I first heard it from Peter Lloyd-Lee, but I think making sections of track not parallel to each other or to the benchwork/room is always a good thing to add interest to the layout. I wish I could do more of that on mine.
of the two motorman? Each are installed in a panel also available at Iowa Scale Engineering - includes a switch to choose system to use (DCC or Motorman)

I have the same issue with whining and noise. I think the bronze bearings and the axle gears on mine are worn and need to be replaced.
