Just started getting into buying old vintage lighters and your channel has been extremely informative especially when it comes to these old lighters. I got two of these case lighters and they're really awesome. Awesome work
Awesome video for an eye catching piece of equipment!
i have this exact same case from my great grandma.
Can you show how to replace the wick in one?
is that included in the video?
Bought an evans lighter/case at some online auction for like $1.75, hopefully I can fix it up after watching this!
They are not too difficult to repair though you may need some replacement parts if some of the components are broke. Let me know how it goes!✌️
@@DependableFlame cleaned it up like u did I the video, put some nice new flint in it, and got some fluid and she works great now! Thanks dude
Looks nice
What if the little screws are flat? Can I still repair?
If the fulcrum screws have been replaced by rivets what is the best way to proceed? Should I try and drill them out and replace them?
If it has rivets they are probably there from the factory, can be very difficult to get out. Can you tell if the flint tube is obstructed?✌️
@@DependableFlame it won't spark so my guess would be yes, also the wheel could use a cleaning. Is there any way to de-obstruct the flint tube without disassembling the mechanism?
I have a vintage Evan's cigarette case + lighter just like this and it works great, but the lighter fluid leaks. Is there supposed to be an o-ring on the fluid chamber cap? Also, I noticed my lighter doesn't have the cotton wadding inside, just what look like really small chips of something brown in the bottom 1/4 of the chamber. Could that be the problem? Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the question! I currently only answer repair questions on my website but will be glad to answer if you will ask this same question in the comments section below this article:

You can ask below any other article on DependableFlame.com as well.
I look forward to hearing from you over there!✌️
I've an older looking version, no spring top for flint strike, no flint screw inside, can't figure how to open it
Send some photos, hopefully I can be of help:

What is the name of the video at 0:09? That looks like a lighter case I bought it was called 1950's Ronson Pal Enamel Art Deco Style Cigarette Case / Lighter in the listing I got it from. I want to know how to fix it in case of anything but there’s no screw on the bottom like I’ve seen in most tutorials. Any help?
And I meant the one with the silver back not the mother of pearl looking lighter :)
What’s the worth of this exact Evans that you’re showing ?
In the shape this one was in, no more than $20-$25.✌️
Subscribed!
I appreciate it very much! I am glad you are along for the ride. Ask questions when you have them.✌️
@@DependableFlame thanks, i have a musical lighter so im unsure on where to start
What kind of fuel goes into these older lighters??
Liquid lighter fluid like Zippo or Ronsonol that you just pour underneath and saturate the wadding.✌️
Any idea how to replace the wick in one of these? I just tried to pull the existing wick and it disintegrated. I've watched the other videos, and I am at a loss on what to do.
No matter what lighter you are replacing the wick in, the wick has to go down the chimney and out the fuel hole. You tie a wire on the wick like I show here:
ua-cam.com/video/lNasCF-zIRM/v-deo.html
Then it's just a matter of feeding it down from the top and fishing the wire out where you fuel it. That will be on top also on some case/lighter combos. The principles are the same, regardless where the fuel hole is located, you just have to fish it out and stuff it back with wadding.✌️
@@DependableFlame I pulled out all the wadding, followed the instructions from your other video for the wick, and I was actually able to fish it through the chimney and into the tank. I replaced all the wadding, put everything back together (as per the instructions above), and it works! Thanks so much for all the tutorials; they definitely helped me figure this out. For reference, I am working on an Evans Trig-A-Lite case/lighter combo.
What kind of screwdriver did you use for removing the tiny ones?
A very small standard precision screwdriver.✌️
@@DependableFlame thank you, I’m having trouble with the wick, how can I replace that in one of these?
@@artrocks845, put the wick down the chimney and fish it out the fuel hole. This one may be a little harder to fish out than most. Have you changed the wick in a petrol lighter before?✌️
@@DependableFlame no but I will try it out tomorrow when I get the wicks in the mail.
@@DependableFlame thanks for the help.
Can I mail you my cigarette case for the lighter to be repaired?
