Hey guys, thanks for stopping by for another episode in the tutorial series!
Today we'll be doing a quick focus on the metro/subway lines. Nothing too hectic, but a bit of a starting point. The city is just shy of 60k cims and even with the preexisting public transportation there are still too many cars on the road. If we widen our coverage area and increase efficiency through metro/subway lines then we'll see the reduction in traffic that we're after :)
Hope this helps guys!
Enjoy, - Ігри
More people should know that metros in cities skylines can cross the sea if you go deep enough
I’ve used it once. I made a metro line from the city centre (And a BIG transport hub i called Central Market) to the Airport and i didn’t want to build a bridge so i made the metro line go deeper and cross underneath the river.
Imperial: "pretty backed up" pointing to all green roads.
Me: Laughs in 70% traffic flow on my current 100k spaghetti city with no mods or dlc.
I know I am kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good website to watch newly released series online?
@Manuel Eliseo i use Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Nickolas Kaiser yea, have been using FlixZone for since april myself =)
@Nickolas Kaiser thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it!
@Manuel Eliseo no problem xD
Quick tip with subway and rail lines. I first run the track parallel past the station with a small gap, like 5 tiles or so, then hook from the station to the main track. This makes it so that a stop at that station doesn't force all line traffic to stop there and traffic going past doesn't have to slow down. It makes the most sense with rail, but with subways if you want lines that stop some places and not others it works well also.
Love how excited you get by a well worked system! I'm learning a lot, thank you
15:48 - That colour joke cracked me up quite good :D
Thanks alot for this video! :D I struggle a LOT with this kind of transport :D
At around 21:00 instead of placing many stations next to each other, You should have used a multitrack metro station...save space and can handle tons of traffic
Love your videos man. Hands down the best City Skylines-tutorial out there.
Jedi, where two metro tracks meet on one side at the train station, extend the tunnel on the other side. This allows for metro cars to switch tracks on the unused side of the station, eliminating blockages. It also provides a place to store empty cars.
Join one track onto another away from the station. If trains are queued, it leaves room to merge.
Love them little rambles and jokes in the begining of the video... also thanks for the tip on how to metro or subway lol thanks man appreciate it
I like to draw inspiration from real subway layouts. I had to download modded stations with multiple platforms at different levels but what I like to do is have long lines stretch the length of my city and then have lines going perpendicular to them that meet at the same stops that let people transfer lines easily, I've found that a TON of people use these transfer lines
That is very similar to Stockholm metro and you can use tram connecting between different metro lines when it's a long way between the metro stations, that is how it is here in Stockholm. Ps use the tram only tracks when a road is heavily used to by pass the queues on the roads but also have the tram in mixed traffic for some parts of the line.
I got inspiration from Berlin they have very well desinged metro and train system
@@Petri_Pennala I searched for the Berlin metro lines and I got scared, too much going on, so confusing. My country's metro is so much simpler that I'm not used to this kind of spider web ;-;
I do the same, kind of a metro grid
Instant subscribe after the joke "Back on the Track" , hahaha. Don't know why but I laughed so hard. Good work dude.
You should do an update to this video including the new Metro Overhaul Mod.
Definitely planning on it :)
A "u-shaped" line and a line crossing it? What is this, Toronto?!
Lmao line 1
Or D.C.! lol
Halifax
With the two metro lines on the small island you could serve it as a single line going back on itself starting and ending at the train station. That way you don't have the crossing over of the trains at that station.
I've got the bus routes all rerouted so they they link with metro lines, all the metro lines meet up with intercity train station that have comercial and entertainment areas. Tourists and residents alike love to be conversing in the comercial and entertainment area, also cruise ships bring in lots of people who just flock to the metro.
Now you need to put a bus stop right outside of each of the metro/subway stations to better integrate the two. Some stations would need two bus stops if you have intersecting bus routes.
That's cool. Way before I watched this, my metro only runs far distances.. like 3-4 diff. parts of the city. I don't like removing people's homes & shops to make room. On a future city, I'll keep those tips in mind.
Nice tutorial man! I like your city design, did you create the Islands by yourself?
22:25 wow first moment i see rezidents complaints about noise!
For 14:00 i personally would not connect that stop then make a branch off of the tunnel into that stop. Then when making my lines I make one that goes to the train station and another one that goes straight.
Nice video.. I wish we could set our metro and bus schedule like we could in cities in motion 2. Therefore, we could eliminate buses/metro backup.
That 90 degree damp though 1:05
great video
why i cant build city like this god this is amazing Q_Q
When I make subways I always make the stops across the street, although it double my stops.
In Pittsburgh we have the T. It is just a metro line that goes through the city underground with an above ground end station. It is a nightmare trying to get on to and riding on the T after Steelers games. I can't even fathom what it would be like to try to get on an NYC subway on a normal day. Ok. Nobody probably cared about this but I wanted to tell people what subways are like where I live.
NYC usually isn't crowded.
part of the yellow subway line looks like its from the YUS toronto line
+Amal Deb Haha yup - it was my inspiration :).
I live in Toronto too!
+ImperialJedi Lucky! I was unfortunate enough to be stuck in New Brunswick, until I'm 18...
Don't know if you made a new one.. but.. these days we have so many Workshop items someone even made a set of Simple metro stations that have Multiple platforms and on different heights and angles and everything.
Totally unrelated question
Where/how do you get those rocks you use sometimes? :) The rock piles you use sometimes looks insanely awesome :D
Under Landscaping - one of the tabs is for rocks, along with spreading shrubs, and the Small, Medium and Tall trees. I use the trees to screen unsightly things like landfill sites. Haven't yet found a really useful purpose for rocks - please let me know what you use them for?
Question: adding trains and subs in the city, would this mean that you could - down the line - remove some of the streets?
Theoretically yes - BUT you would still need some pathways for pedestrians to walk around and a few roads here and there for service vehicles :)
Not really as you need the streets to build houses, business, etc. on. Plus the streets are needed for buses which are essential for a fully rounded mass transportation system.
It shows an error icon if you remove the street that gives access to a metro entrance. Found out when I accidentally deleted a street.
Do you really need to double up the lines to get the metro moving in both directions? When you complete a circuit the arrows on the line change to both ways so i assumed it was gonna flow both ways.
can you please help me understand how i can use multi-platform stations? I feel like no one uses them and no one hops on different lines. I don't know if it's because the game doesn't allow them too or what... But i been trying to understand it for the past month. I have MOM mod and MTSE, as well as spawn points fixer. I have 160k population and I have like 19 lines. Almost all my stations are 2-platforms or 3-4 platform stations. They all intersect with eachother smoothly but the citizens never hop off the north/south metro and hop on the east/west metro.
Well maybe sense you said to take a bus or tram why maybe add a stop of each subway station and tram?
0:10 in Deutschland we call them u-bahn but in english it's metro / subway but we still call them u-bahn in english some of us
Where's the next video in this series? I watched the harbor cargo videos but I think those came before this...
So whenever I meddle with water shit goes sideways. Could you possibly show whether and how we can take metro lines/roads underwater, just as a cool feature i know bridges exist xD
Also, how do I work with canals?
You must be from Toronto! The yellow line is exactly like our main line in Toronto... we call them subways also...
Kevin L he is. In his Tram video, he utilizes red trams and briefly describes the Toronto Transit Commission
why dont continuous trains exist? i mean trains where the carriages dont have a end, like a full circle. it seems to me that it would be more practical given that it would never colide with other trains and it would always be moving .
like a lot off circular metro lines close to each other .
what do you call the light blue between the subway station and metro lines tools?
I made a big metro layout, made metro lines and. I have over 700 residents waiting for the metro but there aren't any metro coming.
Anyone knows how I can fix it ?
Is there a way I can design a city so that most people use public transport ?
Yes, I'm watching this in 2021! I'm having an issue. My metro lines won't connect. I'm not using metro overhaul mod. What could be the issue? Thanks in advance!
how is your traffic sooooo good
I would have just made the east west corridor omg
Can you branch lines?
why do i have the option for an underground metro but no option for any kind of tunnel? I only have the option to build above ground tracks.
Just keep hitting page down until the tunnel appears - they need to be deep!
Hey the curve is not that stupid but you could start curving earlier !
The subway is made like the Toronto one
I never use trains, only subways. Seems easier.
William Holmes nice one
Trains are a good way of bringing in tourists. cargo trains are critical to shipping cargo around your city between industrial and commercial zones
What's the intersection at 1:00 called?
It's a DCMI :)
Double crossover, merging interchange.
Can someone explain to me why i still have an icon on some of my metro stations (icon: bleu line with red stripe) true it. I did everything right i think.. ?
Cryptocurrency Wereld You started a line and did not finish.
what transport mod are u using
I did all this but metro vehicles won't start. in Depot it says no metro depots found, am I missing something?
Praful Rudra did u use the base metro station or ones from the workshop, if u used ones from the workshop i think u need to also download the metro depot from the workshop. Don't quote me in this, but i think i'm right
I learned the underground trains calling the mm the subway and I live in America
14:06 Why not just put a triangle intersection like trains?
Bro, I can't even figure out how to have more than two roads on top of each other that don't intersect.
How does the game think I'll be able to do this at my current level
Hi someone pls let me know how to deconstruct the underground track?? Can't do that with normal bulldozer🙄🙄🙄
I think you can do a big circle on the subway and then have line in between. Like the one in Tokyo or Shanghai
How to download the game
HOW DO I DELETE LINES
Bada boom realist guys in the room h you doin
on my game i have no tunnel icon just tracks can anyone help?
same issue here
What do you mean
Pg down button
How did you manage to place subway underground?
only one line? shouldve made intersections with multiple lines itd be more practical
what map is this again? Thanks!
I think it's the Black Woods
Its called subway because they are a subterranean way to travel subway restaurant came after
Are you doing a live stream tonight?
+Charley Rogan I'm still out doing that photo shoot and I'm not sure if I'll be seeing my girlfriend or not afterwords.
I think I'll know in about an hour or so.
I'll update via Twitter @ImperialJedi
I'm off to bed now, so I'll watch the update if there is one tomorrow!
I put one metro for every district 🤣
What kind of city is that?
So, the black line is the express line on the railway?
Your public transportation system is still inefficient. My city is about 33-37k people and i have 4500-4600 people using my public transportation. Still got room to grow, but it's kinda difficult with 15-20 fps.
with 40k i had over 10,000 people using it. I always aim for more than 20% of the population using public transport. My metro is so efficient that no one will use passenger trains if i put them in. Without cargo trains I can make almost 10k profit from public transport.
@@derektweed I know this is old but do you have any advice?
MJ oh man, I haven’t played this game in ages, but let me try to give some simple advice. Maybe a bit cheesy but have only 2 stop loops and double up so 2 lines stop at every subway, but going to different places, so people can change the train. Basically have a small central loop with external loops all overlapping. I made my cities in blocks, so there was a subway station within ever 3-4 block radius. Something like that. Sorry I can’t be more specific but it’s been years since I played
why only 30min video, why not....3h?
Your bad traffic I would see as a win in my cities. Lol
awwww man what the hell...at the point where you unlock metro my town's totally screwed, I need to start again :( why is learning this game so hard! I've always wanted to get into city builders and i was told this was the best place to start but dayum, issues popping up everywhere and it's clear i dunno how roads work lol, not organised in the slightest. maybe i should give up ;-; or watch tonnnns of tutorials...
Where do you live? San Francisco? you sound like BendelaCreme as well? he is a drag queen.
Its Saffron so true !
Skylines game doesn't have many penalties with improved public transport. I charge my citizens $18 to ride the dirty bus and only $12 to ride the biofuel bus to encourage the old ones to go back to depot but they don't. The game is flawed as i only have a biofuel bus hub and it spawns both biofuel and normal buses even though i'm paying for an expensive biofuel one i don't know why. Anyway i get so angry that this game has so many flaws i cheat like mad and put the bus capacity for 320 passengers and 350 for biofuel. For a megalopolis I usually bank on getting about 4500 citizens and about 3000 tourists riding the bus every week which brings ion most of my transport pay ans i always make a loss on trains the game is rigged that way and after a while people will prefer the metro and bus over anything else and say goodbye to your lovely ferry network and blimps monorail etc. I can still make a small profit on lightrail trams though.
You're kind of all over the place at times. Try sticking with one path at a time and not jumping all over the place.
Does anyone else have to slow this down to 0.75?😂
How was there so much talking and so little learning for me... sorry bro don't mean to be harsh, i guess i just wanted a quick summary of how to use it.
Sorry, very jumpy.
So much yapping...
dude you talk too much
