According to another news source a DPS employee was interviewed who said staff like occupational and speech therapists who took jobs with DPS because they would honor their years of service in the state said their paychecks were cut last month without warning. Allegedly DPS didn’t honor their initial agreement with pay and experience and downgraded their pay scale as if they were new hires. These people left behind other job offers based on what was promised. This is way bigger than making a simple accounting error. ***Side note: it’s amazing how they can’t find funds to pay their teachers and staff a decent living wage and salary but the state has over a billion in untapped Covid money just sitting in the bank. Also, ironically DPS found a way to approve a 90 million renovation to Northern High School (I think that’s the one) that opened up in August and will open a new DSA high school with a budget of 240+ million (I may be wrong about this number). Priorities is definitely backwards with this board.

You know what would have really made sense? Cut the CFO's salary and keep the pay for these lower paid individuals, explaining to the public that it was a mistake but that it is the right thing to do to not impact these employees. Just tell them their next pay raise may be delayed. If you make a mistake at the C-level, heads would roll. Really sad.
Kind of hard to do when most of the Durham leadership is incompetent look at the millions they wasted on that shot spot system that they already scrapped. They can't even do basic math and balance a checkbook
