The biggest mistake people make when rebuilding older vintage engines they never replace the crank seals !

Pull the bottom end out and replace the crank seals. Check the crank bearings. You'll be glad you did when it's all done

I think the older units cylinders are sleeved so re -sleeving might be an option. But the mag side jug May be beyond that. Great project Brother can’t wait to see what trouble you guys get into. I agree with some of the comments on the crank seals and if you want reliability it’s something you should consider it’s already torn down what’s a few more bolts especially when you already have the knowledge. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I second on the crank seals. If your that far down you might as well do them or they'll bite you in the a$$ later.

Most of the time on these older skidoos when the PTO side burns up it means your fan belt is worn down too much or broken

The famous Fish House Puller in Minnesota years ago of course. When fish houses were actually built out of lumber and heavy as heck. Alpines pulled many other things that got stuck also. I remember our local resort had two of them. Great project!

Naw man, no jug needed just bottle hone that thing. Those 250 and 340 twins are beauty and reliable. My single siezed up last year i had a brain fart and put straight gas in one delightfully fun night. Next day took a block and hammer and smacked the piston free, pulled the jug honed it and put new rings on her. Shes hasnt missed a beat since

I recently rebuilt a 1979 Polaris t x 340 and the cylinders were Crome plated. and I had to get steel sleeves instead and they worked great all last year.

Kinda looks like aluminum transfer on that cylinder wall, take some pool cleaner acid ( muriatic acid) and put it on the cylinder wall to clean it up.
If you can find over sized pistons it may be best to bore it out anyways to get the cylinder back into round and a fresh cross hatch. Make sure the ports are champhered and wash the cylinder well with hot soapy water.
    CRANK SEALS ARE A MUST
Bolt the intake manifold on before you tighten the cylinders down to help prevent an air leak.

I’m pretty sure Matt knows how to rebuild a 2 stroke engine🤪

@@brucewunderlich405 he well know but it does not hurt to give some pointers, if not for him than maybe it will help someone else reading the comments.

I might have a couple carburetors from an Alpine. Unless they were thrown away. I would have to investigate.

When the longest parts of the rebuild are the parts hunt and delivery 🤣

You could replace that cylinder. but that may not be your best route. You can board those cylinders out. I believe you can go like five or six over. If you’re going to replace one pisted you gonna replace both anyway. might as well as Pour it out and get a little more out of it lol

Crank seals and rebuild the fuel pump/carb. I've seen the vacuum side of the pump suck fuel though the tired diaphragm = what you have going on!!

I think it's a '72. Look at the VIN plate at the right rear tunnel.....Post the # & I can tell you.
