Trying to ram ships to stop them is also not recommended now for bigger ships: Vermillion added a very strong very short range turret at the bow of the larger ships, that will start deleting your ship if you try to stop them via ramming. If you want them to stop, better kill their thrusters instead.
J, I am so sorry that happened to you. I'm also sorry that I couldn't stop laughing the entire time. Only you can find such a random way to "lose" a ship! I've never seen an OPV take a trophy like that.
Next time you get stuck in an OPV (it happens to me at least once a season) I recommend judicious use of the 'O' key to try to dislodge yourself. The 'O' key tends to defy physics and can push you through the OPV as it orients you. That plus regular thruster movements tends to jiggle you free eventually.
I am also going to recommend putting a "Hold My Beer Box" on your Makar. I usually dump my inventory and toolbar into that box when I do OPV battles because I don't typically need all the gear and I know I'm going to do something stupid and die out there. Just keep a multitool, some charges, a salvage core, and some ration packs and head out.
Cheer up though! The loss wasn't anything you can't get again, and you now know one other way to not defeat a Zirax OPV!

Mark a waypoint to the backpack and fly to it on your way back. Or use TT and drop off your stuff and die and later retrieve it. Or jet pack to the makar. Or TT while you were stuck and wait a few minutes and jump back. Quite a few options. Just need to recognize what options you have before making rash decisions.
J just give me the word next time you are online I will restore your backpack for you at the time this happened cause it wasn't your fault.
they really need to fix entities glitching into each other like that, what a crappy loss :(
edit: its very common, you can re-create it by trying to use O to level a ship and clip it inside another

Once you had reached the Ridgerat you could have just placed a HUD marker from the 'Map' view.
If only you had a backup save-file to load up. Quite a few game breaking bugs to be encountered in this game still.
In this scenery maby it's good to have a fuel pack on you, and spawn in something from factory. Like small escape ship
Man, that was some exceptionally bad luck there. I've never seen anything like it in all the time I've played this game. If you ever get stuck on something like that again, pressing the 'O' key is usually the best way to get unstuck. It sucks to lose a combat ship, but I think that's practically a right of passage for this game. Hang in there man!
Maybe take a break from space battles and hit up some ground POIs for a bit to replace the guns.
You could downgrade the gatling turrets right now, but once you get ready to start taking on Legacy, they wont cut it against the drones. You should check the systems in neutral space for Zirax ships. There are typically less to worry about than when you are in zirax space. It is a good place to test. You did great on your combat this time. Obviously there is plenty of room for improvement, but you had the win till it snagged you. Getting close is how I do it. I get right on the nose and shoot into the core. All you have to do is keep at it. You'll eventually learn where the core is on each ship and you can then just snipe the core and leave all the goodies to salvage. This ship is functioning the way it should. That midsection seems awful weak. I don't know if it wouldn't be a good idea to reinforce it a little bit to prevent penetration in that area. It seemed like penetration is what got you and the explosion internally is what made your hole.
I think you could mark you location on map before dying. That would point you to last location of backpack until it despawns. Also when I had issues like that, I would log off immediately and wait few minutes. During that time playfield would unload and, most likely, your ship would detach from enemy ship. Not guaranteed, but could help
Good point. If that happens again I will definitely set a location marker if I am planning on removing my helmet in space. lol. Also, yeah, I should have logged out when that happened. I also did not think about the O key. I don't know if that would have worked or not, but maybe. lol. And thanks again!
Might have been a traumatic experience, but objectively my favorite playthrough episode so far in RE2, by any streamer. At least you're out there fighting in your CV, get back out there tiger, revenge will be yours Jeff!

could maybe look at adding a tool turret to the ridge rat somewhere?
