Maybe the most viewed highlight because many NFL Primetime fans were trying to get the song that was used for this highlight. Eventually it did get identified as Theighs Mon by John Colby.
I hate that the NFL changed the tiebreaker process to eliminate this scenario from happening again. I guess the league is worried of something similar happening on the opposite spectrum, where a team allows another to win, or win big. It'll open up a whole debate of fair play or honest competition.
Has there ever been another scenario like this where points matter as much as winning? All I can think of is 1979 between the Bears and Redskins. Chicago snatches the last wild card berth by blowing out St. Louis while DC loses a squeaker to Dallas.
The tiebreaker structure now goes like this: If both teams in the same division finish with the same record, then the team that won the most division games wins the division title. If both teams in the same division finish with the same record and finish with the same in-division record, then the division title goes to the team that had won the most game inside their own conference. With this structure, the AFC schedules are very uneven. I believe by the time the league eliminated the Week 17 MNF game and moved the Super Bowls to February permanently, the league also eliminated the net points system in their tiebreaker scenarios.
@@lisgod3 Given that Carolina beat Green Bay earlier that season, why did it even come to this? Shouldn't the Panthers have already owned the tiebreaker based on that?
@@redpillfreedom6692 considering that, yeah. Doesn't make sense when you put it like that. EDIT: "Dallas had the tiebreaker over GB and CAR. But GB and CAR were both tied in all tiebreakers. So if GB and CAR tied for the second wild card at 8-8 the playoff team would be decided by season point differential. Green Bay had an 18 point lead on Carolina going into the game."
The famous "We need more points" highlights. One of the best highlights I have ever seen. Boomer was really on his game for these highlights.

The greatest highlight in the history of sports

When someone identified and uploaded that song, I was so happy

If you didn't have the over/under in over in these two games, you were not a great bettor.
Also 14 carries, 7 yards. Wow Ricky. Very impressive.
Ditka: LET'S GO FOR TWO!
I still hate Mike Ditka. It's fitting that in Ditka's last game as Saints coach, Ricky Williams had just 7 yards on 14 carries.
I think Mike Ditka was trying to help Carolina with that onside kick down 45-13 😂😂😂
Can we just continue to conveniently forget that all of this ended up being for nothing becsuse Dallas won?
Yes, the race for points! Can you imagine how fun this would be watching now on Red Zone?
I could see them doing a split screen type scenario but then again that would be messy
I know Hansen would be having a lot of fun with the scenario.
Truly the "Witching Hour"
“LET’S SCORE SOME POINTS!”
Ray Rhodes' last game as Packers HC, Mike Ditka's last game as HC, and Jake Delhomme's last NFL start until week 2 of the 2003 season.
Ray Rhodes did not do as well for this team as he did for the Eagles his first 2 years there.
delhomme's last start till 03 ironically with the panthers.
In Ditka's last game as Saints coach, his bride Ricky Williams had just 7 yards on 14 carries for a solid 0.5 average.
As much NFL history as I know, I didn't know about these games. Happy to know about it now.
I'm guessing this is the only time NFL Primetime focused on two games simultaneously.
NO/CAR Announcers: Curt Menefee and Brian Baldinger

THE. GREATEST. The best moment in Primetime history! WE NEED MORE POINTS!
WE NEED MORE POINTS!
This was like college football. Keep running up the score to improve your ranking.
Point scoring marathon hoping to make the playoffs
I still don't get how this never happened again
The NFL changed the rules a few years later regarding tiebreakers so sadly this can never happen again, technically...but this highlight is amazing
