  • I had a good night’s sleep at Dolly Copp Campground in White Mountains National Park just outside Gorham, NH. My shoulder and side are feeling a little bruised from putting down the bike in the rain yesterday. It’s going to be a sunny hot day as I go through New Hampshire, Vermont and New York State. Tonight, I will be staying with a subscriber, Chuck and his wife Kat. I am making a little deviation to grab a bite and a chat with Ross and Alix near St. Albans. Detours in Vermont got me turned around a little and I probably added over an hour to my ride on the detours and roads under construction. Although I have sworn to not ride after dark, it will be well after dark before I get off the road today.

    I'm with you about traveling after the sun goes down. I used to enjoy it, now, not so much. A friend told me about the rule of 3's when traveling. No more than 300 miles, be off the road by 3, and then rest 3 days.
    Thanks for bringing us along on your journey

      I'm more 3, 6, 6... the 300 miles/500km is a good day for me, 6 hours of saddle time max outside of meals and gas stops, every 6th day is a 2 day campsite depending on visiting friends or attending rallies. That's my goal but you know how it goes with goals. Then there are days when you listen to your body and let it dictate your pace.

    Hey Ross and Alex! I'm from SW Indiana and have ridden to Newfoundland twice. You've got to make that ride and remember; the adventure doesn't really begin until you tie the bike down on the ferry. It is a marvelous destination. Gros Morne, L'Anse Meadows and the eastern coast Puffins make the ride remarkable. But the single thing you'll leave with is the knowledge that the people of Newfoundland are THE friendliest in the world. It is truly a great destination for anyone, but especially motorcyclists. If I weren't 74, I'd do it again.

      I spent a lot more time in Nova Scotia during my 106 Days on the Road in 2022. Originally from Liverpool. I think next year I will spend more time in the Atlantic provinces and save long, long trips for a couple of years.

    Hey there Jim, another long day on the bike. Like you, I try to never ride at night although it do happen at times. The risk of hitting a deer is always something to think about. Good to see you find time to visit friends and subscribers. I bet you guys had a fantastic visit. Look forward to your next video. Take care.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  2 дні тому

      I haven't yet. Seriously considering as I will need new rubber in the spring. With my sort of riding and the trailer it might make sense. There may be a clearance issue with my hitch, so a lot to consider.

  • @Hooghol
    @Hooghol 2 дні тому

    Hi Jim Great footage! can you perhaps give us some info on your bike trailer set up I.e. trailer weight and if you use a brake controller for the trailer meaning do you have electrical brake on the trailer?
    I have the same bike but a Aspen classic tent trailer and would just like to see my trailer brake options.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  2 дні тому

      I guess I need to do a full trailer video in the spring. I have answered this many times in the comments in the past whille. The Mini Mate comed in about 260 lb. and with my load I seem to be around 450-500 lb. with a full cooler. Tongue weight is consistantly 60 lb. +/- 2 lb.. There are no brakes on the MM. I don't think it's weight justifies the added brake weight and the maintence required. But, that's just me. If I was hauling more than 600 lb. I would start thinking of trailer brakes.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  2 дні тому +1

      I've got a Spot Gen 3. think I've had it since 2019? I don't have it so much for emergency use as much as to see where I have actually been and so the family can see I am still moving.

    Please, I love the scenery in your travels, I really like the voice over that your doing, but it's absolutely impossible to get the music that everyone loves so perhaps it would be better to hear the bike and the sound of the road. Safe Travels.

    • @OldGuyonaBike
      @OldGuyonaBike  2 дні тому

      The toughest thing is to try to please everyone. Or any one. I've just upgraded from free royalty free music which was more elevatorish. I do try to pick music that fits my mood while editing and the pace of the video. My taste in music is not everyone's. I know some channels only have heavey rock and metal under their rides... too much for me. As to engine sound, it's a Honda Goldwing and the bike before was a Honda ST1300... they have a purr or whine and I would have complaints that no one wants to hear a sewing machine. They do not have that deep Harley "potato potato potato" sound and aren't real motorcycles. The main sound of the road is wind. You are right "it's absolutely impossible to get the music that everyone loves" so I will continue to underscore with music that I like. The funny thing is I get many more comments on how much people like the total package. Sorry it does not work for you.
