    I really thank you for publishing this episode because Bill Belcher was my father! He was also on Hollywood Squares! It is such a thrill to watch again! Once again, I thank you so much!

      Oh wow! That's so cool! He seems like a very nice, well mannered gentleman. You are lucky to have such a great American as Bill Belcher as your dad.

      The classic look that made her famous, even during Golden Girls.

    The dreaded time change! This, among many other things, signals the beginning of the end of a great game show. 😢

    I wonder how many women named Edna watched this show and hated the ugly Edna questions 🤔

    Only reason I remembered Nelson Eddy was because he was in Phantom of the Opera ‘43

    If I could arrest Fred Silverman (because of his hatred for game shows), I would put him in prison where he's forced to watch Hollywood Squares repeatedly because of how much he hated that show.

    H/H match update:
    ...
    ~~~Today's action:
    For the second day in a row, it was Richard's answer (the sweet "I Luv You!" this time) that officially ended a champion's reign (Betty, however, did match, but too late). This champion departs having won one game and $350.
    *Today's audience match question: "Flag________"*
    (My thoughts: Pole, Day, Holder?)
    The celebs: Richard (Day), Betty (Pole), Nipsey (Waver)
    The choice: Day
    The answers: Of the USA, Day, Pole
    Once again, I have to predict that our brand-new champ will choose the same old celeb. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing she has a Richard Dawson fan club card tucked in her pocketbook along with some Green Stamps she hasn't yet pasted in her book...
    She seems to deliberate for a split second, but it's Richard. This makes King Richard's tenth consecutive head-to-head question, and he's played 43 of the past 45 times.
    (And, he's on a hot streak, having matched six of his last seven attempts, and he's hot on Brett's heels as far as overall accuracy!)
    Stats: Richard has matched 108 of his 249 most recent attempts (43.4%), 47 of his last 109 attempts (43.1%), and 28 of his last 65 attempts (43.1%). His overall success rate is *42.1%* and this is his 727th attempt so far.
    For the sake of comparison: Betty has matched 19 of her 38 attempts (50.0%), Charles has matched 33 of his 69 attempts (47.8%), Brett has matched 30 of her 71 attempts (42.3%), and Richard has matched 306 of his 726 attempts (42.1%). Nipsey has answered eight questions without yet matching, and Patty Duke Astin has answered two without yet matching.
    *Today's H/H question: "________Eddie"*
    (Nelson Eddie comes to mind, although I'm not 100% sure who he was or if his career peak qualifies him for being top of mind in 1977. As I always say, I detest the "name" questions. - My friend Wikipedia tells me it's "Nelson Eddy" Oops. Oh well, spelling doesn't count here, just matching. Anyway, Eddy was an actor and baritone singer who appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930s and '40s. He died in 1967. So it's not too much of a stretch to think that he would come to mind in 1977. Let's see what two people back then actually say...)
    Richard contemplates for a moment, raises his eyebrows, and begins to write. The camera cuts to the champion who appears to still be thinking of her answer. I see a faint smile just before the camera cuts away. Richard is still writing, just finishing up, in fact. A glance at Betty as he files his card...
    Our champion shakes her head and says "Nelson" as if throwing in the towel. She's clearly not thrilled with her answer. The audience offers mild applause. "I can't think of anything else," she says. I hear you, Miss Champion, I hear you. I still can't come up with anything else, either. Well, maybe Richard will be in the same boat?
    Wow! Once again, it's unanimous! (Was there any other answer?)
    Richard scores his 307th H/H match today.
    ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts).
    Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts).
    Fannie - 48.3% (14 wins in 29 attempts).
    Charles - 47.8% (33 wins in 69 attempts).
    Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Brett - 42.3% (30 wins in 71 attempts).
    Richard - 42.2% (307 wins in 727 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1083, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. *Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. (These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. Note: There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036.)
