EQ Pedal Magic - My New Discovery!

- I never ever thought I needed EQ pedals or that much useful! I started noticing that my favorite guitar player Tom Bukovac is using a Boss EQ pedal. I own that pedal! So I am using it now! So good! Full & Big sound! PS, I always use my One Control Prussian Blue Reverb pedal. That's my favorite among many reverb pedals.

those country bends at the end were a lot of fun! I never taught myself that style of playing
Thank you!
A Good Optical Compressor should have No effect on the sound ... the *Walrus Audio Mira* is on Sale now... Lowest price it has ever been, $104 i think.
Also : *DSM Humbolt Clear Comp* much on Sale for $99 ( some new type of compressor ) ...it is said to be good for guitar....both very good, *i do not know which one is better.*
Thank you for sharing! I have too many pedals!
yes, me too ... i understand that....and that maybe one of your students out there doesn't.@@TomoFujitaMusic
@Rulgert, If you don’t have the Mira already, buy it! Got mine a few months ago over here in The Netherlands. Confronted the seller that the Mira is on sale in the USA cause it’s discontinued (which is a shame). So I got mine for €129 instead of €279 and love it big time. Always was a fan of opto style comps already instead of FET, OTA or VCA. And you’re right a good opto comp doesn’t effect your sound. I use mine to gun my sound and not to squash my sound and it provides a warmer sound also just like the original LA2A. Perfect for my needs and style of playing.
both compressors listed below, are said to have no effect on the sound.
they both transparently control the dynamics as you wish.
Thank you for sharing!
I personally feel this pedal is usually a distraction to me. If im at a jam session with other students with a random amp, being able to adjust every nuance will only cease to take away from my playing!
Thanks for sharing! I have 5 pedals on my pedal board and mostly my Prussian Blue Reverb is on. Some tunes... only reverb. My amp setting is alway same with any guitars.
It sounds way better with eq, now I need an eq pedal in my life!
Thanks for sharing!
Always interesting stuff Tomo teaches us and we’re greatful for all of it. Thank you Sir.
My pleasure! Thank you!
Tomo , your bass skills on guitar are impressive.
Thanks so much!
Check out the Source Audio EQ2. You can save 120 presets, dual channel EQ’s, use editing software if not the onboard controls etc. It’s incredible.
Thanks for sharing!
Always Grateful Sensei.
My pleasure! Thank you!
Sounds great. Eq helps a ton.
Glad to hear it! Thank you!
I use the Boss GE-7 and it really is a dual purpose pedal. I have a few guitars with different pickups and tone, and the EQ helps me dial out muddiness, or when the higher strings get that ice-pick sound, or just to bring out the mids so it cuts a bit better. You can also use the EQ as a boost pedal which is a bonus. The EQ pedal & StrobeStomp tuner are always the 1st two pedals on any board I build.
Thanks for sharing!
Yes! The musical light bulb went on when I introduced an eq to the mix!
Awesome!
Great playing Tomo!
Thank you!
Tomo, Uncle Larry (eho is my idol as well) is using new Empress Deluxe Para eq pedal. He did a video with it. Number one on my wishlist 🙏❤️
Thank you for sharing!
I love that you watch Tom , I agree that he’s an amazing guitar player and he’s even a better person.
Tom is so incredible! I am so far behind him! Looking forward to meeting him when I go to Nashville next time.
@@TomoFujitaMusic you are definitely not behind him , you two are both legends Tomo. I’m sure he’ll be star stuck when you two meet.
@@benallmark9671 Tom is so talented & very natural! I didn't have anything natural! I forced myself many things. Thanks for your kind words.
Yeah I’ve found that using a pedal for a richer low mid sound actually means you can play at lower volume and the sound can reach the whole room still. Can also mean you can have a much larger range of expression in terms of intensity and volume.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Just to remind you of the track listing on the Tomo Fujita EP: 1) Confidence Cat 2) Curry 3) Kyoto 4) Mr. Mom
Thanks so much! My EP!
Literally got one yesterday and can't belive it
Oh my! Good job!
Every amp with a loop I have had gets an eq at some point. The Tone Variations are mind boggling. Friedman,Mesa,Marshall,etc.....
Thanks for sharing
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
through my phone speaker it sounds the same, but in person I bet it's clearer
Thank you!
I was given a '68 Super Reverb with the AB763 "Blackface" circuit that was really abused. I went through it and redid most of the electronics and added my own ideas to make it sound better. I lowered the noise floor, I widened the EQ parameters, added a Master Volume potentiometer and port for a Master Volume pedal, and then I got some Eminence speakers (2x Copperhead, and 2x Cannabis Rex 10) matched for variable tone. Then I added a switch to toggle between either kind of speaker by itself or all the speakers combined. Running half the speakers allows for "attenuation" of roughly 25% of the overall volume for small venues. I plan on playing with all the speakers since I have the Master Volume now, but it sounds wonderful now.
Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Love those speakers!
Did you try a Rajin Cajun speakers? So good!
@@TomoFujitaMusic I have another cabinet that I plan on using some of those. Thanks for the input!
What kind of MV did you put in? I've got a 69 super and have been thinking about adding one if I can do it without permanent modification to the chassis. I'm leaning toward a PPIMV
Yeah, country stuffs are so much fun, could show us how do you mix major and minor pentaton?
And i'm interested in more Telecaster and Esquire content.
Thanks so much! How about this video?

I have a fairfield circuitry - shallow water on the way… you should check it out tomo :) its quite interesting.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video and story. I too was shocked by Graphic EQs effectiveness. However now I use parametric, to reduce the mud around 150hz and reduce nasal stuff around 500hz. (tune eq depending on the equipment)
Thanks for sharing!
オリジナルギターかっこいいです!

Thank you so much Tomo! Can you make a Single coil guitar sound more like a humbucker guitar with a eq pedal?
I saw a Tim pierce do this in a video. He basically cut the top 2 or three frequencies a little bit and boosted the overall volume slightly to give a hotter output.
You're welcome! It's all possible! Picking positing is so important too!
...isn't compression better than EQ for boosting? EQ just filters...
I have a lot of compression pedals but I don't need them. EQ is so awesome! Could use as a booster.
@Chris, both have their purpose. I use my opto compressor to gun my sound, not to squash it. Eq you can fine tune your tones just like on your amps, but more detailed.
Tomo is “stealing” all my stuff lol
I predict he will “discover “ the FRET WRAP next!
Oh!
People say that EQ helps you get good tone when the audio system is not good enough (at least in my country and live music coffees).
I never understand how could EQ do that... haha. Gotta learn.
Very subtle but it's so good! Thank you!
Tomo, thanks for doing this pedal video. I was wondering if you could do a video on Masayoshi Takanaka? Blue Lagoon is an amazing song and I feel you could offer a lot of wisdom on it.
-Hunter
Thanks so much! I made that video before.... Thank you!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thank you! Found it, had to search in Japanese and that got it :)
@@Hunteronix Good job!
Super - I was trying my boss bass eq last night. It seems a little quieter and more usable on my Fender Deluxe Reverb RI as opposed to the Guitar version. Seems easier to dial in.
I’d love to know what the differences are between the frequencies:
Bass 62 125 250 500 1000 2k 4k
Guitar 100 200 400 800 1600 3200 6400
Or what’s the difference between a 6 - 7 or 10 band eq in the real world.
Thanks for sharing! Nice!
Q: how many Fender Amps do you own ?
Good question! I don't even know!
@@TomoFujitaMusic can you make a 10 minute video where you pull a few of them out and give a brief history behind them ?
@@jeffandersen7397 Sure! That's possible! Thank you!
Good morning sir Tomo! You're either up late or super early! Thanks for sharing this!
Good morning! Max (cat) woke me up early! You're welcome!

I played a lot of cool stuff toward end...because no-one will watch this whole 27:27 minutes!!!
I did! 😀
@@johnfeole1971 Good job! Thank you!
I love eq's but they always take me down the tweaking rabbit hole. So instead of concentrating on playing I'm wondering what to adjust to get better tone.
I set something and never touch! My amp setting is always same!
Me, a drummer: I can't hear any difference, guitarist are weird! Lol
Thank you!
this is getting boring
