My favorite Christmas Carol by Home Free. I normally dislike non-traditional arrangements of carols, but this is incredible. You're right; Austin's voice just floats above in the heavenly realm. Every member has a moment to shine. Adam's beat boxing is undefinable. (You know the beat boxing is going to be great when the beat boxer is front and center!) One of HF's best. And yes Adam arranged it. HF almost didn't record it because it was a difficult arrangement. So glad they did!
You really want to hear Mary Did You Know before you decide on a fave...every time I hear another new song, it becomes my favorites! Love your reactions and know that you are loved and never alone.😍
There is no other arrangement of this song better than this. Adam's arrangement is just the best. I love this. Another homfredian gem. Don't miss Tim's 5- octave drop on the word "gold." These men are unparalleled.
This is by far my favorite version of this song -- the arrangement is spectacular. And I doubt you need to apologize to Home Fries for having to listen to portions of the video more than once!
Adam arranged it. It’s incredible. One of my favorites. I don’t know how the ice didn’t fall down on them with Tim’s low notes. Just so creative. There are so many good Christmas songs. Mary Did You Know, What Child is This, Auld Lang Syne (more for New Years). Enjoy!🥰
Matt - You HAVE to go to Chris Rupp's UA-cam channel and find him, featuring Home Free, singing What Child Is This! He's Adam's brother and they started HF. When Chris left, Chance took his place. All SIX of them got together for this beautiful Christmas Carol! It's Amazing! 💕
Me too! I don't think Austin can sing, without that big beautiful smile. Serious songs aside, the whole group is mesmerizing, when they are all singing with hugh infectious smiles. They definitely can turn a crappy day into happiness.
This was arranged by Adam Rupp the beatboxer. I loved the ice castle being in this video. Truly enjoy watching your reaction to this song. Glad to see you back.
Adam did arrange this one.! It is so brilliant..and really I do not get tired of hearing it. (When they do it...) I think Home Free made me like Christmas music more than anyone else. Home Free manages to interpret the songs so well. Adam captured the joy of the story so well ...a story being told from person to person. Exciting news.. and they definitely deliver it! Mary Did You Know is a great one too. They really nail the storytelling vibe in that one too.
Where do I start? I love your message on every reaction. Life is stressful but more so during the holidays. My first impression was echos in caves but it kept building from there. Warmth in the coldest of places. It takes all of us taking care of ourselves and each other! That is why I love Home Free! That is what I love about your channel. Thank you for sharing. Keep the message of hope and love alive! g
Yes!! I've been waiting for you to watch this one. I was especially looking forward to your reaction to Tim's dragon note on "gold"....and you did NOT disappoint! 🤣 This is hands down my favorite Home Free song; not just Christmas, but of all of their gems. Adam's arrangement is top tier, and everyone sounds amazing, especially Tim's various notes that were in danger of shattering that ice. 😄 And speaking of that ice castle, it is indeed man-made. They make one every year here in Minnesota for our Winter Carnival, and they are beautifully lit (as you can see). Great reaction brother!
Not sure if someone already said this but Chris Rupp does a reaction to this video and kind of talks some behind the scenes and it’s actually pretty cool and interesting. Might be something cool to check out.
Here's Adam's original introduction to this that got removed from the video description to be replaced by their standard boilerplate tour schedule: On the surface, this arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" sparks the imagination with different musical themes, and brings life to several different scenes or imagery about the birth of Christ. However, a deeper understanding of the song reveals a call for peace in a chaotic violent world under the simple truth preached by Christ: love. Originally written during the Cuban missile crisis, a parallel can be drawn to any time when the world needs a reminder to love not hate. The theme of competing voices is echoed in the execution of the 4 different vocal parts that come to clarity at the 4th verse and unify with the same message in 5 octaves: "Listen to what I say. Pray for peace, people everywhere." - Adam Rupp
This is one of my favorite Christmas arrangements by Home Free. Adam Rupp did this and the others, though they loved this, they decided they were not sure how many more they wanted to do of his arrangements. However beautiful they are, they are also very difficult and very precise in how they are done. He is very gifted. I am so glad to see you back and at peace with the world. Continue to take care of yourself and we will keep watching along with you.
Your descriptions of the vocal effects was so poetic! You're right, the beatboxing at the beginning does sound like stepping on crisp snow. Thank you again for your reactions and commentary! Now get some rest 'cuz if you don't take care of you, no-one else can!
LOL... I've noticed that he does that, usually with his palm down. It's hysterical to me that Geoff Castellucci (of Voiceplay) also does this when he's headed for a really low note, but with his palm up.
He’s so respectful and informative. I appreciate everyone sharing their health issues especially at the holidays! He tells all about his health issues What a brave man to share your weaknesses to help others because we all have mental health issues that can hold us back or prevent our lives from being as perfect as we would like it to be. You appreciate HF talents and I too appreciate their work and talents. Their creative work is always phenomenal. Thank you for pointing out your thoughts for us to appreciate. Great thoughts about their work’s meaning and sounds from Adam to make it more memorable and beautiful! Tim is awesome as usual and I agree it sounds like he’s trying to shatter the ice with his bass. Austin , Chris and Rob’s vocals do provide warmth to the music filmed in the cold
Love your reaction. Now you know why I watch this six times. Once for an overall impression, and then five times more, focusing on each member in turn. Brilliant.
So glad you finally got to this one! It is my favorite Home Free song, and absolutely the best version of this song. Although everyone does an amazing job here, my favorite part is all of Tim's very low notes!
I love to watch you experience these Home Free songs! Your reactions are so genuine and it's clear that you think about how they make you feel. I look forward to watching you experience many more of their songs.
Great reaction. For me one of the best arranged songs, or perhaps the best, of Home Free. So impressive! The so great harmonies, the sound effects, colors, etc. in such a beautiful but cold environment. Yes, you're right., Home Free brings warmth! When I saw and heard this for the first time, I did repeat it a few times. Just amazing. That's why I (and I think many others) requested it There were times when I felt lonely. That was when my partner was still alive and claimed me. Fortunately, I knew I was in the heart of my family. That's why I continued. Now I am alone, but not lonely. I regularly see my family and know that I can lean on them
@@mattsreacts That's right.😁 I spend a lot of time on UA-cam because I feel like I'm not alone.☺️ The love for music brings a certain connection. Especially the music of Home Free and Avi Kaplan has also helped me through difficult periods. 🥰 When my partner was alive I didn't get the chance to do that. He seemed to be jealous of everything and everyone. So for me being alone is also freedom. And I don't just listen to music, I feel it.🤗
How the heck did I miss this? Adam's arrangement is, for me, absolutely the best arrangement of any Christmas song ever. I'm not a big fan of Christmas music, but THIS I listen to all year long. I did get a little chuckle during your intro when you said you hoped Tim was going to go deep. Check. Chris Rupp has an interesting video on his channel where he talks about making this video. And always remember that you are loved and appreciated. Have a great weekend.
Glad you’re back, and I knew you’d love this one, Matt! I believe this not only showcases their harmonizing, but each person’s individual talents, as well. I also figured you’d be blown away with Tim’s low notes! Great reaction, and I know you’ll listen to it several more times to really dig into all the intricate parts to this - the first time you hear it, it’s really hard to follow all the vocals. I listen to it year round. Try Mary Did You Know. PTX also does it, but Home Free does it as only they can. And Tim will blow you away in that one, too. For something on the funny side, check out Cold Hard Cash (for Christmas), which I believe was written by Austin…. Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer is pretty cute, as well. Winter Song is another of my personal favorites (though it’s not really a Christmas song), and Chance’s lead on it is pretty special, IMHO. So many good Christmas songs by Home Free, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them. Keep ‘em coming, keep your stick on the ice, and take care of yourself!
