- Out with the old, in with new😎 The most reliable Rustler got modded out with the awesome Traxxas Maxx setup! Massive 4s capable esc, motor and gearing... now this already impressive machine is that much more awesome! Down sized the pinion,and this beast runs and runs and runs and runs like she's swimming laps............lol

I just got my first traxxas. Any advice for a new owner would be awesome!
That depends a lot on which model you got? Typically though, if it's a brushed system I upgrade to brushless thru the Traxxas power up program. Then I always upgrade the stock esc's. Some drivers have no issues, but a lot more do. So I preemptively upgrade to a hobby wing max6 or castle mmx 8s. But without knowing what you have, it's really hard to say.

That was my very first car! Yeah follow those upgrades and you'll be ok. I was more into speed, topping 96mph on 4s. Upgrade as you go, but mainly just have fun!🏎💨
What 4s you put in the rustler? Brand?

Hell yes I did the same till I burnt up the esc and motor, so it's got hobbywing 4s esc with a 6s motor at 2200kv, all I can say is it keeps up with the x max
I recently got the same ESC with the 540xl motor, but I can’t fit the ESC in there. What trick did you use?
Didn't take much, just snip a little piece of the plastic chassis and it went right in.
I did this to my hoss mine already has the bigger motor so I put the 4s ESC it from Traxxas put a 19 tooth pinion on it does 70 I'm also about to put a hobbywing Max 6 in my Sledge and I'm going to use the factory 6s ESC in the hoss after

Have you upgraded your differentials? When I went up to 4S on my rustler 4x4 my diffs started breaking after a few runs.
Yes I got rid of the slipper clutch long before this upgrade. I'm running steel diff, steel pinion, (bullet proof) aluminum hub carriers, and steel driveshafts. Small pinion so heat is nonexistent really.

Yessir it can be done quite easily. I'd run the Mmx8s esc (not the Traxxas 8s esc) and your choice of motor. My suggestion would be a smaller can castle motor. Maybe the 1520 can💨
