100% it’s a 10/10 story an absolutely beautiful piece of media, but as a game you physically play and interact with its mind numbingly boring the majority of the time.
I genuinely think that the people that like this game too much hate video games. They think that the story is the most important thing rather than the heart of video game which is the gameplay. The first rdr is better than the second
100% agree, I'm generally not a fan of this narrative/realistic/movie like video games, they're just NOT video games, if you want a game like that, just go and watch a movie !
And I would say, it's not even about narrative games being bad, I really like some narrative games, but that just doesn't fit the RDR franchise to me, especially when you played the first RDR and you try the second one, it feels like a completely different franchise, a completely different type of game !
RDR 2 is too much narrative/story driven imo. The gameplay on the other hand, is not that great !

@@Alilnoided99 Yep, and the irony is the classics did it better in terms of more imaginative stories and dynamic storytelling (through gameplay, true dynamic choices, actually interactive worlds etc). Then somewhere along the line the modern gaming industry threw all that away and downgraded the medium to be mere scripted movies pretending to be games. RDR2 not only lacks progression/levelling-up, creative level design, challenge, fun creative traversal, etc - the game's story and premise does everything it can to kill your desire for any of these things in the first place.

@JG9UA-cam oh I forgot to say that. The whole one game ruined other games for me. How can one game ruin other games? Make it make sense. If anything it did ruined the gameplay aspect of that game rdr2.
I have attempted to playthrough RDR2 4 times since it released on PC and each time I restart because it was a long gap from when I last played it that I feel like starting mid game is pointless as I would have 0 connection to what was going on but every time I try it again I am just bored out of my mind, that prologue is garbage, it's not just that the movement speed overall is slow it's the fact that even though this is an open world game they want you to do everything their way, they want you to stop moving forward to stop you and throw more dialogue at you, after the first train robbery you get into a wagon and go to the camp site and all of a sudden the wheel breaks off then you gotta watch these grandpas slowly walk over to the wheel and put it back in just so you can have a random nothing cutscene that takes control away again. This last time remembering that part I just couldn't take it, the game is complete ass.
You can dislike the game, sometimes a game just isn’t for everyone. But just because it isn’t to your taste doesn’t mean that it’s garbage.
The game purposefully takes it’s time to ground and immerse you within its story, the slow pace of chapter 1 is partly to get you to feel the struggle of the Van Der Linde gang, and see these characters that you’ll spend the next 40+ hours with at their weakest and most vulnerable.
Having said that, sometimes people just don’t want that from a game, some people just prefer a faster paced action packed shooter, opposed to a slow paced and immersive narrative based cowboy game. The game takes its time, it wants you to really play pretend as Arthur Morgan, and that is a lot easier to get into, if you are focused on the narrative and interested by it.
By the way here, I’m not suggesting the game is perfect, it definitely has its flaws in some areas such as mission design, and although in my opinion, most of the gameplay is pretty good, at least for my tastes, I can understand why some may dislike it.
But despite of all that, I personally think that this is one of the best stories ever told in the video game medium. Obviously I’m not gonna go in depth and explain why exactly that is here, but I’d appreciate it if you could just trust me on that part.
Overall though, I don’t it’s right to call the game bad, I think the game just isn’t to your taste, as games obviously aren’t made for everyone.

I 100% agree with you and I feel exactly the same, I don't know exactly why too, but yeah I attempted multiple times to try this game, I actually was a fan of the first RDR, and idk why but RDR 2 I just can't... Maybe this is just me, or maybe the prologue didn't appealed to me, too much talking, too much cinematics ? Idk exactly why, but the game simply just wasn't fun at all to me.
I'm really liked most of R* titles but RDR 2 is one of the rarest title with Max Payne 3 that I just can't find the fun out of it and I quickly quit !
The gameplay is complete aah cheeks. Very boring, very easy, the gameplay has no challenge whatsoever. It's like your just doing tasks to get to the next portion of the story with cutscenes. I can't fathom how this game got all the hype it got.

Thinking RDR2's gameplay is boring is legit 100% a skill issue, I can easily play this game for 8+ hours straight and not feel the time pass, the only reason I don't replay it more is bc of how sad the story is

@@bretmaverick9434 99% of rdr1's missions are filler, it took like a dozen missions for John to even start attacking the fort, rdr2 is undeniably better in this regard. combat is debatable, control is smoother in rdr1 sure, but rdr2 is still better in a lot of things and that's just a fact dude. never understood this trend of people just saying "old game good, new game bad" like it's so corny tbh

Tbf if their criticism had more details , it could be seen as more valid . Even ppl that love RDR2 do hv some issues with the movement and the gameplay. The most common argument for sub-par movement is the cover mechanic and having to button smash to run . Boring is the fact that missions are VERY scripted . Allowing very little player freedom and creativity.

The first RDR is one of my favorite games of all time, but it took me multiple attempts to get through RDR2 because of how boring it is. The plot doesn't properly start until the end of chapter 4, and up until then it's just pointless meandering. Does anyone actually enjoy the whole "pretending to be deputies" arc or the grays and braithwaites section? Then the game is so on rails that it might as well just be a movie. Sure, there's the honor system, but that has about as much depth as Infamous, which is pretty much none, because all of the choices you can make get reduced to one choice-good or bad-and then you pick those options for the rest of the game.
I think a lot of the enjoyment hinges on how you feel about the characters. I don't find Arthur interesting or even likeable until the TB starts kicking in, and Dutch is very clearly off his rocker from Chapter 1, so most of the game for me was just waiting for stuff to start happening, and no, inconsequential characters like Sean dying don't really count. John isn't really the same man as he is in RDR yet and the rest of the gang is just bland to me, they feel more like real people than the wacky characters in the first game but in a way that just makes them dull. I'd much rather interact with someone like Seth or Reyes than any of the gang members from RDR2.

I like rdr2 but I can understand why some people see it as boring, because it doesn't have basic features that exist in rdr1 such as the nightwatch activities and unlimited bounty hunting activities that add so much more fun and the ability to rob banks in freeroam, and limiting some stuff to online like the navy revolver and the ponchos ect... and some side quests and challenges are so fucking ass such as the exotics side mission and the gambler 9 challenge, it's just tedious and not fun. but that doesn't make the game bad for me although I find it fucking stupid that they didn't add this stuff.
Exactly. And linear ass missions that fail u for trying to do anything independently. Long ass horse rides tapping x for an hr shooting hundreds of guys. Rinse repeat
@@theraiden1018 that didn't bother me as much if at all, long horse rides can help you find new stuff in the game, I usually hunt on my way to a destination and find some random encounters and special locations. You can always use the train station and stagecoach but I don't have much problem in long horse rides tbh but the fact that the horse deliberately crashes into a tree on it's own or walk away from you when you try to mount it suck, one time this happened and the horse fell off a cliff and almost died

It is too slow and movement/ controls are janky it’s not 10/10 or even close.
Currently on my second play through and honestly, I now feel that RDR 2 is saved by some amazing writing and incredible graphical details. Else from gameplay prospective, it doesn’t feel like an action adventure game but a tedious life simulator.

He really said "amazing writing" 🤣🤣🤣. The game is such a boring mediocre slop. I'm 30% in it with a lot of hrs in, & the only reason I'm forcing myself to play it is because it took 11hrs to install, I spent way too much time installing it to just to delete it without atleast beating it 😅

The problem is here, RDR 1 was NOT a narrative game at all, most of R* titles are not narrative games, RDR 2 is the first R* titles that I played that had so much narrative and cinematics, honestly let's be honest, story is a cool addition in GTA/RDR games, but the gameplay is the primary concerns, especially when you're not a native english speaker like me, and still rely on subtitles bcs I don't always understand what characters are saying during cinematics, so for me having a game with more cinematics and narrative is even more boring to follow and understand !
GTA never was a narrative franchise, and the same for the first RDR, this is why RDR 2 was a strange choice to me bcs GTA/RDR fans were not waiting for this, I mean I love narrative games, but not for this type of games, and especially open world games, bcs to me narrative is incompatible with open world games, a narrative game should be on rail, and should be really scripted, just like a movie, but in a game like RDR 2 when the main selling point of the open world is the fact you want to mess around, adding too much narrative just make the game longer for nothing, adding more and more boring cinematics and scripted stuff to a game already that huge to explore just kill the mood to me !
Also the prologue was a weird choice to me, bcs it was wayyy too slow, wayyy too long, the snow, the boring cart we drive to go to our camp close to Valentine... so much stuff that I was like: "When is the game actually start ?"
The first 30 minutes of the game/movie is really important, this is the moment when you catch your spectator/player, and in RDR 2 the prologue didn't catched me at all !
The prologue with all the characters etc... is the type of thing I would rather like in a early/mid game thing to learn about, but not for a prologue, a prologue should be simple, don't introduce too much characters in one go, not too much talking/cinematics/non necesarry animation (just like the wheel that detach from the cart when going to valentine, completely useless and just make the player even more bored when he just want to actually play the game lol).
Well maybe that's just me, but RDR 2 didn't catched my attention, I got so much bored already of the first 30 minutes, that I didn't lasted that much on the game, I made some missions here and here in Valentine and never restarted the game since.

When it first came out, I got fooled by the marketing and hype for the game and bought it instantly.
I regretted it almost right away.
I really wanted to give the game a chance as I never want to waste my money on games as they get more and more expensive, but the game literally bored me to death. As a 30-year-old man that has responsibilities and limited time to play games, I don’t want to play a game that is a real life simulator and that demands me to brush my horse, brush my teeth’s, trim my beard and watch a 2min cutscenes of Arthur butchering a deer. They went way too far with the realism, and I think it is a huge disservice to the game.
I honestly don’t understand people calling it a “masterpiece” and the “greatest game ever”. I really think that it’s a huge cope on their part but I’m not there to hate, I just want to give my opinion and if people enjoyed the game than so be it. I’m happy for them.
Max payne 3 has the best gunplay imo with rdr2 close second . This is just me as well though , max Payne 3’s gunplay was so addictive and fun rdr2’s was fantastic don’t get me wrong but like gta it just felt like it was ‘there’ probably because max Payne 3 is all about shooting and rdr2 is OBVIOUSLY about more than just shooting

Too slow-paced, hell you can't even save the game before finishing the prologue, which forces you to sit there for 2-3 hrs. I know the technical aspect is top-notch! But who cares if the gameplay is crap? Then the lack of vehicles, which makes the GTA games more enjoyable for me. The environment looks boring and is not distinctive at all. So overall this is not a game it is a third-person over the shoulder horse riding and walking simulator.
The people that say rdr2 is boring are the same people that buy the new cod every time one comes out

Clearly that man doesn't know how to rob a train. See, you'll want to put on a mask, rob a singular carriage of its passengers or of its safe (Only passenger cars have valuable people or safes to rob), then you get off and run in the direction the train is going to get away from the cops, then you jump on another carriage and rob all over again. If you're bad honor, you can even kill the guards before getting on to get a small amount of more time to get away (Rockstar just says so, I don't notice a big difference so far though). It's real therapeutic, scratches the honorable bandit/dishonorable bandit part of the brain this game is trying to itch.

If it was glitchy, the loot from the safe and the NPCs would respawn, but they don’t respawn and they stay empty.

They’ll immediately know the train is being robbed even in the middle of nowhere and that Arthur is robbing it. Even if you’re wearing a mask. Which isn’t like how it was advertised.

I really wish they just fixed that part about the wanted system because the bounty hunters are annoying af when trying to do missions or explore. If u make a camp they will b there when u wake up. Other than that it’s not that bad

TLDR: the Gameplay is nothing special and the story isn’t perfect but the world of Red Dead 2 is amazing and has a lot of detail to explore.
I think the gameplay is a little to be desired sometimes, the button layout feels a bit lazy since one button can do about 6 different things and leads to easy miss inputs.
The story has its moments, Arthur is one of my favourite protagonist in any game.
It’s visually stunning with a lot of small hidden details and it’s all backed up by amazing ambience and sound that brings out a lot in those details.
The game also has a great soundtrack as well has a great casting of actors, giving us some of the most memorable moments in the story, both cinematically and in gameplay.
I love the movement in rdr2 more than Gta v where I feel like a turtle when turning

I’ve beat this game over five times it’s amazing. Yes the game can be slow but the world is immersive .
It's weird because with the Previous Red Dead redemption with John Marston I felt invested in the story and character the whole way though. With RDR 2 I felt the story at the start was interesting, but Arthur terribly dull, then the story started betting boring and dragging on but Arthur suddenly becoming interesting as he was dying, then the story just wouldn't fuckin end!
Arthur Morgan just felt like a Main character in a Red Dead Redemption Fanfic.

I love Red Dead 1 but the second game was just so boring. Everything just is way too slow. But what really ruined the game for me was the Multiplayer. RD1 had one of the best multiplayer modes ever. Plenty of awesome playable characters to choose and amazing game modes. Multiplayer in RD2 was just so dead.

people that aint really into RDR2 im fine with, but than the mfs that hate RDR2 for "being too realistic" or "Being a boring cowboy game" i cant stand, like if you dont wanna play a good game than look away from rockstar games and look at a different game company

Nah, RDR 2 IS Boring, unironically. Everything is so damn slow. Spen 10 seconds killing 10 O'Driscolls, spend 1minute looting each of their bodies. Spend 2 seconds killing an animal spend 30seconds running up and skinning it. Brushing the horse, making camp, looting 500 cupboards and draws to make a buck, then you do the bank mission early and make money mostly irrelevant. Cant run in camp (why), have to hitch your horse (why). The overall story was the worst part of making the game feel boring though, it takes sooo long for it to pick up the pace. I have tried to play RDR2 Four times now, replaying the start three times. The start is the worst part of the game, it does get better after the first town, the city seems cool then the story really slows down. The raid on the farm is cool but the lead-up is boring. So much of it had me falling asleep and wanting to close the game despite the amazing visuals and fun gunplay.
Don't you think thats a clear case of a game not being for you? Something objectively boring will make the majority (if not all) bored. The tempo is perfect for a narrative masterpiece as emotions are convened even in SIDE MISSIONS and all those elements yiu complained are RP elements that people enjoy doing even today. I love having to maintain the horse and make camp. That's how the game is supposed to be paid. Slowly and deliberate. It isn't an ADHD shooter. You can't judge it as such

I understand that you don't like the game, but like the other two comments say the game plays in the wild West so it makes sense that weapons are Shooting not fast or that you have to wait a few seconds for looting a person or skining an animal

Maybe it has best story ever i never experienced it fully cause i was SO bored. I started rdr2 twice and both times dropped it. The most boring game made for people who like netflix and watching movies more then games. Rdr1 is much more fun

@@cantinadudes nope. Playing ghost of tsusima now, and cant stop doing it. Played like 60 hours and never had a thought to drop it. Because it has fun GAMEPLAY! Not like push dead eye button kill everyone in sight and then go loot them for 10 minutes because it it is soooo immersive

@@cantinadudes yeah it is about so much more and it has a great story and characters etc but it is BORING af. Rdr1 was arcady and it is a great GAMEPLAY choise for wild west shooter, and rdr2 is a simulator of wild west life + netflix series inside. Simulators are never fun, it is like playing arma and immersivly sit in bush for 4 hours instead of playing battlefield (not 2042 it is crap) or rising storm if you more on realistic side. Core gameplay in rdr2 is not fun for me personaly, good and fun gunplay was in max payne 3, rdr2 is not even near btw
@@artpropaganda420i understand you point put the more arcade than realistic times for Rockstar Games are most likely over, GTA IV was in a new era with more realistic physics but i think most people hated the driving (saying it drives like a boat) years later people hated the arcade like driving in GTA V and said that GTA IV driving was better
RDR1 is a better game for me personally because its a lot more fun gameplay wise and i prefer John over Arthur and the rdr1 side characters and its OST but i also never understood hate for 2 like that much. When I played it on PC i enjoyed it and had a good time with the open world and more dynamic NPCs in the world.

Infinite lawmen spawn so ur making no progress and there’s no accomplishment after killing all the law
The gunplay and gameplay suck it’s clunky and shaky and way too easy you can spam deadeye and enemies die way too easily to some guns
