David Bowies 1977 album 'Heroes' is an enduring classic very much inspired by the times it was made in but also its location. It’s the middle album in his Berlin trilogy, it is in fact the only album entirely recorded in Berlin and for the most part written there also.

5:48 The vocal mikes setup makes Bowie's voice sound more distant - the louder he has to sing, the deeper his voice sinks into the mix, so that finally he is shouting across a wide gulf. This is also a direct illustration of the theme of separation in the song - you can just about imagine him calling across the Wall.

Great work. It's one of my favourite albums, due to the mixture of synth, f/x and sonic textures, such as Fripp's guitar work.
It's odd that Robert Fripp didn't receive a writing credit on the title track, considering his triple solo is a big part of the sound.

I’ve been fortunate to visit Hansa. The ballroom has an amazing ambience. As a huge Bowie fan I was moved to be able to look out of the same window he saw his ‘lovers’ kissing.
