"Nobody can dictate your bandwidth" I love this!! Sewing is a huge form of self-care for me, maybe even more so when I'm feeling a lot of complicated emotions. Life is complicated and messy, sewing helps me feel in control of something. Thank you for sharing this book!
Thanks so much, Casey! That's exactly my experience -- it's something to feel like I have some agency and control, even when my energy is low and all I can do it glue a pattern together. And it keeps the doom scrolling at bay!
This was a great book review. Great topic to add to your channel. Love the corset top-and the explanation of wearing garments that hug us. We could say the corset top is the human equivalent to the pet “thunder shirt.” Little levity to the truth that we all went too long without hugs-and at times still hesitate to give them since not sure if they’ll be appreciated. Again, great review. And, very well said in the beginning-how we can’t give when our own cup is empty. Probably most of your viewers watch you because you are so passionate about your creativity-I know I do 😊. So keep it up.
This was my first time to watch one of your videos (I think). Not sure how you could lose subscribers from this video, bc in my case you would gain one! I loved your sensitivity and your presentation style. Adding to your intro about global conflict concerns--yes, I have been feeling so helpless. But I realize, sewing is always there for me as a place where I get to call ALL the shots. Sewing can be a helpful haven in a world that feels out of control; we get to make decisions and control the outcome, even if it's "just" a pillow (or hat, or quilt).
I couldn't agree more. And thank you for the support! I think some people judge and assume that spending time in a safe, protected, creative space means you're sticking your head in the sand, and that's just not the case. Every battery needs a recharge, especially human ones! ☺
thank you for sharing and making this video. So eloquently put! the world is pretty ghastly at the moment, and crafting or sewing is not frivolous. I love book reccies, and am looking forward to reading my local library's copy soon. all the best! xx
This deserves a lot more attention - elegantly and thoughtfully expressed.
Thank you so much, Polly! I agree - I think a lot of people would get a great deal from this book. ☺

I appreciate that so much. 💜 And the pet thunder shirt is a perfect analogy. That's exactly what it is!
