Man, I gotta say you hit it out the ball park with your Sonic Adventure review. Totally agree with you, although I did like the variety of characters to play, I still prefer to play Sonic. I don’t understand the 3D hate centered around it and SA2. Both games are amazing, and I liked them more than Mario 64. Your Shemue reviews were also on point 👍 I remember back in the day I was at home in my room, it was one of those rainy, boring days and I was just chilling playing Knuckles levels on SA2 drinking pop and eating chips. My God that so cool back then! I liked how the logo of the game and little cool animations were displayed on it.. And you could mini games on it n stuff. So cool! The batteries ran out so quick tho! 😂 Thanks for watching, Merry Christmas! 🎅 🎄

I loved the Genesis but was not that into Sega CD, 32X or Saturn at the time but holy guacamole the Dreamcast blew me away when I saw how games looked on it in stores. Love at first sight 😂
My experience with Shenmue 2 was exactly the same, word for word, even down to finding it at the local Gamestop store and getting the converter disc, along with the magical feelings of playing it. It's in my top 5 favorite games ever made!
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 Almost! It was a month before my birthday which was around Easter in April. I couldn't believe what I saw. Had to do a double take lol. My mom bought me the game for $60 as an Easter present, then I got home and it wouldn't play. Called the store and found out it needed a converter disc for PAL games. So she drove me all the way back into town and bought me the Disc so I could play that evening. I was so grateful. Definitely a special memory :)
The downside is being only in japanese - despite it being generally known as a bad dub I like my Shenmue 2 with english audio, hence why I played the games on PC... unless there's a modded version of dreamcast's Shenmue 2 with english audio in it
Great video, especially the part about top 2 - these deserve all the effort and love in the world. And so now I wait for that "another story for another time" part (III)..

Wow! Great video! The reviews of Shenmue I/II were so poetic, seemed to be life changing experience for you. I am reading a book “ Tales of Japan” I received as a gift for Christmas. Each story makes you want to pause and reflect. Hope to go to Japan one day 😊
Japan is a wonderful place to visit. I'd like to go back some day too. I also have to visit China to see some of those places too hehe. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I never had Dreamcast back then, but many people seem to love it. Your passion for the Shenmue series kinda makes me want to give the series another shot.
Haha thanks so much dude! Dreamcast was so cool, creative and felt super next gen at the time. Yeah you gotta be the right mood/mind frame to enjoy Shenmue. You gotta be able to enjoy slowing things, soaking in the world and all the details. But like I said, it's not for everyone. Hopefully my video does help you enjoy it more!
Just play Shenmue 2. It has held up much better because they added in way more mini games and more action. It’s really incredible, but Shenmue 1, while a short game, does drag out towards the end. It literally is like the best Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movie in an action RPG. People compare it to Yakuza but that series never impressed me much. I felt the combat was better in Shenmue, and the storyline also.
I've been looking for a dreamcast game for my retroid pocket 2+. I never owned a dreamcast, but your passion for Shenmue really came across. I love the nostalgia of 80s Japan city-pop music and the way you talked about it being a comfort game of yours, makes me definitely wanna try it out!
Ah unfortunately I still haven't played SoA 😅. It's in the backlog. I'll play it one day and we'll see if it makes the list! Thanks so much for watching!
I also made my own personal pilgrimage to Yokosuka and Dobuita street. Picked up a few Shenmue The Animation character cards as well as the Shenmue location map from the Yokosuka tourism office. Shenmue is a special series that has absolutely lasted the test of time. It still resonates with fans around the globe and that's an obvious sign that it's still doing something right. Loved the video, bud. Keep up the great work!
Shenmue I/II, Soul Calibur are truly legendary games. Soul Calibur was also available on XBOX 360 and beyond using BC but sadly couple months ago the game was delisted from Microsoft Store, but at least I was able to grab it and still play it on Series X once in a while now. I see you are also a very open "man of culture" and you should totally pick Dead or Alive 2 (Limited Edition if possible) not only for the fan service but it was also an awesome fighting game with stunning visuals, no loadings screens and all at 60fps.
Yes Soulcalibur 1 and 2 are amazing! I wish I snagged SC2 before it was delisted. Woulda been nice to have the version with Spawn since I only have the Gamecube version with Link. I have DoA2 Hardcore on PS2 but I'm guessing the DC version is better? What about the Xbox version that has 1 and 2 on it? Looks like it's backwards compatible with the Series X too. I did get DoA3 on it not long ago. Good stuff! I also got Xtreme Beach 3 in the summer. Definitely a men of culture game! 😅
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 Yeah, DOA2 on Dreamcast looks way more clean than the PS2 version although has less stages to play and that's where DOA2 Limited Edition (which is japanese but has everything in english ) comes in to add new stages, lot unlockable costumes, expand some stages with more layers, etc. I have entire collection of DOA 1~6 on XBOX Series X, sadly Xtreme series didn't make the cut :( but DOA 1/2 Ultimate are super awesome with improved resolution just like DOA3 but DOA2 has lot more unlockables and stages to play than DOA3, after all it was released way later on the lifespam of the OG XBOX. DOA4 (X360) is also quite good but sadly it was not improved in the resolution but still looks very crisp although jagged when in close inspection.
Yo Skytron! Thanks a lot for watching man! The Dreamcast is a very unique console. I'd recommend checking some of these games out if you ever feel like expanding your retro repertoire!
Thanks so much Reesie! Yes sir! Back to streaming some more Shenmue this week! Thanks again for the support and kind words! Much appreciated! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Man this video was really enjoyable, could tell this was made out of passion. I miss having a CRT and playing House of the Dead 2 with a light gun, now I gotta play the Wii for something close to that experience.
Really glad you enjoyed it. Definitely was a passion project haha. Funny enough I never had the light gun for DC. I just played with the controller haha. But I did get the Wii version later on and yeah that's like the next best thing. Thanks for watching!
Crazy taxi is the game I got with my second(SEGA) dream cast when I was 15!! Fun fact in case you didn’t know: If you tap the button that puts the taxi into “drive“ just prior to slamming the gas, it will make the taxi pop a Willy and take off fast!! The same exact concept works in reverse by hitting the button that throws the car into “reverse“ just prior to slamming the break it will make the back end of the car pop up in the air and the taxi stop on a dime!! If you hit both the drive button and the reverse button at the same time and hold them when going into a turn the taxi will enter a drift state where as long as you were holding those buttons you can continue to slide the car sideways and if you slide it into a flat wall, the taxi will slide up onto the wall and continue to accumulate points as long as you keep the car parallel to the wall and continue to hold the drive and reverse buttons in addition to the gas and counter steering!! This makes it a lot easier if you are going to try to beat all of the challenges and Test’s that are in the game for you to complete! Truly a lot more going on, then one with it first think!!
I started with the Dreamcast in November 2021 and I'm proud to own 9/10 of the games on this list. I'm only missing Code Veronica which I played on Xbox 360. I don't have any of these honourable mentions yet but they will all be added to my shopping list.
Oh wow! Thats cool! That someone who didn't start with the system when it came out can still enjoy it for the first time. Speaks volumes on how it's a great console. Enjoy your time with the awesome Dreamcast! 🥳
It wasn’t until I got resident evil code Veronica that I was completely blown away and could not have been more satisfied with my purchase of The Sega Dreamcast! And then shortly there after, the unforgettable Shenmue!!
Great video! Every single of those games deserve a place in the top games of the library of the Dreamcast 👍🏻 I enjoyed them at their launch, and witnessed how insane those game were and ahead of their time. That been said, one game at its launch was more revolutionary than any of those title because it kicked the industry forward for what it is today, and was truly unique on a console. And that game is Phantasy star Online, too often put aside and forgotten in those kind of video. There was nothing on console like it, like nothing at all. Playing this game Online in 2000 was just insane guys, there is no way to express the addiction, the gathering together because today, we take internet for granted. But back then? The first time you entered those lobby, and those chat bubble coming up, you realize... MAN, those are other people, they are not with me bu with me at the same time, they invite me, add me as friend... whoa! We give each other appointment, these are becoming friend! Let's loggin and play again tomorrow, it's an rendez vous! And gosh, the graphic, the chat, the translation, the first DLC, the interaction in the lobby, the music, the music in the lobby, the weapon hunting! Truly, nothing like it on Console! It was the start of a new era, truly, and nothing will ever feel like it ever again, you had to be there and experience it to understand! That's why the Dreamcast will forever be the best innovative and better console of ALL TIME. Not only it was insane intemporel game after game, but it deliver experiences, first time feeling and a leap forward what we saw before, the kind of avant gardist experiences that we only witness a few time in our life in kind of technology. A truly "wow" effect that no other brand offered yet. And that is what makes a brand shine above all the other. I will alway love Sega for that reason, even if they are no more than the brand todays. They did surpass themself with that machine, they did it for the sake of the brand, but also for us, player. Shenmue 2 was a financial suicide mission but they still released it. For us. Its dedication, it truly what it was all about until the end.
The shenmue series came out around the time I was studying kung fu That game was as much a part of my life because it combined my love of martial arts and video games into one That game and it’s music and graphics and just everything about it was nostalgic memory at its finest Blessed to have experienced it 🙏
Maxi was my favorite in Soul Calibur. My first serious girlfriend would play SC with me and my roommates. She always called him Maxi Pad and it always got under my skin!
Good list. But I guess you haven't played as many games of the Dreamcast as I did. Otherwise other amazing games could have made it into your list. Games like Rez, Skies of Arcdia or Metropolis street racer. My personal top is 10.SoulCalibur 9.Rez 8.Jet Set Radio 7.Code Veronica 6.Record Of Lodoss War 5.Crazy Taxi 4.Grandia 2 3.Metropolis Street Racer 2.Shenmue 2 1.Skies of Arcadia.
Hydro Thunder is way better and more fun than Crazy Taxi which slightly is over rated imo (although I have it, it’s alright) Hydro T Should be on this list infact. Also, Games like Millennium Solder Expendable, Xtreme Sports, Dynamite Cop, Trick Style and MDK2 are awesome.
wow you didn't even mention Sega rally 2 on DC or maybe i miss it but that game could be atleast on mentioned outro or atleast at top 15 instead of 10 but awesome video and explanation of those games you did put em in fair order for my taste to be honest , great work keep it up and have a good one sir
27:17 I imagine if there was no plot in this game. it would be a guy who knows karate and who walks the snowy streets, goes to cafes, plays video games, eats soup, drinks soda. it's lamp -_-
Я имею в виду, что вы можете совершенно не заморачиваться с историей, если хотите. В каком-то смысле это можно рассматривать как симулятор жизни. Очень продвинутая и амбициозная для игры 1999 года!
mmm my Top 10 (9+4+2K series): Shenmue 1+2 2K sports series Metropolis Street Racer Sonic Adventures 1+2 Dead or Alive 2 Soul Calibur Skies of Arcadia Jet Set Radio Power Stone 1+2 Crazy Taxi 1+2
The Dreamcast sure was ahead of it's time - shame that it almost killed SEGA. Glad they're still around tho! Tbh, if SEGA would pull out a new Console today, i would buy it.
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 Ahahaha yes))) fighting. I played it as a child with my brother. It was one of our favorite games. and also the team hero "Shrek 2", "Madagascar" and GTA San Andreas.
Based on what I had and Liked the most out of The games I had for my Dreamcast at the time: 1. Shenmue 2. Resident Evil Code Veronica 3. Soul Caliber 4. MSR 5. 4x4 evo 6. Sega Rally Championship 7. Hydro Thunder 8. Crazy Taxi 9. Sonic Adventure 10. NFL Blitz/NFL 2k1 I admit, this list would be a little bit different if I had every Dreamcast game that I wanted back then.. Games like the house of the dead, skies of Arcadia and Dino Crisis and tony hawks pro skater2 etc.. I did get to play Tony hawks pro skater two quite a bit on the Dreamcast and loved it to death, but I never owned it and I admit, Sonic adventure is really low on the list but I just never liked that game- it always pissed me off due to the shitty cumbersome control.. I even bought it again when it released on the Xbox 360 store just for nostalgia sake and I still have not beat that damn game… it’s just aggravating to me?! Either way skies of Arcadia, based on what I’ve heard of it, might would be my number one pick or at least in my top three if I had ever got the chance to play that game, but unfortunately I didn’t.. Grandia2 there’s another one that I wish I could’ve played.. But I did not like jet set radio either, but I also never had that game so that’s why it’s not in my list.. Either way, I really enjoyed this video and excellent list! I don’t know if I personally would’ve ever put jet set radio ahead of resident evil code Veronica in any reality, but to each his own!? Edit: I had to edit my entire list due to the fact that I completely forgot about one of my favorite games for the Dreamcast and one of my favorite games of all time… soul caliber-
Unexpectedly i had a great time with Gundam side story 0079. Not sure how it holds up today but it was my first mech game i got hooked on before Steel battalion on xbox. Check it out.
I never expected you to give the number one spot to Shenmue 2???? I guess I should’ve seen it coming, however I did not find that game to be nowhere near as entertaining as the first game?!?! Hot take, yes I know and it starts with the very beginning of the game when the kid takes your bag and so you have to go on a wild goose chase to find it which is all good, it’s not the worst but it feels a little bit like it’s wasting your time especially to be wasting your time so early into the game? But the part that angered and frustrated me the most is that the jobs you have available to get, while more than the first game or in no way shape or form as entertaining and memorable as getting a job driving the forklift at the dock where at the start of each new day you would get to participate in a very memorable and entertaining warm-up forklift raised before you did your daily set of moving crate to their destinations!!! The second game got rid of this and added in jobs that sucked- Not to mention the convoluted map system and trying to find your way around the town, at times it was just aggravating! With that said, I still love each one of those two games I just believe that the first one is the ultimate masterpiece because it has the overall best balance where everything is concerned, from the pacing to the memorable moments to the job that you get at the dock! Yes there is literal waiting around for time to pass which is aggravating, but I always felt like it reinforces the idea that you were living in a simulated world and that you were gonna have to find something to do until 3 o’clock for you to see if the tip you got on a certain person at a certain location paid off or not? But then again, I did not get to play Shenmue two until the remastered port came out for Xbox one and PS4… I know there’s a 50% chance I would’ve liked it 100% better if I had a got to play it immediately the next year after playing the first at age 15!
The absence of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Virtua Tennis 2 in the list is incredible... Maybe it was time to remove two duplicates (Shenmue and Sonic Adventure occupy 4 places...) and add the two missing games... Oh well, it's a matter of taste end
Only a bit here n there. I really should play it all the way through that way. I agree, the tone is different and its certainly less goofy. I played S2 in Japanese for the most part and going to english dub, like I do when I stream it, still sounds weird to me lol
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 I don't mind Ryo in either Shenmue II dub, but the supporting cast I feel fits better in Japanese. I love that whiny thing Ren does!

@@PlayLifeX great. Thanks for the heads up!
Really nice vid! I never had a Dreamcast myself but this literally oozes nostalgia, love it 😁
Yo Skytron! Thanks a lot for watching man! The Dreamcast is a very unique console. I'd recommend checking some of these games out if you ever feel like expanding your retro repertoire!
Awesome video, Ren! As per usual! Can't wait to see more and catch your streams on Twitch!
Thanks so much Reesie! Yes sir! Back to streaming some more Shenmue this week! Thanks again for the support and kind words! Much appreciated! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Me encanta el top que has hecho!! Estoy de acuerdo con la selección de los juegos y con el orden. Muchas gracias y viva dreamcast
Thank you so much! Great minds think alike 😉
Long live the Dreamcast! Thanks for watching!
Fun fact in case you didn’t know:
If you tap the button that puts the taxi into “drive“ just prior to slamming the gas, it will make the taxi pop a Willy and take off fast!!

The Veronica code looks really nice

@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 have you been waiting for him too
Loved your video man, really took me back to my childhood thinking about Shenmue especially
It makes me happy to hear things like this. Thanks so much! Glad it resonated with you!
Awesome video! Sharing this with my retro gaming community to see if we can get this video and channel some more views!
The shenmue series came out around the time I was studying kung fu
That game was as much a part of my life because it combined my love of martial arts and video games into one
That game and it’s music and graphics and just everything about it was nostalgic memory at its finest
Blessed to have experienced it 🙏

But I guess you haven't played as many games of the Dreamcast as I did. Otherwise other amazing games could have made it into your list. Games like Rez, Skies of Arcdia or Metropolis street racer.

3. Soul Caliber
4. MSR
5. 4x4 evo
6. Sega Rally Championship
7. Hydro Thunder
8. Crazy Taxi
9. Sonic Adventure
10. NFL Blitz/NFL 2k1
I admit, this list would be a little bit different if I had every Dreamcast game that I wanted back then..
Edit:
I had to edit my entire list due to the fact that I completely forgot about one of my favorite games for the Dreamcast and one of my favorite games of all time… soul caliber-
This dude must of had a hell of a childhood 🤣
Unexpectedly i had a great time with Gundam side story 0079. Not sure how it holds up today but it was my first mech game i got hooked on before Steel battalion on xbox. Check it out.

29:44 you have the Shenmue Jacket!
Soul Caliber should have been the pack-in for North America
19:14 actually, his name is MILES.
The second game got rid of this and added in jobs that sucked-
Not to mention the convoluted map system and trying to find your way around the town, at times it was just aggravating!
Legit list
Thanks for checking it out!

Only a bit here n there. I really should play it all the way through that way. I agree, the tone is different and its certainly less goofy. I played S2 in Japanese for the most part and going to english dub, like I do when I stream it, still sounds weird to me lol
