Bro like wtf? You literally are that guy that has 1000 stories that people like me live vicariously through you then tell other people your stories haha. You gotta start throwing some shorts on your channel even just 30 seconds with no words other than the artist.
Keep rocking and sharing, I'm very much enjoying just how many bands you see on a regular basis.

I look thru my gig books where I logged my gigs when I did sound and i forget some crazy amazing shows i did. as well as many agonizingly horrible ones.not to mention the actual drives /travel that beat the shit out of me.

1983 was a banner year for music, with 200 tracks making my final favorites and 71 making the 4-star and 5-star columns. The top songs weren't as great as in previous years, but there were *plenty* of them.
Over the Summer, NBC introduced _Friday Night Videos_ ... 90 minutes of the newest and best videos including many that made their world debut on the show. It was a suitable alternative to MTV for kids who did not have access to cable television. I usually switched over from MTV to watch the show because it played better videos. I remember phoning in to vote in some "pick of the week" contest and Dad yelling at me for "running up" the phone bill. What was it with old people and the phone bill? Like that $2 charge was gonna put us in the poor house...
This is the umpteenth re-do of my 4- and 5-star lists and I'm just gonna go with this one...

Haha we had Friday Night Videos as well. Then on Saturday Nights there was 'Good Rocking Tonight' which was our more lame version of whatever the US is doing.
Nobody had MTV except for those with the big satellite dish. My buddy Eric's Dad was a dentist so he had some new tech. We got MTV in around 1988 on their dish. We usually only watched Headbanger's Ball only as the rest was pretty much the same for the videos (remember those?) they played and what we had on here.
Midge Ure is a great musician that had him making a lot of good music on that side of the pond.
You had Mr Roboto on your fking list? I have no words.
Yeah this is around the time people were realizing how important the look of your group was.
That Space Cowboy song was interesting lol.
He has some Canadian goodness with Saga!!! Nice.
It's nice with these years I know most of the songs you list just from the name. I can see this Gary Myrick song being a hit with different production. The song is there.
You're putting I Love It Loud on your 1983 list when that was the year they put out Lick It Up? It just seems wrong lol. I'm surprised you like that song? Your tastes are vast.
You don't strike me as a Dio or Def Leppard guy either.
Its was a decent year but 1984 is stronger for sure. See you in a few hours.

You're early this week! I'm assuming the CPU fan issue has been resolved.
And I noticed 1982 got about twice as many views as your previous episodes! Way to go dumbguy!
First, story time! 1983 was a significant year for me. It was the year I got my driver's license! I knew a car was coming for me when I turned 16 in January. Dad knew what I liked and I trusted he'd pick out something I'd be happy with. I mentioned a neat little blue Subaru hardtop on the used lot at a local dealer, hoping he'd take the hint. So imagine my surprise when Dad woke me up that morning, dangling keys over my head, and led me to the driveway, where I saw a brand-spankin'-new *1983 Toyota Celica GT-S!* -- the top model with the Supra seats and wheels and independent rear suspension. I never expected a NEW car, given Mom's "used-cars-only for the kids" edict. Turns out, _Mom_ was the one who caved! She decided to take the money I made from being a child model, and college fund be damned, allowed Dad to add that to what he had planned to spend. So I'm the only one of us seven to get a NEW car when I turned 16. "Middle child" my ass...
Remind me later to tell you about my child modeling career...
It was months later when I received my first speeding ticket. I wasn't allowed beyond any of the surrounding counties without permission, and I was not allowed, under any circumstance, to drive to New York or Philadelphia. But being a teenager, I couldn't resist going to a killer house party in Mamaroneck, just outside NYC, with my besties Rob and Mike. We had to leave the party early to make curfew and I was hauling ass across the GWB, blasting Jonzun Crew "Space Cowboy" when the Port Authority Police pulled me over at the toll plaza. I knew I was cooked. I was not only speeding, but had gone _beyond_ NYC and wouldn't have made curfew anyway. Mom threw the ball in Dad's court and I was sentenced to six weeks without my car. A light punishment compared to the 90 days without wheels Timmy suffered when Mom found his "stash" in the basement. I drove the wheels off that car, taking it all the way to California for grad school.
It wasn't the only new car in the family that year. Our beloved family truckster, a golden brown Olds Custom Cruiser wagon, lovingly named "Apple Brown Betty", was replaced later in the year with a Mercury Colony Park, which was aptly, and immediately christened "Aunt Edna"...
    But I digress...
    Great thumbnail!
No real surprises from you this year. "The Trooper" and "Bark At the Moon" were my only accurate predictions, but I guessed there'd be _something_ by ONJ, and any one of Streetheart's four singles released that year. I didn't see, however, Dire Straits' "Industrial Disease", which for some reason, I thought you'd probably like. And what's this? NO CONEY HATCH? What kind of Canadian are you?
Cycle V were heretofore unknown to me. And after hearing them, wish it could've stayed that way...
    Nothing from _Thriller?_
I understand your self-imposed "one song per artist" edict, but do you allow more than 1 per artist in the case of duets?
Oh, and I'm "almost there" regarding Huey Lewis & The News, but I doubt we'll see them beyond "Heart And Soul" and "Do You Believe in Love" in my rankings. Progress, nevertheless.
ONJ is your "babe"... I had Kate Bush and Sara Dallin of Bananarama. And I swear to all that is holy, the fact that my two ex's so closely resembled them is _purely_ coincidental...
Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles. Belinda Carlisle... And my Hollywood babes of the 'day: Lea Thompson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Jami Gertz and Justine Bateman.
Sheena Easton later was certainly "performing" with Prince alright... 🍆
I think it's great the way you "switch up". Diversity is a hallmark of passionate music lovers.
You probably _did_ see "Hungry Like The Wolf" on some '83 compilation. It peaked in the US and Canada early in the year. And you're correct... "Eyes Without a Face" may have been on 1983's _Rebel Yell_ but the song and video didn't hit until the summer of '84.
It's interesting to hear an instrumental version of "Neither One Of Us". I see that Luther Vandross supplied some of the background vocals.
I struggled to find music for Dad in the 80s. He was in his 40s and all over the map. He had an unexpected love for Talking Heads and thought Big Country were one of the best bands of the decade -- bold, original and true to their Scottish roots. He was also fond of Level 42. He really tried to like U2, but just couldn't sink his teeth into them. And you were asking for trouble if you suggested any of that pathetic "metal" shlock that infested the 80s. _"Why are you showing me this, Don? Does it look like we live in a trailer park?"_ If you played Joan Jett anywhere in his presence... you lost your college money. Both he and Mom became fans of Eurythmics and Lionel Richie. Another act Dad latched onto that had us scratching our heads was The Smiths. He hated that empty "tinny" sound of most music of time and, among the 70s bands that continued into the 80s, he was most disappointed by Heart. _"It's good Power-Pop stuff... but it just wasn't _*_real_*_ Heart."_ Yet he enjoyed Aerosmith's "fun" 80s sound as much as their 70s material. His taste had become unpredictable and I just threw everything I could find his way.
I'm finishing up my favorites later today. '83 is one of those "they're all the same" years where I struggle to figure out how many stars I want to give each song, much less rank them with any real meaning.
    👍👍👍

I had a birthday party to attend so I had to get er done earlier than normal.
Yay for more views. I do believe if I stick with music (I've uploaded a work on yourself vid) then I think 70-80s is the sweet spot for overall interest.
I love how traditional your family sounded with your parents making things special like with a car on your day. Very cool. I wonder if kids in 2024 still have those desires to go get their piece of paper on their birthday? I don't think kids are as keen these days.
My best friend Eric had that exact car but in 1991! Haha, when I searched images it had the same brown that he had. First was like a 76 Mustang from that filthy era. Then a early 80's Rabbit then he got the Celica and that thing had some hop.
The child modeling story needs to be told!
You had the Vacation station wagon??? Not enough wood these days don't you agree?
I think with some of those Canadian acts, they might have had some success in your region (Ohio, NY and Penn) with playing the circuit but there were a lot of acts that were only decent in Toronto or conversely in Vancouver but never get any love from the East. I have never heard of Coney Hatch.
I had 'Wanna Be Starting Something' but it was a deep year. I had PYT and that's good enough for MJ.
Kate Bush is not very common. I had no idea who she was until my 40s. I would've assumed someone like Jacklyn Smith or what about Brook Shields? She was pretty big. Tatum O'Neill. Kristy McNichol?
Susanna Hoffs is still fking hot it's weird. Those are all decent choices. Belinda got hotter as she aged as well. That is not the norm!
I remember the whole PMRC thing with the warning label for songs etc. I remember the newscast or someone referenced 'Sugar Walls' and I had bought that 45. It was pure poppy goodness from a babe, I had to buy it. But then I had to figure out why it was bad? I'm 11 so it took asking my sister. Ugh. Sheena was wearing a yellow dress (I went to look to be sure and it's actually a shirt) in the vid, I know that 100% (Maybe I didn't know it 100%?)
That's Luther with the background vocals???? I never looked.
Level 42 with Mark King on bass. That guy has some of the most intricate bass lines to sing over of any artist in any genre or time. Geddy Lee also has some crazy vocal lines over top of a completely unrelated bass line.
The Smiths? Really? I love his trailer park question as well.

@@dumbguydepot304 views are lookin' up! Just watched your "well rounded man" video. Nice description of Dad... and a cold reminder of how his children failed to match his awesomeness. And you answered another question in our psychotic "guessing" game. There's a reason we focus on you, but I'll talk about that later...
Was your friend Eric's Celica the notchback or liftback? Mine was a white notchback. Timmy and Brady were the only kids to get a car on their birthdays. The rest of us got ours within days or a few weeks. Theresa got a '71 Grand Prix with a 455 4-bbl (Mom had a conniption fit), Timmy got Dad's Trans Am, Eric got a Datsun 240Z that he'd begged for, Brady got a Fiero, Scotty got a Ford Bronco and Nick got a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was only a year old. Spoiled brat baby of the family. Oh wait.... never mind. We only had "Aunt Edna" a few years. After i went off to college, it was just the Teddy Bears left at home and Mom didn't need such a big wagon, so traded it for a Mercury Sable wagon, which she owned forever. Dad traded that piece-of-shlt Seville for a Mercedes SEL, which we named "Murgatroyd" and was part of the family for ten years.
I drive a 2017 Grand Cherokee and I want a new car but hate everything out there. Dad drives a Lincoln Continental. And if you're headed to the Holland Tunnel on I-78 and see a big silver Buick Enclave coming at you quick in the rearview mirror, move over immediately. Veronica STILL drives like a bat out of Hell and will run you off the road.
Kids don't get excited about driving anymore because they see driving for what it is: a chore. Cars today all suck and have no character. Also, they don't see a car as a symbol of "freedom" like past generations. I think it's because they don't feel the need to escape anything. i didn't realize until I was in college what a good home life I had. So many other kids didn't, and I think having a car gave them a temporary escape from it.
"Wanna Be Startin' Something" is my favorite cut off Thriller... because it's got that old-skool MJ "Off The Wall" vibe and not that trash ass Jheri Curl MTV fodder. I'm bad to trash the whole album just because I so *HATE* the title track. I mean hate it so bad, I mute the TV when it comes on in "Revenge of the Nerds". But most of the album is pretty good... just soooooooo run into the ground.
My roommate Brian from Sarnia loved Coney Hatch, which even he admitted was probably Canada's worst rock band. They were not well-known.
To further explain my unhinged existence... I'm not attracted to women over 30. At that age, it becomes like dating Mom. Ewwww. A better explanation is that I'm simply the son of Dewey, who at 84 still pervs after women under 30. And boy can he still spit some game. Not long ago, we were in a coffee shop near Lehigh campus and he was flirting with some college girls. He walked off to go get the car and I profusely apologized to them... only to have one of them respond with, _"I bet he was hot AF when he was younger."_ with a curious grin on her face. I hate him.
The lunatics are gone for the day. Good. I'll have lunch delivered... and I get to walk around naked (like father, like son) and think about Lea Thompson doing those exercises in that dreadful Beverly Hillbillies movie...

@@dumbguydepot304 Donovan the model... and TV star.
Picture it: Easton PA, late 1969. Mom's got me in the seat of the shopping cart as she does the weekly grocery run at Pantry Pride. As she snakes her way through the aisles she notices a 30ish man with an older woman passes by a few times and keeps looking at us as he passes. On the next aisle, he commented to Mom what a handsome little guy I was. She politely thanked him then he tells her he's a professional photographer and said I was likely very photogenic. He was surprised to find out I wasn't quite 3 years old, since I looked and behaved much older. Mom took his card and went on with her shopping.
When she got home she told Dad about the incident and dismissed the guy as a perv. Dad had a different take. _"I dunno, hun. Don's a damn good lookin' kid. We get compliments all the time."_ So Dad makes a few phone calls and finds out the guy's legit and does work for some big firms like McCann-Ericson and Ogilvie & Mather. Shortly afterwards, I was doing shoots for ads, mostly toys and children's clothing.
I most vividly remember a shoot for a Nylint toys ad, because the Nylint company gave all the boys in the shoot an impressive set of toy trucks. Oh and in case you ever wondered, yes we got to keep the clothes and toys we modeled for. Mom's favorite was me in a 1971 Macy's "Back to School" ad, in my stylish little neckerchief outfit and briefcase. I was only 4 but I looked much older. I was one of several kids on a playground in a TV commercial for Macy's (I think) and I remember all my relatives getting so excited to see me on television for 8 nanoseconds. I absolutely HATED the whole thing and by the time I started school, I was done with it.
But it got Mom interested in photography, a hobby she enjoyed for decades. Dad had a dark room put in the basement (the creepy part under the living room with the very low ceiling) and we weren't allowed in there. Our family photos and home movies are far better than most families. If life had gone a different direction, Mom could've reasonably become a film director. She's a big cinema and theater buff. And Dad's actually a good actor. Most drama queens are. He did little theater for many years. He's always been compared to Ryan O'Neal, but I think it's because they have the same hair. And voice. And build. And they kindasorta look alike...
And it wasn't the last time I'd be on TV. I appeared a few times, with my cousin Darren, on "Dancin' on Air", which was a local Philly show that later got picked up by the USA cable channel. I lost confidence, though, when a pretty girl I liked told me I danced like Gumby. We had one of the episodes on VHS but dumbass Brady left it in the car one day and the tape melted. I was also on "Scholastic Scrimmage", a local PBS quiz show where area high schools competed in academics. Our school rarely fared well, as my teammates failed us at every corner.
Okay, so in grade school I got picked to be on a PA Public TV show that was sort of a kiddie 60 Minutes-type news show with kid reporters from different parts of the state. I halfassed the whole thing and just did two segments, one from Dad's company and one from the railroad where my grandfather worked. The local PBS station shot the field clips and one Saturday a month I had to go down to Delaware for the studio part. Mom took me the first couple of times and waited in the lobby or went shopping, but one weekend, Dad took me, and being nosey lke he is, insisted on being in the studio to watch.
I'd complained about what an asswhole the director was, but nobody listened to kids back then. However after seeing for himself, Dad was NOT happy with the way the director and the producer yelled at us kids, calling us stupid and unprofessional. He confronted the director about his behavior and a shouting match ensued... followed by Dad punching him square in the face. We kids cheered watching that dickhead's blood flinging across the studio. He would've hit the producer too, but Dad would never hit a lady. Dad and I quickly departed, and so ended that endeavor...
