- After I was given a free weedeater I realized the line dispenser was messed up some and the line would fly out whenever it felt like it. Well I found the Ugly Head Trimmer and thought I would give it a test. I have to say I am impressed but watch and enjoy for yourself.

This is Hands-Down the BEST Trimmer Head available on the market! I was really surprised on how well the yellow plastic blades worked and how long they last. I live in Texas and I cut down all of the native grasses with this head. Its amazing how quick and simple it is to replace the strings. I use a Titanium String which last much longer...and I pre-cut the strings and put them in a Fanny Pack so I have them with me out in the field..Super Easy, works better than any other on the market!
I also like this one a lot .The light weight frame is great. There is another string attachment that I like called the badgerhead. Its a bit stronger when it comes to hitting rocks.
You SOLD me on this one and I’ll tell you...I am SO Impressed with the way this thing gets the job done. I had a whole field of “Mexican Hat” flowers/Weeds..this thing cut it all down in no time at all. Extra blades are inexpensive (WalMart). I keep a supply of them in a Fanny Pack, along with some pre-cut string (Titanium 0.095”).
I have used the attachment for years and it has been great. I am now using a product called Badgerhead that works well too.
i am tired of replacing line on a trimmer. Thanks this helped in making my choice.
Why would anyone give a down vote for such an informative video? Is it because of the product?
Not too bad. The string is really putting a heavy load on your engine and alot of strain and heat in your clutch. As a professional lawn care business owner and worker. You really need a Husqvarna 525L they are an absolute beast of a trimmer. We run the heck out of them and and they just keep going. They are very powerful machines and I think you would absolutely love it. Light weight, powerful rugged and very reliable. If you don't get one you are missing out. It is one of our favorites out on the job.
Severely disappointed at first but after learning a couple things It's ok. Broke two blades in the first 5 minutes on horse weed and grass that was about 3 foot tall. Don't even think about woody stuff. Horse weed stalks were probably up to 1/2 inch thick. Smaller ones up to 1/4" were ok. First thing I learned was keep the RPMs down. Spinning at full speed it seems the shock of hitting a thick weed broke the blade. I also found that the blades did much better after they wore down a bit of a curved edge on the tip. That let them slice rather than grab the weed stalk and I could run up to higher RPMs. Third thing is go at the weed stalk head on, jabbing forward. Sweeping and coming from the side grabbed and pulled the cutter into the weed. It does not cut through the stuff like butter. Thick clumps of tall grass, also go slow. It's a lot of work, more work than I hoped. A metal blade would do the job a lot faster but we are SO dry in California I don't want to start a fire with a spark off a rock. This at least won't do that and I was able to get it done once I figured those things out.
Good points. I have used this as my main trimmer head for some time now and I really like it for the 3 string option. I dont really use the blades anymore. I was able to weed a hill 40 feet by 30 feet with one set of strings. Hard to find another head that can give those results.
I love these heads only $30 and you can switch between clearing brush and using string in 10 seconds plus the string lasts way longer then any bump feed I've used
thanks for posting this video. I followed the steps to install on my Craftsman 26cc two cycle trimmer weed wacker. I install it as tight as possible, but then after running for a few minutes the head flies off. I tried different setups then shown here and also even using the bolt that came with the original head, nothing works, very frustrating.
Great video...very instructive. I saw the Ugly Head at Lowes and felt it would be an easy replace ment for the sorry bump head that came on my Troy Bilt string trimmer. Looks like I made the right choice according to your video.
I used this weedeater head the other day for about 45min before the string failed. I have really enjoyed using this. Way better than the head that came on my weedeater.
Thanks for the sharing! It helps a lot when I am considering to replace the current trimmer line spool. Did the blades give a more powerful cut than the lines or they were similar?
Will this work with a Milwaukee Fuel electric trimmer ? If not, what will ?
The head seems to work quite well. I believe the black plastic cup that the nuts and bolts were in is supposed to go above the head to prevent grass from wrapping around the shaft.
+Hardwood Hollow's Beyond Bushcraft Skills Channel it works so very well! I had to use the old style the other day and it reminded me of how much I enjoy this new style. The cup does go above as you say.
Nice review, but I highly recommend using ear protection when using power equipment, especially gas powered string trimmers. Those are loud as hell. If not, you’re going to be very hard of hearing by the time you’re 60.
Oh that was an old video. If you look closer you will find that I am wearing orange ear plugs. I am a big fan of hearing protection.
Be careful when those blades break when you hit something hard and pieces of them go flying. Do not use them wearing shorts or thin pants.
This happened to me! It landed in a piece of plywood like a ninja star 😳
which trimmer is best to use with ugly head hybrid thanks
It almost looks like you used straight gas instead of mixed but I guess you must be using synthetic oil which has less color? If not oh well you're in for a surprise.
It was an off brand so no blue color like the good stuff.
Land to House That's what I thought sorry I didn't want to bother you in any ways but I thought if you were actually using pure gasoline and read my comment on time that maybe it would save your engine... Anyways my mix gasoline is synthetic and the company actually puts a smell in it. It smells like grapes! Awesome stuff too. Purple colour, synthetic, fuel stabilizer, antifreeze to minus thirty degrees Celsius. It's made by Sinto Racing. If ever you see it grab it it's just that good and thanks for your review I ordered that exact head for my trimmer.
Steve Guerin No, he is using a 4 Stroke Engine as opposed to a 2 Stroke..only 2 strokes need to have the oil/gas premixed.
How do you get the ugly head back off
Good review, well done.
Thank you.
Great review, plus I learned how to appropriately load string to this as one was given to me as well👍
Had a friend back in Iowa made blades for cutting heavy stuff out of old hacksaw blades, kinda dangerous if your to close..lol..but they bolted on the head, in pairs only, unlike the Ugly Head..Nice for your needs !!
Barton Robinson I can see those hacksaw blades being dangerous. What if they come off in mid cut? Look out.
lol..That's not the first time that was said, to everyone even remotely close to him when he was "Cutting Up" with them. Never seen one come off and he never had one break off..alot of science in the manufacturing I guess !!
Until that one time it does come off. . . and so does the neighbors cats head.
lol..well if memory serves me right, neighbor is a dairy farmer and had a multitude of cats, loosing one would be not an issue, maybe give the rest of the free loaders the hint, EH??..
OH well in that case it's alright. haha
Very impressive with the blades, I took a look on my local amazon site but it doesn't appear to be available this side of the pond, however there are some bladed alternatives so I may well try one out. I have a 26cc weedeater also and although the line works ok it is a pain having to keep feeding it out as it breaks easily, Good review
doberfag Thanks for that I didn't realise there were different grades, I just thought they were different thicknesses, I will look out for some
Michael Collinson The line feed on my machine is all messed up and I want to the store to find a replacement and they said my trimmer was too small for a metal blade but then I found these. So impressive. Sadly Amazon here has also taken them off the .... digital shelf.
doberfag You can do a lot more with the straight shaft machine.
3 bladed "brush knife" Stihl even takes down small saplings down to the ground not cheap but the only one I use
Does anybody make a brush cutter attachment for BATTERY powered weed eaters?
I have not seen one before. I wonder if the attachments are too much for the battery? The gas powered cutters are often a lot more powerful.
I replaced my electric head with a grass gator head with a little ingenuity and a tap and die set
on the back of the box pivotrim hybrid , it say's it will work for the echo trimmer 58v and ryobi 40v-x
Badgerhead works on Kohler 80V and Dewalt 40V+ ua-cam.com/video/20IonkS_880/v-deo.html
curious as to why you're trying to cut down brush using the string and not the blades kinda backwards
Does anyone put it on Kobalt electric trimmer?
I used this on both small trimmers and the larger Stihl and it worked well on both. not sure about the Kobalt though.
Whoa, a gas-powered fidget spinner!
+FarginBastiges this was a fidget spinner before fidget Spinners were cool.
FarginBastiges I
FarginBastige
I have this and never did figure out how to add that cone part to the bottom. The instructions were terrible. Appreciate the vid though. Anyone else figure out how to add the cone part or just not necessary?
No ear protection?
I've used the blades before and there great. Can take down hog weeds and Johnson grass.
I had one of these on a Ryobi string trimmer and it voided the warranty.
I dont know about warranty here but I have been using this for two years on my Stihl fs-90 and it is great. Its nice to cut a yard on a single set of string and not worry about having to tap the line out.
Of course it avoided your warranty you are only supposed to use attachments made by the manufacturer of your trimmer during warranty
Typical manufacturer looking to get ALL of your money for product that doesn't last... It's called "Income Security" and it's a SCAM...
The blades work the best you can cut all day without stoping
The blades are great. I also like using the 3 strings. I have really put this trimmer head to the test and like it a lot.
I bought one and it did NOT hold up. Yellow blades snapped off very quickly.
I use just the strings. Works well.
keep up your good work
Thank you I will try my best.
that spacer only lasts me one season. if some of these parts were metal it would be better. they make it where it will break and you have to buy a whole new one instead of just getting a new spacer
Yes its true. Would have been nice to have a better quality part that will last a bit longer. I used this trimmer head for a few years. It has mostly fallen apart.
Its 30 bucks. Just having it last 1 summer is well worth the money. Easy to use and extremely fast to put on.
I have one of these…I only use either the blades by themselves or the trimmer string by itself. Both is just to much for a 25 cc motor.
Those blades are pretty impressive. If only they last for the price you paid.
Pidasian Hippie I cut rather large weeds for over an hour and the blades still looked good. And I hit LOTS of rocks. Time will tell how well they last.
If you worked with it for over an hour, you must have mowed down a pretty large section of your place.
Yes I actually set out to clean up the future garden spot. I am getting some trees cut soon in prep for the fence.
Looks like a good deal but for that price they should have give you several sets of blades and a roll of string for it too just my thoughts on it.Cause its made of the plastic the head is and plastic is cheap to make !!
N.E.Arkansas Trash Trucks&Lottery Yes it would have been nice to have another set of blades. I got 3 more sets for $6 but I think one set will last for some time. Like many companies they dont want to give away too much for free.
mine came with extra blades and you can buy a pack of replacements for less then $5 at home depot if you get a spool of the string they use will last longer then any bump feed I've used
Don't forget that the blades are reversible. When the teeth on one side gets dull, you can flip it over and use the other.
+Cooll Asice yes indeed ! I have gone through a few of these and flipping them does add to the life of the blade.
Trace the blades on some old butter knifes using a bit of the handle , sharpen a little , might last longer.
That is a possibility. There's also a product that already has the metal with the plastic. Probably last a lot longer
I like it,I hate weeds in my garden.
Yes weeds are annoying!
Your machine and the job are so incompatible! Get a bigger, more powerful brushcutter. Your strimmer was made for work around the garden and flowerbeds!
shouldn't the blades have their cutting edge facing the same way, and in the proper direction? Looked to me like you had a blade on backwards.
The blades are interchangeable. You can flip them around so that they can wear on both sides.
Design flaw! The threads aren’t reversed so when you hit thick grass the head flies off!
This doesn't fit my Craftsman 316711023.
I wish you had used the blades and the string at the same time. Instructions, nah never heard of 'em. ;)
Haha yes. That would have been fun.
Always is better the spool
Good-oh!
This worked well for several years!
And now I know...........Ross
Ross Sullivan Yes. . . Now we all know. haha
Land to House I've looked at these things before and never knew their worth nor wished to spend the money to find out. Thanks for the demo and the know how. No accident for my back. Just 20 years working steel and now I'm paying the price..............Ross
Ross Sullivan UA-cam is a nice place to find out about stuff from others without having to buy things for yourself. UA-cam seems like a safe place for avoiding back pain. :)
they work good if you don't keep hitting the ground with them like this guy
I have used this as my primary weeder head for 2 years now. I have really enjoyed using it.
Land to House I wonder can you get the blades with metal edges for it like the grass gator has ?
I have not seen them for this model.
Гениально
hey check us out, free demo if you email us? @landtohouse
The blades are garbage
Armor of God By Pastor Bill Taylor Sr that’s my experience as well as for the string that goes with this head. That’s why I’m here reading the comments for better ideas.
You would be more impresed if you bought the real trimmer asnd not this child's toy...
I now use a stihl fs90r. much better.
Cool..That is a beast.. I use a Husqvarna 323 r II and I'm extremely pleased. It's light but powerful.. I'm in the market for a replacement, a Husqvarna 525 RX...
if your testing stuff read the dang instrutions
twisted intentions you’re
