Thank you for turning me on to The Paris Muse. I read just about any NF about the art/artists of that period. Picasso's War was excellent and kind of surprising, too.
Kundera’s book has been on my TBR for decades. Thanks for reminding me! Also, I think his name is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllables, both in first
and last name: MEE-lan KUN-dera ❤
Eric, after you read "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" you should definitely check out the 1988 film version. Absolutely wonderful.
I am seeing a lot of buzz about I Will Crash. Little Scratch was such an interesting read and I am eager to try her new novel. The Maniac is another brilliant offering by Lebatut. I am hearing great things about The Heart in Winter and about The God of the Woods. Quite eager to read them both. And yes, I love waking up extra early and sneaking in some quiet reading but I do pay for it later in the day!
I really liked "The Maniac." It's an absorbing blend of fiction and non-fiction. I have not read "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," but I really enjoyed the film. I haven't rewatched the film since 1988, so this might be a great time to read the book. And Kevin Barry sounds fascinating -- an Irish author writing about Montana. Lots of grea book ideas in this video. Thank you, Eric.
I'm interested in reading The God of the Woods. I read The Unbearable Lightness of Being a long time ago. I think it's a beautifully written book.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being is one of my favorite books of all time. I reread it this year and felt swept up in it all over again. Would love to hear your review as well. Happy reading, Eric! 💜
The Maniac is amazing! Enjoy
I want to read “Teddy”
And “Rosarita” & “Little Joe “ and “Swift River” …. Yeah, they ALL sound good .
Rosarita is absolutely wonderful I think it is the best book I have read this year - incandescent and eloquent A story of mother’s daughters and how we live our lives Do read it I found it haunting
Thanks, Eric!🌷The MANIAC is a polyphonic narrative of Neumann’s life through the “voices” given by Labatut to members of his family, friends, colleagues and other people who knew him. The result is, at least for me, the very realistic portait of a brilliant scientist, but a rather unlikable man. A great read!
Brilliant! More Dawn French impressions please! 😂
I’m currently listening to The God of the Woods. I’m a big Liz Moore fan
Mention of The Little Mermaid set me to thinking about various things, such as why there are no gigantic mermaids, but more to the point very often books are too long with authors struggling to cover the second or third hundred pages with inked letters. An essay is usually plenty to express a thought, an idea, a concept, or an hypothesis. I'm going to try to read Little Joe, and not only because it reminds me of the old tv show, Bonanza. Thx.
I love your mug.
Rosarita sounds quite interesting!
