The image of them breaking the album covers and punching the gold record are a clear metaphor for the struggle they had with the record companies, who insisted on turning them into a light pop group. They never gave up and preferred to disband the group.
Navigated three years through a "sin bin " as a teenage girl with Soft Cell as my constant companion. Non stop erotic cabaret on a stretched and bootlegged c60 tape. Met Marc as an adult and he is a wonderful man xxxx💜💜💜
Honestly, if you were that gay sex dwarf in London in the early 80s, and you met these two, you would probably chuckle inside like a good englishman and say to yourself "well! that was bally good luck!".
It is quite interesting that quite a few huge and iconic English music icons have been gay. Obviously Elton, George Michael and Freddie are outstanding examples, but there is a swathe of second tier brilliance such as Soft Cell also. It is hard to think of any big gay acts from any other country. The B52s spring to mind for US popular music, and precious few others ever from anywhere.
As a fan of over 40 years who owns all their records, this is my very favourite song. They have lots of good songs, so check them out. But this one is particularly special.
@@mikekaraoke It was a top 20 hit in the UK and Ireland, that's it. I'm not from the UK, and I was never fan enough to know all their albums, so I don't even know the title of the album this is from. The song also wasn't included on their compilation album Memorabilia - The Singles in 1991 (only as a bonus track on the CD version). Anyway, thanks for reminding me, cause I had already forgotten about this. Now I've added it on Spotify.
The wind in my hair And the black in my eyes I was holding back tears As I reeled with surprise There was no one to phone I just chewed at the time I was waving goodbye To control of my mind And the beat of my heart Marks the passing of time And I just wanna scream to the sky There are times when my mind is an explosion of feelings I'm trying to hold on to the soul inside I go looking for lies In your play-the-game eyes But I couldn't find the way out The where's or the why's Should I laugh Should I cry Should I live Should I die? It's a wild celebration of feelings inside And the beat of my heart Marks the passing of time And I just wanna scream to the sky And there are times when my mind is an explosion of feelings I'm trying to hold on to the soul inside And the beat of my heart Marks the passing of time And I just wanna scream to the sky And there are times when my mind is an explosion of feelings I'm trying to hold on to the soul inside And the beat of my heart Marks the passing of time And I just wanna scream to the sky And there are times when my mind is an explosion of feelings I'm trying to hold on to the soul inside (I've got to hold on to the soul to the soul to the soul inside) to the soul Inside... Celebration of feelings inside And I'm trying to hold on And I'm trying to hold on And I'm trying to hold on Hold on... Hold hold hold hold on Feelings... inside...
marc vocals are really good in this, i fucking love this song, so raw and angsty. also i always thought that it can be great as a duo performance, maybe a cover song
As all great bands do, they also introduced my young and impressionable ears to Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Peter Hammill etc. The Mambas second album is in my top 3 of all time.
They looked Like The Cure on Speed, But I Love Them...it'sad to see them now old and semiconstructed (Marc), so i'll keep this cool images of this semi metal Soft Cell forever. As most say The Coolest Band of the 80's!!
Everyone has different ears. Some far more sophisticated than others. There’s been bad music every decade … the 80s though has been - by far - the best decade in history for pop music.

They insisted but Soft Cell ignored them. Tbh they knew they were never gonna be light pop.
Marc Almond is such an icon.

My favourite soft cell track
Wow, I didn't know this song, I think it's actually better than their big hits. Will check out the album.

So many different looks, hairstyles and song styles. Soft Cell are an Iconic band, that still sounds great and fresh in 2024 and beyond....
Brilliant. Brings back good memories. Marc Almond your still the best. So glad Soft Cell are back.

Culture Club - It's a Miracle
Soft Cell - Soul Inside
It's 2024 now. Mr. Almond, You are still the best.❤
YES ..THIS WAS THE MOST IMPRTANT POP GROUP EVER..WHAT!!
As all great bands do, they also introduced my young and impressionable ears to Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Peter Hammill etc. The Mambas second album is in my top 3 of all time.
Not to forget the huge influence they had on the likes of Depeche Mode.
Class 👊🏼
Dave Ball's synths are almost industrial...you can see the influence Soft Cell in so many ways
Check out Cabaret Voltaire and DAF's Gold Und Leibe album if you like this :-)
Era il brano clou di quando facevamo le feste al liceo...❤
AWESOME 80s GREATNESS

Just genius in so many ways.
aveva cambiato partner
great song!
why obsession with dwarves?
Why not!
It’s just a reference to their song Sex Dwarf, this song has a lot of refs to their old music
No pasa el tiempo por esta canción, siempre moderna

I'm pretty sure at this point the cure was just as drugged up

This video is a metaphorical expression of where Soft Cell were at in their career…
The end of Soft Cell...
Sensacional
Great example of how embarrassingly bad some music in the 80s was!
soft cell were a good band feelings when marc almond sang
I like some Soft Cell songs but this one sucks like a hoover!
It’s funny how people’s tastes differ though. This is my favourite Soft Cell song, and this album was my favourite too.
Everyone has different ears. Some far more sophisticated than others. There’s been bad music every decade … the 80s though has been - by far - the best decade in history for pop music.
This is one of my favourite songs. No accounting for taste!
