Who knows maybe in a different timeline, Daniel Larusso would have moved to Japan, married Kumiko, had kids and actually lived a simple life learning the Japanese culture and language. He would have been a car mechanic while teaching kids the life lessons and karate style of Mr Miyagi. While also having drinking nights with his best friend Chozen.

I honestly love how they're still friends in Cobra Kai. There was no Daniel cheating on his wife, or Kumiko admitting feelings. It feels realistic. And I so hope she's in the next season and gets together with Chozen! That would be a beautiful story of forgiveness and grace.

In that deleted scene, Daniel almost did. After she cements that he's a good man. He looks at her in a way that feels he's having a rush and even starts to place the hand he was holding (for the dancing) aside for an opening. He manages to stop himself though, so good on him.
He still looks at her the same way he did in this movie.
I prefer Kumiko to be Daniel's "there was always Paris" than seeing Chozen and Kumiko together.

The writers made a mistake, it should have been Daniel and Kumiko together. When they reunited, Kumiko never stopped loving Daniel.
What did it for me, was when Kumiko and Daniel danced after 35 years, the look that she gave him. Thats a deep and pure love. I cried, i really hope I one day find my Kumiko.

The biggest hang up I have with watching Cobra Kai is it affirms Daniel didn't go back to Okinawa after the third movie. I even tried watching his reunion with Kumiko in the third season and their chemistry is still too good for them not to have ended up together.

Daniel and Kumiko is my favorite couple of the Karate Kid trilogy.
I watched all the Karate Kid movies when I was 20 (during quarantine) after my bf recommended me to me. I remember texting him after the second movie and I said “Dude Daniel and Kumiko have WAY better chemistry and Daniel actually treats her kindly. He got mad and yelled at Ally a few times” I was pretty upset that they ended up not getting together in the end

I don’t think there’s a way to do that without making the story feel cheap, like Kumiko is a trophy for Chozen to have because he’s a better person now. It sacrifices her growth for his growth and he’s already in the series way more than she has been so it would further that point if she was brought in just for a romantic reason. I would love for her to come back but I hope she would have more to do.

Honestly I’ll still always be just a little bit bitter that the writers of cobra Kai didn’t let Daniel marry Kumiko. They were somehow so absolutely perfect for each other, and it would not have been hard at all to have them get together at any point after the events of karate kid 3. I think it would’ve added a lot more heart to Cobra Kai and would have given us maybe some deeper and more interesting storylines and conversations with their kids.
