  • Prop 59 is aimed at undoing a major Supreme Court ruling made in 2010 - the now famous Citizens United decision. The Supreme court’s ruled it could not limit the amount of money that corporations or organization spend on political campaigns. Why? Because limiting money is in effect limiting their freedom of speech. After all these days you need money to get your message out. The decision opened the floodgates for corporations and wealthy individuals to spend multiple millions on political campaigns. This money is separate from what candidates spend.

So voting yes will limit how much corporations can spend on campaigns (such as tv ads, etc.)? Can someone please explain this to me please?

Congratulations, California. You just gave politicians even more power to regulate themselves.
