I'm 86, lol, named my first daughter Melanie, born 1964, after Jackie Mclean's composition. Delighted this exciting jazz of my youth is continuing with vigour, swing, cyncopation, innovation BEYOND! LOVE IT .. Alan, retired UK jazz drummer
Hi Emmet, I have seen all your concerts in this series. To me Sarah is the most emotional sax player you have ever had. Certainly the most interesting talent of her. I'd like to listen to it again with you. Thanks
I'm 83 and in 1955, I wasn't ready for Jackie Mac but I sure as hell am now. I can't seem to stop listening to this performance. Love this group and Sarah is always outstanding. Thanks for all your playing and doing, Emmet.
I hear a bit of Coltrane, a bit of Cannonball Adderley, definitely a combination of both and a couple of others I'm not placing yet. This means she has her own sound, yet you hear the influences appear which means she's there in spirit of her biggest influences. Y'all just killing it, I can take a whole lot more of this!
She has Jackie McLean's aggressive tone and take-no-prisoners approach. Very impressive and I'm thrilled to see such a talented person influenced by Jackie, who in many ways I've always seen as kind of the essence of jazz. I always thought that McLean shared Bud Powell's sense of agitated delirium - the opposite of cool players like Chet Baker, who I also love - different people are great in different ways.
Wow what an energetic and well played performance. About half through the piece I was wondering how they can end this convincingly. And they did. Everybody knew where they were in the piece and were able to coordinate the accents til the end. ♥️
This is an _excellent_ suggestion! Your music is always great, but the sessions' mic-ing & balance fails to do justice to the musicians. Even in your small space -- & sans GoBo's -- it is possible to get much better definition for the separate instruments. Please _do_ listen, e.g., to "Rondo à la..." (on Time Out) and/or "Let me tell you 'bout..." (Leo Parker). Note the layers & "crispness"! ¶ Keep up these terrific releases: Appreciated! [me=pro. recording engr.w/gray beard]
You nailed it. But I would prefer if she would not take over the habit to stay hanging under the just intonation, and always play on the low side of the note. For mr McLean it was a forgivable habit, but should it be part of an imitation?
@@LavenderTownWasTaken It's just my opinion, and I use the techinical features that UA-cam puts to my disposal. Indeed, I should kneel for her and you and ask permission to utter a humble opinion.
I'm a big Jackie fan,Sarah you sound good playin some nice ideas, maybe less piano would be good, would be nice if piano just dropped out at some point.

I actually got to play one of Jackie's horns. A friend of mine dated him for a period of time. Cool about your daughter's name.
It's Melonae.
She's a generational talent, what a gift your music is Sarah, thank you!

Yes the tone may be Jackye's influenced. but the lines are all hers. I hope to hear more from Sarah. Many more.

Sounds amazing. I was named after this song ❤

Sarah has a wonderfully developed tone on the alto saxophone, and I look forward to the chance to see her perform live in the future.
Holy shit! Sarah’s sound is so sickkkkkkk
Sarah Hanahan's tone >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Sarah is absolute killin!
Her voice has that classic Blue Note records vibe, with hints of Jackie McLean and Ornette Coleman shining through.
Great Quartetttt!!!! Sarah just fantastic.
I can listen to this forever!

I’m sure Jackie Mc has a big smile listening to this.

i’d suggest putting that drum mic above the cymbals, they sometimes get lost in these mixes and you might hear the whole kit a lot better👍

She’s most def influenced by Jackie McLean ... she shapes her lines just like he would - keep swinging!

Well she did go to the McLean Institute of Jazz 😉
@@robertgerard7055 you’re right Robert she should’ve checked in with you before playing the set, to make sure her stylistic choices were cool with you
@@robertgerard7055 She would probably prefer that you shut the F up and just enjoy the music.

Whoa! This is some heavy shit. Sarah plays here ass off as do all of you.
bassist really feeling the ground in those socks (:
The only thing I can say is this is boss
Sarah, i think Jackie would be of you. you really burn!
Jeff Schneider on drums 😂

knockout
And she knows how to build a solo which is something you don’t see much these days.
If by building a solo you mean starting strident and keeping that sane vibe throughout a too long solo, then I agree - she does.

This is genuinely a disgusting comment and you should feel ashamed.
Playing this tune fast and frenetic may be difficult but it doesn't necessarily make it good or engaging.
Wrong
