  • Day 5 - We set off early from the campsite by lake Como (Camping Continental) heading north along to the edge of the lake cruising through idyllic looking Italian towns and villages straight for the Swiss border. Once at the border you are immediately thrust upon the exquisite Maloja Pass, probably my favourite road of the trip.
Winding its way up the mountain through beautiful pine woodlands, past ski resorts and wooden lodges. The view behind us back towards Italy is something indescribable. Stopping for a quick break and photo-op on the banks of lake Silersee, we pushed on through St. Moritz, the Flüela-Pass and Davos before Reaching Vaduz, Liechtenstein. Stopping for a bite to eat about 150 miles into the ride before entering Austria and Germany, our 4th and 5th countries of the day.
After dinner we pushed on again leaving the mountains behind us, a bitter sweet feeling came over me as I saw the clouds and mist rolling off the snow capped mountains in my rear view, but still not knowing what was ahead filled me still with that true sense of adventure.
Crossing the Rhine in eastern Switzerland into Austria we left a distinct change in the weather hugely different from what we had been through the day before, more "English" we jested.
Skirting through Austrian hills we didn't really know where we were and before we knew it we were riding through the huge rolling hills of German countryside, I suddenly felt I was in that famous bike chase from The Great Escape with the same Swiss mountains behind us. After another 100 miles or so we chose a suitable campsite (Camping Öschlesee) just outside Kempten in southern Germany. We pitched up and feasted on German meat and bread, before getting tucked up in my sleeping bag, preparing ourselves for tomorrow and the Black Forest.

Hey! Love the videos. Looking into getting a scrambler myself when I pass my full test, was wondering how tall you were? I'm 6.2ft and I'm worried I might be uncomfortable on one due to my height. I can't test drive one until I've done my test and need to work out the finances beforehand haha

hey thanks man! Im only 5'10, so pretty average on the height scale, but I got asked this once before in person by a guy who was REALLY tall, he had a sit on my bike and he didnt look cramped or anything. Saying that I do have the bench seat on so you can sit further back on the seat for the perfect position. I don't think you have a problem.

So what is your final verdict on the Scrambler as a touring bike? Would you recommend it?

I think the Scrambler is a perfectly capable touring bike for solo trips, probably not the best for long 2-up journeys though. But it does the job, I managed perfectly fine 2500 miles around Europe. Its not the best but certainly not the worst, Its why I think its a brilliant jack of all trades kinda bike.

I’m gonna be buying a street scrambler within a month, any suggestions on the options I should get on it?

Depends on the look and what you plan to do with the bike tbh, but upgrading the shocks isnt a bad idea and maybe a decat and exhaust system.
Check out this guys vid on some mods he did to his scrambler!

KrisMOTO23 Thanks man, yeah it’ll be a sort of daily cruiser and desert gravel/packed down sand road for the deserts in El Paso Texas. Thanks again!
