Poor girl. Unfortunately, Alissa's jumps have always been a little wonky and the first thing to go haywire when she's tight. It always seemed like making the jumps was more incidental rather than proper technique and consistency, but I thought she had turned the corner on all that. Now this.
Poor girl, she broke down psychologically. Not good at the jumps and the jumps are very important in skating. She´s very elegant and expressive and has a very good pirouettes, but has to work their jumps and her nerves in the competition. I prefer Nagasu for competion, she is a more complete skater because she´s elegant, but also has good jumps.
Great elegance, but the skaters said the ice was too brittle, probably the temperature was set wrong. Ice has 15 different types or "phases". (See the Wiki article on ice.) The ISU should find the best temperature for ice and demand uniformity of ice conditions at meets. And next year the USA will, ahem, have Gracie Gold and one other skater--Wagner it looks like (unless it's Nagasu). Exciting contest. And Monte Carlo is just 10 miles up the road on the Cote d'Azure!
Yes, she needs a dynamite jump coach. Then Alissa will be back on top. She has the best spirals and spins in the biz. I hope she picks good music this next time too, symphonic music with rising crescendos. Her music this last season was too tepid for her, she needs a style redolent of Romanticism with a lot of flourishes.
i couldnt help but shed a tear for her. we should understand that she was under pressure and nerves. and still managing to finish the program and holding the tears is brave of her. she deserves an applause for making it to worlds again; every skater in the competition actually.
I actually like Alissa's choreography, and spins. My sister says she's boring and the only good thing about her are her spins, but I don't know, as I've said, I also like her choreography. I believe she had a big chance in the podium (but maybe not gold) IF ONLY she doesn't fail on the jumps. Caroline Zhang probably would've been a better choice but who knows..
Why is she still with that coach? It is so heartbreaking to see that the falls are ruining her chance at competing against other athletes! She is so beautiful, but the falls are also having a negative effect at her ability to be competent. John Nicks would have worked extra hard on improving her jumps!
spins are just one element. I second the opinion that Caroline Zhang should have taken her place already, as Caroline is in top form right now. I don't know why they're sticking with Alissa, it looks to me like she has problems with her jumps that won't go away.
Haven't been able to watch the Live Streaming video for a FS. But from the scores she got, it looks like she totally fell apart in the FS. It looks like her final rank is going to be 22nd. Ans Ashely's is secured for the 7th now. If Ashley does not move up, there combined rank is going to be 22+7=29. Does that mean one spot for the US ladies next year?
Alissa said she's not retiring, she'll be back next year. She was invited to World Team Trophy but Jason decided she shouldn't go. They're obviously going to work on her jumps. The ice was frozen wrong at Worlds (incompetent stagehands were probably a bunch of high school dropout druggies, as is usually the case if you've ever worked showbiz) and Alissa had sustained an injury at Grand Prix Final. I hope she choses good, inspirational music next year instead of this boring elevator music!
This just in--an MRI has just revealed that Alissa had a torn labrum of the left hip, if she had known about it she wouldn't have competeed at Worlds. She'll have surgery but recovery time is long so she's only been given one Grand Prix assignment so far for next season. All you nay-sayers, tsk, tsk.
Yes she is injured and didn't know. She felt sore here and there but thought it was just from training. Give her time from her recovery cause I know she will be one of the top contender for United States. GO ALISSA!!!! 2014 OLYMPIC
It's the damn jumps. I think she was trained wrong on the jumps initially, then a patch job was made and now she falls. She needs a jump expert to teach her all over again. Everything else is superb. I bet she has a great Freeskate though. If Alissa and Wagner pull off top notch Freeskates they can still get the USA 3 spots. And where's the crowd? This is Nice, France, the second most popular tourist city in France, 10 miles from Monaco. There should be more folks at this sp.
She is today's SASHA COHEN! Very gorgeous skater, nice choreography, nice spins, nice everything, except that she can't land her jumps! And I think her male coach is hot though. But I feel sad watching this, but still, best spins in the world. Too bad spins alone won't make you a world champion =C
I think the other girls may have been laying head trips on her. It's Worlds so there will be a lot of Psy Ops (Psychological Operations) from the other skaters.
I agree, will the USFSA keep her in the the team? I never thought she was very talented just good in the spins and flexible, the young russians and the japanese are way better than her. Why didn't Zawadsky replace her?
Alissa Czisney is obviously injured here. However she remains the most beautiful skater there currently is. Karolina Kostner should take a few tips from Alissa on music and costume selection. She is the best spinner there is.
The skaters remarked that the ice was "brittle". --That's difficult ice to skate on. Alissa is a sensitive skater, she's like the canary in the coal mine. Bad ice would unbalance her more than others. I suppose some day they'll invent rubber ice.

This matter isn't going to be resolved until I hold Alissa Czisny above my head at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris yelling "Sanctuary, sanctuary!"
My heart broke for her
At least her spins are really good.

what are you talking about? Karolina always has great costumes and almost all the foreign TV commentators mentioned it. Even US commentators did.
We all knew she was going to totally screw up bigtime sometime or other eventually, and Worlds is certainly the place...

Nick's didn't do much for Sasha's jumping technique,

Disgusting commentary about stagehands.
She's still world champ for spins. No other skater comes close to her on spins talent.
Hermesacat Except for Lucinda!
Hermesacat And Mirai in the early part of her career had ridiculous spins... Her layback alone

The surgery was a success. Alissa will be back in 4 months. Meantime, an unexpected vacation...

we'll make a spinning competition then

Poor Alissa. Hope she will overcome her problems next season and will not finish her career after this one.

it must have been so hard to skate till the very end and she did it. and gave a smile to the audience.
Caroline Zhang would've stood a better chance.
An absolute heart breaker to see Alissa fall so many times!
