I watched this show in its entirety before looking at the comments and I'm shocked at how many people didn't like it! I loved this show. Ethereal, dreamy, and futuristic! LOVE

my first reaction was LOVE! OBSESSED! and after considering the comments and watching the show one more time... its true... the collection is NOT Haute Couture... and the Avant Gard esthetic is not what is 'in vogue' right now... and a lot of the designs do look cheap and lack true premiere atelier craftsmanship!

It’s impossible to make looks that doesn’t look similar to previous creations from other designers. It’s fashion, not painting or sculpting.
Damn its Mcqueen. Mugler, Van Herpen, old Dior, John Galliano of Maison Margiela, Viktor and Rolf, Gareth Pugh, Hussein Chalayan, Rei Kawakubo and so on... got tired.

@@SuxxxMyDixxx Olivier Rousteing is a great designer for Balmain but this is a sick joke from him. No distinction from the house sadly this is the first couture 2019 designed by Olivier.

I think Oliver is a good designer. Balmain has not done a haute couture collection in decades. This collection do not resemble the true DNA of the house. I think our designer has run out of ideas so he is seeking inspiration “aka” copying from else where.

I feel like this is a stereotype of what people think couture is. It’s like Zoolander. It just doesn’t feel that fresh or relevant
It is fresh and relevant only because all the other fashion houses have moved away from this type of presentation.

As referential as this was, I saw a little bit of the old Balmain too. I see what inspired him. This was beautiful and it looked well made. Stunning!!!
Omg this collection is stunning
From the white washing to the black enhancing this was all sorts of wrong, the runway setup was very off putting , the proportions were wrong, the materials didn´t look expensive and it was over-styled, the new logo is boring and cheapens the looks even more, in my opinión Olivier’s visión is exhausted and Balmain needs a more fresh, new and modern point of view

i agree the setting of the show needed to not be a french salon, but a space designed with the same inspiration of the looks. I noticed in the last 2 years he has really been taking inspiration from the history of other fashion houses which is a big mistake! he's trying way too hard to be the Karl Lagerfeld of BALMAIN. but i do appreciate his desire to create a fashion statement and visually impactful designs, theres so man fashion lines out there, the market is over saturated with the monochrome minimalist estetic it makes me want to die! so seeing fashion be so animated and bold is refreshing at this point.

I feel a 1980s vibe going on here. This reminds me of sci-fi films circa probably 1987. And I’m also getting a feel for late 1980s art. I’m getting an after taste of “Ruthless People.” This being said, I still found it fascinating.

It's like a weird sci-fi dream. I'm stuck in some kind of steampunk Narnia wonderland where all the women are drones from the future trying to find their way back to their leader (insert Tilda Swinton in a space suit)

I simply love so many dresses on the runway. Maybe some bits and that look similar to his previous collection or other designer, I would really love to wear many dresses from THIS collection.

the problem is that we all believe Olivier, for his young age, has an established aestethics for what he consider being luxurious p.a.p.; but then he failed terribly with this first couture, looking like anything but a fashion designer's graduation show!! IN THE HELL OF 2019!!!! Lord, I pray for him: his vision in years has worsened in quality.

This Collection is a hybrid of Chanel, Thierry Mugler and Yves Saint Laurent of the 80s. Just because the ready to wear line is going well in sales does not mean that Oliver is able to create haute couture....

Why have the model's skin tones been exaggerated? Isn't that problematic? Also, not a fan of covering the boobs with hands or leaving one bare. I'm pretty sure the whole idea of clothing is to clothe people. It's a tired statement leaving exposed nipples, can we leave it behind?

Believe me, a lot of women will wear couture on a daily, especially the rich chinese women. We just never see it because they won't go to same places us normal humans do lol
Ummm, why were only the fair complexion models painted that chalk colour? I don’t understand why you wouldn’t do it for all (White for fair & dark for deeper complexions) for the representation of visual consistency (like Victor & Rolf past collections). I’m probably missing something. IDK
It is Ludwi I’m not talking about skin colour, I’m talking about how they PAINTED some models skin over others. Like I said in original comment, I’m questioning the decision re: visual consistency.
