For the better part of two years, the Dreamcast was the most powerful console in the world. At the same time it was more powerful than any GPU you could buy for a PC. The only thing that could beat the Dreamcast for gaming performance was the worlds most powerful Arcade machine - the SEGA Naomi - Identical to a Dreamcast except for more memory and a slightly faster version of the same GPU. When the PS2 and Gamecube launched - the Dreamcast was still way faster for 2D rasterization and had 'HD' resolutions (native VGA support) and could beat them both on some specific 3D tasks. The Dreamcast was finally dethroned by the Xbox - Which was the Dreamcast 2 in all but name.
Oh, I am definitely looking forward to that fightng collection 2. Playing Power Stone online alone is worth it, as it's one of my favorite games on the Dreamcast
Its quite amazing that the two most iconic NA platforms share a birthday. PS1 (9/9/95) and Dreamcast (9/9/99). Such great memories playing both of those... and i still do to this day.
Recently, I’ve been on a Dreamcast kick…The NFL and NBA 2K games, NFL Blitz 2000, Soul Calibur, both Ready 2 Rumbles, NBA Showtime - NBA on NBC and NBA Hoopz
Capcom is also releasing a Marvel collection later this week. It will include an apparently arcade perfect port of Marvel vs Capcom 2. I find that interesting because the digital version for PS3/360 was pulled years ago, and the PS2 version is flawed at best, so many competitive players' preferred way to play is still the Dreamcast version.
Good stuff! I remember my jaw dropping when the Dreamcast originally released. Like its older brother the Sega Saturn, it was basically a home arcade! It had such a great amount of incredible launch titles like Soulcalibur! I wish the Dreamcast had stuck around for a few years longer, but even in its short lifespan, it had quite the legacy behind it! Even though many of its games have had ports, there are still a good amount of Dreamcast games I still play to this day!
Zombie’s Revenge was awesome. I remember watching someone n the arcade beat it solo on a single credit. His play through was filled with such strategic finesse that became my new goal whenever I play.
Such a shame the Dreamcast couldn’t play DVDs. That’s what killed it. I remember here in the U.K., Virgin Megastore was giving away a free DVD player with every DC purchased in an effort to keep up with the PS2. It didn’t work 😢
Yeah sadly I think that was the only major feature the Dreamcast didn't have. And the fact that the Dreamcast was incredibly easy to play ripped games on. I think the lack of proper copyright protection also hurt the sales for them. I know at least in my experience, I bought a PS2 mainly for the DVD abilities (gaming was also a major plus, but at the time I still had several other consoles).
Definitely no DVD playback was a mistake but the controller was a poor design. Large odd saucer shape, single analog stick & dual UMV made it awkward to hold and heavy. The triggers weren’t the best either
Not to mention that the PS2 was what most people, myself included were waiting for, not to mention the lack of DVD support and the garbage controller which is one of the worst controllers of all time.
Ps2 literally looked like something from the future... Sony absolutely nailed the console design. It gave the impression of being akin to a piece of high end AV kit than a games machine. Pity the hardware never lived up to the hype, it was marginally more powerful than DC but imo Sega never stood a chance
The dream cast will always hold a special place in my heart is one of the very best systems I’ve ever played and will always be one of my top favorite game systems of all time
25 years old time flies by. I still play most of the games, you have shown on the Sega Dreamcast like Marvel VS Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 & 2 etc. But i also still play games, that weren´t in this video like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, TrickStyle, Jet Set Radio and ChuChu Rocket.
Still love my Dreamcast! Though I'm excited were getting the Capcom Fighting Collections...I'm just happy have my copies of Marvel vs Capcom 1&2, Capcom vs Snk2 and Jojos Bizarre Adventures to name a few!❤
I find it kind of funny that back in the DC days (Saturn too) I used to turn my nose up at 2D games. I'd kill for GGX + KoF99 in my collection now! (MVC Fighting Collection on Steam pre-ordered lol)
Sega Rally 2 is awesome and I love how you chose Go Go Sega Rally for the start of the video! From what I've tested, the Japanese SR2 has better performance than the US or PAL versions. I think that's because the Japanese version has slightly less detail or shorter draw distance but I'm not sure. What I know is that I'll always take higher performance over anything else. By the way it's a shame that the arcade original hasn't been ported to anything. I recently realised that besides looking better than Dreamcast, it also has better handling.
Dreamcast is by far, my favorite console of all time. The biggest issue these days is that people are too busy "adulting" that I can rarely play all the great party games on the console together with others. Ultimately the demise of the Dreamcast is the saddest era in gaming history. Such an amazing piece of hardware. I'm even interested starting developing for it.

@@Adamtendo_player_1 How come? :) For me it was the only time that SEGA truly nailed their vision of "bringing the arcade into the home". And they did that splendidly. I have a lot of love for other SEGA consoles. But the Dreamcast in particular was just REALLY well-designed architecturally and it was also a part of the golden era of the 6th console generation. It was the time when 3D truly matured and when 2D wasn't crippled by memory- or color limitations. Games were still colorful, fun, goofy and hadn't yet stagnated into the AAA-industries tropes and conventions that later plagued future console generations.
Dreamcast was a great final console, it's library is chock full of interesting and fun titles. one of my favorites being the original Soul Calibur which made a franchise over it's reception.
The Dreamcast was THE system I played the most from the time I bought one in 2000 until I purchased a PS2 two years later. And of course, its mini-renaissance in 2020 thanks to all those Atomiswave ports was a lot of fun. Virtua Fighter 3tb (tuberculosis?) was a bitter pill, though. It felt wrong that Sega's own flagship fighter was so lacking; like when Nintendo released a Donkey Kong for the NES with just three stages. It's your own game, on your latest hardware! You can't just fob it off to Genki! That's like hiring Steve Urkel for the lead role in The Life of James Earl Jones.
The Dreamcast is the perfect millennium system. It represents what was great about arcades and PCs of the time.
That is a VERY well said statement! It's 100% true!
And home consoles, of course. The oldest zoomers might even have some fond memories of it.
...and that price tag! $199 and it was all mine!

love Sega. they should start making hardware again. The video game industry definitely needs another competitor in the console market...
The problem is what niche are they gonna fill at this point. The niche they were going for is already being done by other companies.
@@yeahyeahwowman8099 Sega IPs from ye old.
26:13 THE SOUL STILL BURNS!👍
Zombie’s Revenge was awesome. I remember watching someone n the arcade beat it solo on a single credit. His play through was filled with such strategic finesse that became my new goal whenever I play.
Rez is the best example of a game on Dreamcast that has stood the test of time.
Prove me wrong ;)
A quarter of a century!😮😮 I feel old
Player 1: BADASS
Indeed my friend, indeed
Happy Birthday to a console that was just way too ahead of its time and has been forgotten way too early and too unjustful
Can't believe the machine is this old and marks the last hardware release - Crazy. Good list though 👍
Happy 25 years to the Sega Dreamcast. 🥳🥂🎊🎆🎏🙌
@@Adamtendo_player_1too bad. PS2 games looked like garbage dithered compared to sharp DC output.
Ps2 literally looked like something from the future... Sony absolutely nailed the console design. It gave the impression of being akin to a piece of high end AV kit than a games machine. Pity the hardware never lived up to the hype, it was marginally more powerful than DC but imo Sega never stood a chance
The dream cast will always hold a special place in my heart is one of the very best systems I’ve ever played and will always be one of my top favorite game systems of all time
Wow, twenty five years since the Dreamcast? Goddamn. Twenty five years, of waiting for something nice to happen
The best console sega ever made
Hi, great video the Dreamcast Is still one of my favourite consoles.
Hard to believe it has been 25 years so far! It's a console that still holds up.
14:39 How lucky we are that Capcom FINALLY remembered Power Stone and will put 1 + 2 on the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, eh? 😁
And PROJECT MUTHAFUCKIN JUSTICE!!!🤯🤟🏻💯
For me, I can go back to Armada any time, any day and still love it just as much as I did then!
I see Dreamcast, I click and hit the like button 😅
... Amen to that!!!
25 years old time flies by.
I still play most of the games, you have shown on the Sega Dreamcast like Marvel VS Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 & 2 etc.
But i also still play games, that weren´t in this video like Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, TrickStyle, Jet Set Radio and ChuChu Rocket.
let's party like it's 9.9.1999....
Still love playing mine. One of my favorite Sega consoles. So happy they're still making games for it!! 😁🤗
... Are they... really?!!!
I STILL rock Daytona and Crazy Taxi! I created a sim rig for them tho, so it REALLY makes them fun to play, even to this day!
What, no 18 Wheeler, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, or Crazy Taxi 2? That's crazy.
Happy birthday, legendary Dreamcast!
Still in love with this console... The 128 bit era was the best!
I still remember getting a Dreamcast with Star Wars Episode 1 Racer. Such a great system.
"The legend will never die" I see what your Soul Calibur a$$ did there 😏
Still love my Dreamcast! Though I'm excited were getting the Capcom Fighting Collections...I'm just happy have my copies of Marvel vs Capcom 1&2, Capcom vs Snk2 and Jojos Bizarre Adventures to name a few!❤
NBA Hoopz is the most fun I've had with an NBA game since I discovered NBA Jam XXX! Thanks for the suggestions. 👍
25 years ago I was an adult, sleeping on lunch day because I had my Asian DC (no modem) for a few months on deck.
This was such an awesome era in gaming! Thanks for the throwback. It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years!
Thanks for this video. There were a couple games on this list that I didn't know came out for the Dreamcast, like Vigalante 8 -2 and Zombie Revenge.
I find it kind of funny that back in the DC days (Saturn too) I used to turn my nose up at 2D games. I'd kill for GGX + KoF99 in my collection now! (MVC Fighting Collection on Steam pre-ordered lol)
Out of all the systems I don't really play anymore, the Dreamcast makes me feel the oldest because of how long it's been
Dynamite Cop and Zombie Revenge… Cheesy memories still played to this day.
Still the Greatest ever.
Dreamcast is the “culmination apex” of SEGA & CAPCOM.
Among many other great things!
25 years passed by just like that... And it only feels like yesterday!
9/9/99 is a date you can't forget. Happy birthday Dreamcast!
I was starting to write my own list of Dreamcast games I still play, but then I realized that it would be too long. 😁
... Ha ha!... Understood!!!
Still play Guilty Gear X! Colors just pop on a crt.
This was such a great little system. Loved it till the end! And kudos for you listing Fire Pro D! You truly are a man of culture.
For me King of Fighters 1998(99😉) Dream Match is the best KOF to date, and one of the best 2D fighting game of all times🤯 Timeless masterpiece💚
I still have the Marine Fishing controller and the Dreamcast Keyboard for Typing of the Dead =)
Virtua Striker is my go to Dreamcast game...such a good time...Sega Bass Fishing is fun, as well...
I'm even interested starting developing for it.
if I was your friend, we'd definitely be playing more than not.
@@RockstarMazy Yeah man, definitely! We Dreamcast fans should just move to the same country, city and neighborhood. Living the rest of our days in a blissful nostalgic version of reality. :D Actually, after I posted I ordered a RD02-D400 dell modem to get my console online again. If I can't play local multiplayer at least I can enjoy some online play on original hardware through DreamPi! :)
@@PixelShade actually, that idea of yours doesn't sound too bad... I don't have my dreamcast anymore sadly. but I do still relive all the good times through emulation. even got some of the youngsters around me into the dreamcast library.
As great as the Dreamcast is, it’s by far my least favourite Sega console let alone my favourite console of all time.
Games were still colorful, fun, goofy and hadn't yet stagnated into the AAA-industries tropes and conventions that later plagued future console generations.
i absolutely love the dreamcast, great video yet again Sega Lord!!!!
Those Capcom collections are censored, so the original releases are still optimal, or emulation.
Dreamcast was a great final console, it's library is chock full of interesting and fun titles. one of my favorites being the original Soul Calibur which made a franchise over it's reception.
At this point, the fact that Sega has not released a Dreamcast or Saturn mini is truly puzzling to me.
Happy 25th birthday
