Also Brian Eno was very emotional talking about them many years ago.He explained he was hiding it but then came a time he couldn;t fight the feeling anymore and felt the relieving need to admit, not to mention Foo Fighters David Grohl and Corey Taylor(Slipknot) who publicly confessed this and don't care at all."l love ABBA!deal with it",said Corey Taylor to a reporter, also stating that 'Take a chance on me" is one of his favest also praising their lush production.Unbelievable?Yet True!.
“I didn’t have the courage to own up to this next band (ABBA) when I was 16 in the middle of punk rock.” , “At closing time at our local pub, often young women would sing ‘Thank You for the Music’, and I would sing it - and I was very thankful for the music.” BONO-U2 late .2023 .Some words of his very disarming confession on his secret big Abba love. Both The Edge and Bono had great teen memories from the time they grew up in Ireland listening to Abba's music but were afraid to admit in order to look more 'macho"l to their mates.ol..They even did a cover of SOS for a BBC programme.
That's hilarious because when U2 toured for the Actung Baby album, they actually did a version of Dancing Queen. My friend was there and said it was so awesome. That performance allowed me to admit that I liked ABBA and I was no longer ashamed! lol
@@dumbguydepot304 I guess they represent someone's right to want to feel purely happy and also able to be sensitive(vulnerable). And as another one once commented 'we tend to hide our vulnerable parts in order to protect them" It's touching and human, isn't it.
After their success of winning the Eurovision Song Contest with 'Waterloo' in 1974 ( I can still remember watching it live on TV) ABBA had to wait until the release of S.O.S to reach the top 10 in the UK singles charts but then followed a real dominance in the UK charts until they started to fall slightly out of favour right at the very end of their career in the early 80s (although they still had significant hits). Their music definitely started to become darker and reflected the breakups of the romantic relationships between the band members. I have to admit that I thought that Bjorn was one of the luckiest guys alive to have been married to Agnetha and then recently I saw a news headline where Bjorn (77) was 'stepping out with his girlfriend who is 28 years his junior !
Yeah, I have to say my memory is pretty good but when I'm recording, it drops by half lol. I remember watching a thing on them trying with Ring Ring the previous year then winning with Waterloo. But in my video I'm not sure lol. It's crazy to see how many great songs it took for them to get an actual hit. Their library is like 60% great songs. That's higher than pretty much anyone who has released more than 5 albums. Band relationships usually don't turn out well lol. Yeah, in life you can be not so great looking but if you possess other attributes (world class skill or talent), you can land the hottest women in the world! I have to admit that I'm 49 and my girlfriend is 24 lol. We've been dating a year and a half and she's great. This age difference is normal in Africa and Asia. It's just frowned upon in the West (I consider the west as USA/CA/AU/UK/NZ and Western Europe for the most part.)
@@dumbguydepot304 Waterloo reached number 1 in the UK when ABBA had won Eurovision . The problem was that anyone who won Eurovision wasn't taken seriously but when they released S.O.S it was clear that ABBA were capable of writing great songs..It was either John Lennon or Pete Townsend who said that S.O.S was the best pop song ever; both of those guys raved about the song.
@@dumbguydepot304 It was early 1976 and I was 9. They came to Australia to perform. They were huge. Years later, after rediscovering them through my wife, I went through their whole catalogue. Every album is enjoyable. Except, maybe, "Voyage". Gone a little flat by then. I think Benny's and Bjorn's hearts are more with Benny's folk band these days.
@@siegfriedfaust6195 I think Abba only came to AU in 1977. They made that concert movie. It looked like pandemonium. Kiss was there in 1980 and AU fans were very intense with them as well. Voyage seems so safe and dull. Its like they just came in with mostly leftovers to make up a good portion of the album. They started as folk singers so maybe thats what they preferred all along?

How did ABBA default to a guilty pleasure for everyone? They're such amazing song writers, in a league of their own.

My 2 fav albums are, though incredibly different: The Visitors and Voulez Vous.
To me most of their albums are like 8.5 - 9/10 but the lesser are like 7-8/10 so other than their newest and earlier albums they're all excellent.
The Visitors is my favorite album of all time.
It's definitely the most synthy. One Of Us is my fav. Is that the album you heard first of theirs?
Interesting review! Take your shirt off and you will probably get lots of subscribers!! 😜
I beg to differ, I think 'Shirts On' is a policy I'll have to have in force at all times. Lol thanks though.
