My husband is disabled, we have had a very loving relationship over 20 years. He is brilliant, funny, loving and my wonderful partner. As a nurse I have been able to help him in a lot of ways, as a brilliant engineer, he has helped me. 🥰 we are both fragile now and still support each other, because love is love.

She is absolutely inspiring, I was thrown from a horse at 12 years old and had a fractured skull, bleeding of my brain and a CSF leak. This resulted in years of surgeries, illnesses and mis-diagnosis’s!!!! These types of injuries can alter you or make you more grateful for every day, I may not have had the same outcome but watching this reminds me of how close I could have been to these same types of challenges, and new ways of life! You are a miracle Sofia!!!!

Those numbers, 40 and 30 are very interesting. I'm paraplegic actually triplegic in my mid 30s feel little hope of surviving long because of the progressive nature of the disease (i don't want to call it my disease, because i dont ownthe disese i have). But one thing I say I recently found love, we are from different nations and different cultures, different language, she's not disabled, she gives me the desire to live long for her. We'll are planning for wedding this year end. An other interesting fact I'm a health care professional and still in school she is from a very different background. World is an interesting place depends on the way we look at it. Wish all good luck, we all need some amount of luck. Cheers!

Labels like "disabled" often cause people to, sadly, look down on people and try and put limits on them. Sometimes people do this anyway, but "labels" make it worse. It its better to say something like "Joe has a disability." You can then say what the disability is and information about the disability. Furthermore, people often associated the word "disabled" with a physical problem that they can tell someone has just by looking at them (i.e. a wheelchair; a cane; a guide dog). There are many kinds of disabilities and they aren't all readily able to be seen by the eye (i.e. autism; seizure disorders).

Sophia and her family are very privileged to be able to build a fully accessible home, own an adapted vehicle and have access to the best neuro-physio resources from day one of her injury. For the average disabled person, we do not have access to these needs due to the high price of equipment. The financial burden of disability is a huge barrier, and needs more attention from the media.

The energy management thing you said really struck a chord with me. I have pretty severe post-treatment / chronic / whatever you want to call it Lyme disease and I have to manage my energy very carefully. There are days that I barely have the energy to take care of myself and if I use that energy elsewhere it can be a very bad thing.

I hope you like Sophia can still have a fulfilling and happy life.
I would imagine India would be a hard place to live with this type of injury (depending on what type of life you had prior but I know India can be a hard place to live) how did you become a quadraplegic? It's fine if you don't want to answer. 💓
