Lord sound for real.
    I use an Ibanez Tube Screamer between the hammond and leslie for this sound. Just SICK! I'm playing a completely random jam here. Enjoy!
    Instruments used as always:
    Hammond A100 (B3) organ
    Leslie 251 speaker
    Ibanez Tube Screamer
    Trek II FX Loop
    VIDEO OWNED AND CREATED BY MYSELF, SJOERD SCHELVIS.

    Oh lord! Perfect perfect perfect. THAT sounnnnnndd. Perfect. So many other people get caught up in the whole Marshall thing and overdo it. But it's not about copying the gear, it's about getting the tone. You've got it. Well done, Sjoerd. Enjoy!

    This is insane :-))) Really amazing Lord-esque skills, man!
    This sound is probably best you can have with "transistors".
    But i think that this Lord's brutally sharp yet still clear overdrive can be done only with tube (pre)amplifier.

    Incredible! I’m speechless! Excellent job in creating the authenticity of a sound that you just don’t hear enough in music anymore.
    What country do you live in? I’m gonna’ guess somewhere in Europe? And I say this because most American “keyboard players” (regardless of exact instrument), just typically don’t have playing instincts like this. This is an aggressive, frontman-style, that you don’t see in today’s American pop culture.
    So I’m so glad to see you bringing it back in 2016, 17, and beyond.
    Keep up the good work.

    Love your videos and your style of playing man! Can you please explain (consider me a total beginner) how exactly did you connect the pedals and the effects loop? I have a Hammond M100 myself with lower manual bass foldback and a line out connection. My connecting scheme is: Hammond output --> Lester K Stereo Rotary Speaker pedal --> mixer -->speakers. I get the rotation effect (to an extent) but i barely get any distortion, it is almost hard to notice even with the drive knob turned to the max. Do you maybe know the soulution to my problem? Do I need an effects loop? How do I connect it? Thank you for your anwers

      I bought it from trek II. Im far to inexperienced to build it on my own. It's best when playing on 100% volume with a bit of overdrive from a pedal creating a mix with natural overdrive. So awesome. I added a second leslie 2 months ago and now it's just unreal

    This sounds great!
    Can you elaborate on the setup?
    Does any (over)drive come from the organ itself? or is it all from the Tube Screamer?

    • @SjoerdHammond
      @SjoerdHammond  7 років тому +1

      Nadav Merom probably both. The organ overdrive is absolutely a beast by itself but requires the volume to be really loud. The OD pedal gives it the extra punch it needs to be truly overdriven on normal volume levels. I guess in this case volume of the organ and leslie would be somewhere between 65-85%. But you can state that most of the overdrive comes from the pedal

    • @NadavMerom
      @NadavMerom 7 років тому +1

      Thanks for the quick reply,
      Applying overdrive ON existing overdrive is OK ?

    • @SjoerdHammond
      @SjoerdHammond  7 років тому

      Sure, as long as it's not too much. I occasionally use the organ at 100% volume with a little overdrive from the pedal added on top of the existing overdrive. I found that the sound that's produced sounds as close as I can get to what I heard live from deep purple.

      Been there. If you've got the motivation time and money. Try investing in a organ keyboard or real Hammond. A new world will open for you;)

  • @dpkeys
    @dpkeys 7 років тому

    Does the volume from the Leslie get quieter when you are using the FX loop? I have been using Zener diodes between my G-G terminals to get the Jon Lord overdrive sound but at max overdrive setting it sounds awesome but it's quiet, so I have to use a middle-ish setting to be heard.

    • @SjoerdHammond
      @SjoerdHammond  7 років тому

      dpkeys Well.., all pedals I use in the FX loop have volume control, so I don't really know. I do know if I put the pedal and organ at max volume, which is about 100000 decibel, you will be deaf in about 2 seconds but not before the leslie and house explode. Pedal volume is usually at 25% for a enjoyable but loud volume.
