Not unplayable, but compared to k/b & mouse, a controller has **severe** aim speed and turn speed disadvantages!! I've tried a pad on Doom Eternal, even with max sensitivity it sucks ass. Third person shooters are great with a pad tho!
You know those classic bad guys from nobility that pick an absurdly badass champion to represent them while they sit around being mediocre at best, and end up grandstanding over their champion’s might as if it was their own? That’s this comment. Controllers are practically built for hack and slash or platforming games, as the first games were built around those genres and controller design continued from there. The fact that SmvR can play DOOM: the most controller unfriendly game I’ve ever played and make it look easy on nightmare mode showcases and incredible amount of skill and dedication on his part.

I agree with you that smvr is godlike here and most console players could never do this but its not like every pc gamer could reach this level either is it? Me too, but it just takes practice. After my second UV playthrough, my movement, aiming and overall flow are damn good but I still fumble weapon-switching at times, which is the key to getting to that "next level" with all the multi-weapon combos. Getting better and better but tired of the game at this point, after getting all the secrets on my last run and doing the master level. I am sure that I'd be replaying it many times over the years, but will be re-learning the ropes each time and not getting to that "next level". :) Maybe if I was interested in multiplayer...

I just finished a Nightmare run, disabling "empowered demons", ignoring the Slayer Gates and enabling "Sentinel Armor" on some boss fights and still fumbled with weapon switching when I needed it the most, such as fighting Marauders. I then saw this one incredible player's video on the importance of "quick switching" combos, where he makes a very strong point for it and he then did another video where he talks about his exact key bindings, which gave me some great ideas. Basically, he leaves the shotgun, heavy cannon, plasma and rocket at 1-4 keys and then uses the mouse for the super weapons. I especially liked the mouse-wheel up and down for ballista and supershotgun. That should make wrecking the Marauder very fast and easy! I had already rebound the chainsaw, crucible and BFG to Alt, Ctrl and T keys, respectively and that made a huge difference for me. I've been using the mouse-wheel click for grenades. On my Nightmare run, I really took advantage of being able to fire an ice grenade, switch to frag and lob two of those (after I got the 2 frags in a row upgrade) into the crowd of frozen enemies. It's pretty devastating, especially with fully upgraded ice and frag grenades. I don't play multiplayer though and am tired of the campaign already, after 4 playthroughs one after the other. Maybe I'll master these quick-switching combos when Ancient Gods comes out though! Plus, I am sure that I'll be replaying the campaign many more times over subsequent years, as it's definitely one of my all-time favs!

I mean… this is basically a pro player right here. U can’t really compare the average player (especially on their first play through which is where most complaints stem from) to this absolute chad
Practice and getting used to the gameplay will make any difficult experience trivial.
For the most part I find this enemy tedious, i think that while he can be beaten fast, he still requires you to stop and wait for him to attack.
If Doom is about aggression, and constant momentum to survive, why have an enemy that forces you to wait for him?
@@sirdogith3783 It doesn't really matter. When you're as good as me, you can kill him in 5 seconds flat. It's really no big deal. Certainly not something worth making a video complaining about, like i've seen many youtubers do. Besides the game doesn't force you to wait for him. If you fire an ice bomb above his head, it'll distract him, which gives you the opportunity to fire 2 rocket bursts at his back. No waiting required there. Technically tyrants make you wait for them because they're bullet sponges. They take more than 4 lock on bursts to kill, which means you can kill a marauder faster than you can kill a tyrant. So there's no need to complain.

This level on Nightmare was quite challenging, that room around the 13 minute mark especially. Interesting to seem them pit you in that sort of old 2016 style of arena when almost every other one has way more verticality. Love how you breezed by it and used the power up for the room just after it. If you can play without the hud better than go with that, either way it's amazing to watch. I cannot say this enough but that gold skin is amazing.

I remember the devs wanted to prove that this game is perfectly playable on consoles, by chosing the highest difficulty and play the game (it was the other master level) with a controller.

There is an entire learning curve required when playing this game on controller. I still haven’t been able to play the game on nightmare difficulty yet, and I have done several ultra violence runs

By the time the Marauder fight started with a minute left before the end of the video, I knew Smvr was gonna absolutely STYLE on him.
If you blood punch a baron of hell, it will destroy most of its armour and it will be significantly easier to kill. This is different from how cyber mancubus work though as their armour only shows at the front when the baron is it all over.
Thought this might be a nice tip :)

If you reached Sirgun, you must have mastered all the Valkyries fight by the time. The only problem with this fight is that she has an incredibly huge health bar and you need a lot of patience for wearing her health down whilst avoiding her unblockable attacks! This fight would have been a fun fight if she had health bar like the other Valkyries
