My aunts dog started barking while she was doing laundry. She went to put him out and while she was out of the laundry room, the floor fell thru the old house.😊
    True

I think you are correct Thanos was trying to keep you from proceeding, good job Thanos 👍

He stopped, went behind me and started barking. Then he led be back out. Thanos has never backed down from any raccoon. Once I saw his body language, I knew it was time to head back out into the clear. Dogs can sense and see what we can't.

My lab sometimes freaks out when she smells coyotes. Always enjoy your videos. Next fall I plan to visit my nephew in Fairbanks AK who wants to take me on a grouse hunt.

Might have been a coyote but Thanos has not backed down from any creature encounters so this one was hair-raising. Hunting grouse and fishing in AK is on my bucket list. You'll have to share you grouse hunt.

Got me beat ,Thanos was definitely not happy though, could it have been a Bobcat as notice Thanos was scenting a direct line between the trees like what ever spooked him was using both & Bobcats love pheasants before the snow lays up .
What semi auto were you using & do you like it overall? That first shot was a great example of swinging smoothly & ' painting' like a brush stroke the bird out of the sky ,even though it forced you to twist up with its flight path, well done.
Did you notice how hard your wife was to see when she walked out & fell without a orange hat? Great example of their usefulness .
I have gone a bit nostalgic lately & for all my upland hunts l have gone back to using 2 custom guns a old friend who was a great gunsmith built for me,both have mobile chokes & basically everything you can do to a field shotgun done, including custom fitted & made AA walnut stocks & both have their barrels docked to my preference of 26 inch .One is a old Beretta SxS with a fitted classic straight stock & the other a old 70's Japanese Miroku U/O that was based on a old Perazzi action .

@dazr123, thanks for the comment and for watching. Thanos definitely detected something he didn't like. When the dog retreats, I'd best do the same. I have both the 12 and 20 guage versions of the Retay Masai Mara in bronze walnut - basically copies of the Benelli. Retay's customer support has been superb! They've been my primary guns the last 5yrs so the O/U's don't see much action. Most of the time, if I'm well rested and stay focused, my shots are true. I know it when the birds flush in slow motion and one shot is all it takes. It's when I'm tired or distracted that the birds seem to flush in super sonic speed. :) As for my wife's hat, yes, I'll get her an orange eskimo hat. I knew her location but didn't understand why she didn't stick to the edge of the field and wandered into the thick stuff. I was actually on my way towards her as I've sensed she lost track of me. She's a real trooper! She used to carry the 20g OU Browning 725 but haven't due to arthritis in her wrist.

I once had a Brittany that would act like this and would sometimes take off on a dead run barking and howling. I thought something was after her. Turns out that her blood sugar would drop when she was getting close to exhaustion. I had to let her calm down, rest and give her something to get her blood sugar up. Apparently when her sugar would drop her brain would go haywire and she would ack this way. I would watch to not push her over what I had conditioned her for and always carried cookies along on our hunts.

If you were in Northern Michigan or Wisconsin I would say Wolves. Maybe a big cat or coyote?

    • @in.hindsight
      @in.hindsight  3 дні тому

We have big cats here in SD too so it's highly possible. At the beginning of the 2023 bird season, Thanos disappeared into the neighborhood and when he returned a few minutes later, he had deep lacerations on one of his hind legs. They were claw marks. A few days later the police put out a warning that a cougar was spotted a few blocks away. Needless to say, Thanos was out of commission for two months. It could explain why Thanos retreated quickly. I'll consider myself lucky.

Believe it or not, I had an encounter in northern MN while grouse hunting. It was very much a primate! I'll speak of it in a future video. Some land owner captured it on his trail cam not too far from where I had the encounter.

I shoot a Benelli Montefeltro 12ga auto, love the gun and feel as though I shoot it well, but it can unreliable in cold weather at times. I changed out the recoil spring and since I did that I don’t have the cycling issues but I do have light strike issue once in awhile even though I make sure to keep that bolt firmly forward each time (an issue they have recently re-designed but no retrofit option for mine). I am down to 2 over / under options for cold weather, the Citori and the Beretta silver pigeon, leaning towards that silver pigeon though. I do also have a 12ga Ithaca featherweight pump that was my dad’s……amongst some other guns…..he was the last person to shoot a pheasant with it and has been gone since 95 so if I can get on the old farm in ND for a hunt I’m going to hunt with that gun…..the old farmstead is still there however abandoned and falling apart. Good video brother👍🏻.

I also had a 20g Beretta Silver Pigeon but it didn't fit me well and I missed a lot so I sold it. Same for a Montefeltro 12g. Probably due to my short arms.

His body language seemed like he didn't want you to go forward. Badger? Cougar? Weak ice from spring fed source?
Nice hunts. Hard to outsmart the remaining birds on public land this time of year.

I've hunted that area before and this is the only time he behaved that way. Could have been an animal of sort that he didn't want to mess with. If the dog retreats, best to follow his lead.

I guess you don't have dogs or you haven't experienced a dog suddenly going berserk? I've seen a lot of strange stuff when out with my dogs. This is one of them I was able to capture. When the dogs bark and retreat, you'd best do the same.
