    Thanks for this video Seb, I find it really useful as I am trying to improve my setup and workflow.
    One suggestion which might improve your workflow is to use the Insta360 Smart Remote.
    I currently use the Insta360 One X with the Smart Remote fixed just below the B handles on my Zeno. This allows me to stop/ start the recording whilst remaining in control of the glider. I start a new video segment at the beginning of each glide and if something interesting has just happened. At the start of each segment I do a time check and describe if there was something interesting on the previous segment. When I come to review the footage I listen to the first few seconds to remind myself where I was in the flight and pick up on any interesting footage.
    The hyperlapse seems considerably more stable on the Insta360 One R than the One X - I think I will switch to the One R.
    Q. How long does it take you to produce your videos; in relation to the duration of the flight and the finished video ?
    Currently it takes me about 3x the footage duration to create a video.
    Q. What software do you use for video editing (after you have extracted the flat video using the Insta360 app) ?
    Like you I use the Insta360 app on my phone and then Kinemaster also on my phone for the video editing.
    I'm always open to feedback as to how I can improve my flying setup and make the edit workflow more efficient.

    I mounted mine camera on the side to the selfie stick. Towards the end I attach the selfie stick to the karabiner, and tied the end to the speed bar. When I launch, it's on the side, and then pushing on the speed bar brings the camera in to position.

    Thanks mate that's great. You make awesome use of this in your videos.
    I have not been able to make a wifi connection between my phone and the camera, so I transfer the files to the SD card manually. Maybe this is a good strategy though because I haven't had dropout issues or app freezing issues (I'm using Insta360 ONE X app, there are other versions I noticed). I have also been using the Time Lapse mode on the camera, so I don't have the ability to slow the footage down to real time, but it takes much less space on the SD card and that also makes the editing process easier. However, it seems the camera has frozen at times and the files have been corrupted. The model I've been using is the Insta360 ONE X, which is a different form factor to your ONE R.

    Good day Sebastian, thank you so so much for sharing your know-how to setup the camera including all the useful hacks! Evers since Chrigel Maurer's epic XC flight with his brother from the small Matterhorn which was filmed with several go pros and from helicopter I've been banging my head on finding a good way to film in flight. We see so amazing views up there and it's so disappointing to not be able to share these magic moments with friends and family who don't fly. Will definitely copy your setup 1:1 !
    You film a lot and mentioned the camera does freeze sometimes and you loose the footage as it obviously stops filming. How often did this happen compared to successful recordings? Have you got any assumptions such as low temperatures at high altitude or software bugs of the cam ?
    I'm most amazed you edit all on your phone. Would never have guessed. Your flights look all so professionally edited. Very cool!

    • @sebastianbenz5336
      @sebastianbenz5336  3 роки тому +1

      It doesn't happen too often, I can't give exact numbers, maybe 1 in every 20 or so. I have noticed it tends to overheat if you are in a hot environment, usually that is not a problem during the flight (for obvious reasons). Other reasons are probabbly software related. So overall its not too bad, but annoying when it happens.

    Thanks for answering all our questions, it's so nice! Maybe I have a few more concerning the storage, how big is your SD card? In which quality do you shoot the raw footage? And can you film continuously for a long XC flight like 10H or is the card full after some time?

    • @sebastianbenz5336
      @sebastianbenz5336  3 роки тому +12

      I use a 512 gb micro sd. Which allows roughly for 12-14 h recording time in 5.7k. So no problem for a loong XC flight. The power consumption is quite high, on a 10 h flight the camera + phone manage to empty a 20000 mah powerbank.

    Wird bei einem langen Flug die Filmdatei in mehreren Blöcken gespeichert oder hast du eine einzige Datei vom ganzen Flug?
    Bei der Gopro Max habe ich immer 8min Blöcke und muss jeweils den letzten Bildausschnitt in der nächsten Datei penibel suchen, um die Aufnahmen wackelfrei zu verbinden. Was ziemlich aufwändig ist, wenn es ein langer Flug war (40+ Dateien). Habe noch keine schlaue Lösung dafür. Wird Zeit das es wieder richtig losgeht und neues Rohmaterial dazukommt ;)

    First, many thanks for all what you share. Your flights in incredible sceneries and absolutely valuable comments are saving a lot of us hours of experience. Thanks too for this explanation about your camera setup. Personnally I use a Gopro Max and I hate the stress of installing it while flying. So I fix everything before take off (i trained at home) except I keep the stick short to avoid incidents with the lines. I start filming then I launch and once I'm safely out I just have to extend the stick.

      @@sebastianbenz5336 I trained at home under a bar. First by sitting as when in flight then by standing and trying to observe and memorize how it fits. It took me several tries to do it right and sometimes I still need to adjust a bit after take off.

      @@sebastianbenz5336 one useful trick I forgot to mention when I standup at take off is to insert one foot in the cocoon, bend the chest a bit over, grasp the carabiners and push them forward keeping about 1 meter between themselves. This reproduces vertically the cocoon shape it will have horizontally and helps inserting the stick.
