Has been my favourite song for 35 years, and still gives me goosebumps! The only song I’ve ever heard that stops everyone in a room and makes them listen, everyone!
This song sounded nothing like anything else out at the time. The Joshua Tree was and still is a monster. Where the Streets have no Name = one of my top 10 favorites ever.
Unfortunately I wasn't born back then but yeah. That's quite the unique sound they put off. 2009 1st row. It was truly a touching psychedelic experince. Seriously. Like the depth of a spiritual/religious experience people are reporting taking psylocybin ("entering the realm of god").
Oh Thanks a million! Absolute masterpiece, outstanding voice, lyrics, orchestration . Goosebumps guaranteed. So poignant and so stellar, so ethearal. One of the hugest song ever.
I’m a fan of U2 since 1987, since I listed to the Joshua tree the first time. This song still gives me goosebumps. Such a beautiful song, one of their many masterpieces 🥰
U2, a band that will always be remembered by me, cause they give me a lot of iconic songs and to see that you reacted to U2, puts a smile at my face. Thank you so much Dereck 💙
I remember the goose bumps I got the first time I heard this song too. So moving. Such a terrific band. Further suggestions: Pride, Every Breaking Wave, Iris, Mysterious Ways, The Fly, Ultraviolet, and the cover of the Cole Porter classic, Night and Day (absolutely fantastic!!!).
Achtung Baby, Joshua Tree, Zooropa, War, Pop, Rattle & Hum, All That you can't leave behind, Boy, The Unforgettable Fire, October, How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. My list. Unfortunately, the other albums are not always to my liking.
@@justincredible. Same! It was so atmospheric and they were doing very different things there. Love every song on it, and none of them sound really anything like the others (one exception being Zoo Station and Fly). So many people think JT is the best album by them by far, and I just don't (although I love most everything they're ever done lol).
Dude. Everything you said about this song is exactly how I felt the first time I saw it on MTV in 1987. This is such a timeless piece, the musicality and the sheer emotion in this song is incredible. The crazy things about is that while it is layered and builds little by little it really isn't that complicated a song, based around those four main chords the Bass comes in with. Yet it is absolutely a masterpiece of musical art. Great reaction. Oh and Dude, talking about the hate mail you said you get because you don't know the music of those times or people saying you should? Just ignore it man. Reactors like you give us the joy of experiencing the song again almost like we did the first time. That's priceless stuuf man, so thanks and best to ya.
A stunning band that are so phenomenal as a lot be act too !!! I’ve seen them a few times and each time was an amazing day and you felt so euphoric with the sound of their tracks still lingering with you on the road home too ….. One of the best times was when they played at Murayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on the Pop Mart tour. The venue held about 60,000 between seated and standing. I was working for a security firm at the time that did the security for most of the venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow that held larger concert numbers. I was stationed in the mid section at the back of the stadium furthest from the stage. I got a spare pair of tickets and gave one to my boyfriend and it was such a well behaved section that all I had to do was to walk up and down the steps checking no one was needing help. I spent the rest of the show just standing there watching the show and it was such a special night …. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen and made so special that I had Stewart with me xxxxx Amazing !!!
Love this song. It was such a surprise from them at the time; we were used to seeing them as 4 moody post-punk politically fiery Irishman. Suddenly we're hearing a relationship song from them and not yet another power ballad which was so popular in the 80s... but a real, mature song which was moody, tense, restrained and had a feverish heat to it. It still smolders today and stands among their best work.
Were you not already aware of this song? An absolute classic of U2. For many of us, this is our favorite song from them. I must have heard this song 1000 times and it never gets old.
The day i felt i love with U2 as a 10 year old . With or without you became one of my all time favorites ! Thank you daddy för introducing me to the world of U2
This was from their 1987 album The Joshua Tree, which has the two other huge songs ‘Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ and ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’, which are a must for you to react to as well
My oldest brother listened to U2 nonstop. and we are 12 yrs apart. 1978 and 1990. He listened to U2 while I was a kid, and I remember those days . I loved U2 growing up and I still love them now because of him.
1987 : The whole Joshua Tree album is IGNICENT, it totally blew the mind of an entire generation of teenagers (me first :)) . 2017 : The Joshua Tree Tour blew on the still red ashes and lit the fire again. You should have a glimpse to "where the streets have no name" live from the Tour. Behind the band, a huge widescreen shows footage of the desert from a moving car. Mesmerizing.
This is one of the best U2 songs from all times! The whole album is great, you should do a double react to U2 song “ Where the streets have no name” from this album, and the song cover by Pet Shop Boys, both versions are epic!
My favorite song off of The Joshua Tree. I saw them four times on the 1987 JT tour. So many great memories of being a fan from way back! I met the band on that tour as well. Bono was handsome, funny and kind, just like I thought he’d be. ❤️
What a Monday, my hymne of life (innocence), then later ONE and SOMETIMES YOU CAN MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN (experience). The whole album JOSHUA TREE is atmospheric and brilliant; e.g. take the package BULLET THE BLUE SKY (political song) + RUNNING TO STAND STILL (addiction song) from the concert Paris 1987. The last title you can also see Live in the St. Patrick Cathedrale Dublin, 24.12.2022, Bono and THE BUSK so passionate and fantastic with the harmonica end. It's worth to see. God bless The Ukrainians!!!
This song always reminds me of my mom and dad they went through a lot when I was a kid and how they just kept coming back to each other don't know how they did it but still together after 30 plus years
This is a break up song for me, still kind of brings a tear to my eye... in the best way though! Loved the reaction, it's been so long since I've listened!♥️✌
Spectacular reaction/review - always love your videos, and your channel is growing so strongly, so happy to see this! U2, wonderful band, amazing career. Bono is definitely one of the greatest lead singers ever. Thank you Derek, take care of yourself, my friend. 🙂
@@DereckReacts - Thank you for your response - and yes absolutely can agree, I've seen U2 live five times, and every single performance memorable. If I can just throw a random suggestion, U2 - "Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own." Such an emotionally brilliant song, filled with stellar U2-isms (as I have coined); so good, I promise, *Dereck* (so embarrassed, I have been forgetting the "c", so sorry).
Saw them at the Half Moon, Herne Hill, London (a pub with a boxing club upstairs). They were an hour late and the venue was so small that you couldn't tell one note from another so went home unimpressed. After hearing their first album all was forgiven!
My first U2 song was Two Hearts Beat as One and it took about a month before I found out the name of the band. In the past, when listening to the FM radio you'd wait till the end of the song to find out the song name and the band name. But so often a commercial break came on and you'd have to wait to hear it again and hope you'd get it. Some songs from other bands took a few years to find out who they were. I'm sure this happened to a lot of people that grew up in the 70's and 80's. I've been a fan of U2 since then.
Was my wedding song! And the story of my very volatile push and pull relationship ..Turns out I could live without him thou… also saw them live in 2005 supported by the killers was amazing!!
This song was written about the conflict of fame vs religion in Bono, Larry and The Edge in the early 80’s when a church group they were part of called ‘Shalom’ tried to tell them they couldn’t serve God and music at the same time. Brian Eno and actually tried to toss it out until one of Edges friends sent him the infinite guitar pedal they invented that makes that long ringing note from the guitar. It was the atmosphere that brought which saved the song.
From liking much of U2 songs over many albums, I found out about Daniel Lanois, French Canadian pronounced like Lan-Wah, who produced a lot of their music, a lot of other great music like some of Peter Gabriel's, also the sound track to the game Red Dead Redemption 2. Daniel is truly a musical genius. After listening to Daniels own music I could hear his influence in their sound. "Still Water", "Jolie Louise" "The Maker" are just a few I recommend.
The Joshua Tree was written lyrically by Bono specifically for & about America. Bono was so adept & brilliant lyrically, that he he could write songs with a surface meaning & a deeper more macro meaning as well. While this song is written in a person to person context, it is also a song written by the world to America. Bono is a outright genius & Poet Laureate for a generation.
Brilliant song from one and if not the best albums by the band The Joshua tree, you should react to this song live especially from the 360 tour. Another song you should react to is All I Want is You from the next album Rattle and Hum, which is my favourite song by the band
Streets is my favorite song of all time - I’m so glad you enjoyed this! Listen to the entire album cover to cover man! You won’t be disappointed by the magic. 🇮🇪✌🏻💜

Thank you. I remember standing under the streetlight with my teenage crush and her saying this song was different. Columbus GA 1987
Were you around in 1987?
Well said. I was 21 when this came out. I never heard anything like it.
A huge staple of mainstream radio in 1987

Every song on the 'Achtung Baby' and 'Joshua Tree' albums are masterpieces. They were massive albums.
The joshua tree in my opinion was their best album ever.
Yeah, and Achtung Baby too
Nope, Achtung baby, way better in my opinion.
