Hi Jim. First of all I am happy to see you are doing well and getting ready for next season. It's always exciting to follow you along on your journeys. Wrecking a camera is never fun and I can see why you chose the camera. The cost has gone through the roof. It's easy to spend $600.00 on just one camera. Thanks for sharing the information and we will catch you on your next video.
I'll be editing all winter and should be talking abut my plans for next summer around New Years. I would be out $800-1,000 Cdn. for the latest GoPro with the accessories I would need. You don't need a Porsche to drive to the store to get milk when a Kia Rio will do nicely.
Congratulations on your good fortune with the reduced-cost camera replacement! It's great, as always, to see your post pop up in my notifications. Ride safe in good health, and keep em' coming for those of us who ride vicariously through your adventures.
What do pilots say, "any crash you can walk away from is a good landing". Back on the road in half an hour with just some bruising and a ruined jacket. But it did it's job!
12:20 - if you take some foam and tuck it around the microphone hole (between the M and O buttons on the top) with rubber bands the wind noise will be much better, I have the same camera and the wind noise was much worse without the foam. You still hear the wind with the foam, but it is no longer overdriven and clipped
I've done that before and I do have a foam cover somewhere in my storage. Gotta pull it back out. I don't mind it so much on the trailer cam but what I need to do is look at the helmet cam noise. I am running with the lavalier mic taped inside the chin. It's ok up to about 45 mph/70 kph with the visor down but once the visor is up or I an at higher speed, it just doesn't cut it. The Wolfamg has it''s own wiring for mics so a highend noise cancelling mic is not available. Mind you, even GoPro 10/11/12 users with the media setup have somewhat the same problem. Luckily I have the facilities to do voice overs in post production.
Good video Jim you UA-camrs have a lot of money invested in equipment to show us awesome videos and I appreciate it thanks. Just watched Larry from Gold wing moments he showed his setup for doing videos thanks to you guys for doing that take care hope you’re having a great weekend
Had a great weekend. I'll have to check Larry's setup. It's easy to get a lot of money tied up in equipment. One needs to watch out. Action cameras are like potato chips. Hard to have only one.
Here's an old trick from a photographer. Fill the scratches in with black ink, or crayon. If you stop the light from the scratches from coming, you will have a surprisingly good picture.
Wow, that was a dramatic start to the video Jim........You ve definately had great luck with those cheap cameras Jim.........and the do suprisingly well..........
Gotta hook them somehow Bryan. I won't do that a lot lol. If you look at the specs and take all the so-called reviews with a grain of salt it is surprising what you can find out there. I don't shoot higher than 1080 p and I don't want Holloywood stability. They do a very good job. I still haven't pushed them and played with all the settings.
@OldGuyonaBike thank you for your subscription much appreciated. I'll be doing more reviews on Wolfang products very soon which includes the GA420 and GA460 as I've already done a review on the GA440 Again many thanks
I got the Dji action3 and got action4 this year , I run a year behind since I can get discount on them when they put the new ones out....but your camera do super well and your video is very good.
I really appreciate this video. I’ve wanted to get a camera to start documenting some of my rides. Like you I’m a bit thrifty. Don’t want to spend a fortune. I think the Wolfgang might serve my purpose!
On this day it might have. The underwater housing would have been toast. Later on in the trip, if it was in the underwater housing in the sun with some days getting in the very high 30Cs, I think it would have just cooked itself. Because it can take water up to 15 ft. without the housing I felt comfortable about leaving it esposed. No one plans for this kind of accident lol. I have to note that the 420 on my helmet took all the rainstorms thrown at it even with the side door open so I could plug in the external mic.
I bought the Wolfang 420 after your reviews months ago, havent had much opportunity to moto blog yet, but curious if when you showed the footage in the dark before boarding the ferry if that was just making use of the cameras internal mic. If so, not bad when its chin mounted outside
I have the lavalier mic in the helmet in front of my mouth. That's what I was suing in that footage with a few comments as voice overs. It works quite well up to around 70 kph/45 mph when my visor is down. After that, wind noise sucks but I am still playing with extra foam on the mic. For the price they are damned goood units. Rugged too. I was in a lot of rain with the mic connection door open and did not have any issues. When I had the accident, the helmet cam and mount came off the helmet resulting in a bent mic connector. This was loose and will give me some problems later in the trip when I didn't notice. One big note: always go into the menu and select external setting for mic if you are using the lavalier. If you don't you get silence and vice versa if you are using it without the lavalier make sure it is on internal mic. Have fun with it.
I wished I would have known you were camera shopping? I just got a DJI Osmo Action 4 for $200 that is blowing my mind - easily a $400 camera for a budget price - oh well :(
lol I didn't know I was camera shopping... Amazon knew! Don't forget with exchange your $200 would be $260+ Cdn. Also, in keeping with my philosophy of keeping it simple... all my cameras use the same battery. I am actually very pleased with this camera.
I’m like you I wait a year and buy, the new ones sometimes have bug’s to be worked out plus the price, I run two action 3’s with a host of cheaper cameras
In just two weeks, the length of days begins to extend! I can only imagine the joy that December 21 must bring up on the Rock.
The sun is setting here today at 4:20 pm. There will be great joy after the 21st.
Old Guy on a bike. Great to hear you again. I can't miss your thoughts. Keep up doing what u Love. Victor fan number one at South Africa.
Well, I certainly will have to put this new camera to use so I will be riding and camping next summer for sure!

Posting ride videos is the only way I make it through the winter!
Ouch - glad you’re ok Jim!

That's the brand of Camera I went with Jim at your recommendation.
I hope that it works for you are much as they have worked for me... except for the smashing of course.

The Wolfang 420 has served me well. I like having the two batteries with it and you can get another 2 and charger inexpensively on Amazon.
Great vlogs. Do you think leaving it in the under water housing may have protected it from the damage? UK. 🇬🇧

glad your still enjoying yourself, have you had 1 or 2 crashes?
On the road last year, I had what I consider 2 minor crashes and an incident. OK, maybe 3. Not bad for 3 months traveling lol.
