      Just found your channel tbe other day and watched your podcast with Phil champion, now this one and I’ve already seen so many others I want to watch, love how you ask and then give the person time to answer without cutting in on them , I also admire how for example in this interview you showed your emotions and were obviously wanting to cry at one point , some presenters would cut that out but I love that you keep it real and as much as a lot of these ppl have changed and it’s inspiring it’s also inspiring imo for younger ppl especially young men to realise yeah this presenter wanted to cry , that’s ok , infact it’s normal , there’s nothing wrong with a man crying bcos he’s lost a friend or hearing about abuse etc , infact it’s way better than bottling it up and looking for revenge.

      * Edit* The comment at the bottom was my original comment , if you read it, I explain why I’ve left it like this instead of just deleting it and writing as if I knew everything lol, I know it doesn’t mean much but I just feel in general these days we all just delete stuff and rewrite it as if we knew everything and are always right .
      If truth be told , I looked up google and seen I was totally wrong lol , my apologies, no idea why I thought armed forces but I see the first video on the channel is your story so that’s my next watch , just from reading a short article I can already see you have a very unique and special business mind .
      My original comment - Is there a video out there about your past? This is terrible but I only found your channel recently as I said but I’ve seen you before on stuff , for some reasons I want to say you were in the armed forces ? Can someone correct me if I’m wrong , I kkow Dodge might not have the time to but where is it I know him from ?

    The message I get from this is parents need to be parents. It wasn’t this guys fault that he was born into a dysfunctional Violante family, but look at how much pain and grief this guy lived through and gave out. How much pain, grief and death his community experienced through his behavior, his drugs and bullets and knives that he sold and possessed. Look at the amount of decent people, like the nurses, doctors and police, who had trauma in dealing with this one guys actions. Decent members of his community that had good parents and who knew right from wrong. If you have kids, don’t hide knives, teach them right from wrong and behave like good people.

    • @fredzep01
      @fredzep01 10 місяців тому +1

      Mate, if you know how desperate life could be for his mother and father as young adults in the North of England during
      the Eighties, you'd take back that comment.
      People had nothing, and I do mean nothing, and it badly hurt people's pride and sense of worth.
      What happened to Darryl happened to a lot of families throughout this great land, which was ruled by Tories Iron fist,
      and they seemed to a hate for the young people of the North.
      So when you say parents need to sit their children down and teach them right from wrong, in this era yes, that's a given.
      But back then, it became a bit of a tall order for some people, because their whole frame of reference was smashed into pieces, be it with self-medicating or bad mental health or just sheer desperation.
      For a lot of well-meaning parents, it can be a laborious task to teach a child right from wrong when the child witnesses the adults struggling and acting out in sheer desperation, so it's not a healthy environment to teach right from wrongs, because it's a home full of contradictions,
      Then there are some kids have it even worse at home, and they'll bring their frustration into the streets, and these boys and girls have peers, which then mutates into serious behavioral problems for all the youngsters involved.
      So as you see there was a much bigger picture, and a much bigger problem than just being able to instill right from wrong, especially when the kid can plainly see the parent being a hypocrite, because there's only so much you can hide from a kid in the home, which of course creates its own tension.
      It's no wonder some kids were doomed to fail before they even started.

    • @janephillips6031
      @janephillips6031 10 місяців тому +1

      @@fredzep01 I totally get that, and I don't think things are better now than they were decades ago, lots of families on the breadline. My point I'd that it's back to basics. Respect your community, help eachother and teach that to your kids.

    • @fredzep01
      @fredzep01 10 місяців тому

      @@janephillips6031 back then even the breadline was near unattainable to some households, and I don't just say that lightly, that's the truth.
      No it definitely is a lot better as far as work goes, and the quality of life has gotten better, but there's still a lot of folk suffering needlessly, and the kids are still being neglected, the frustrating thing is, how many times do we need to say there has to be some help for inner city youngsters, because there's nothing for them on a community level to be involved in.
      As we know youngsters follow trends, be it good trends or bad ones, so they'll happily drift into what ever culture the street guides them into, so you'd think the Government on a local level could understand this and step into that void, and provide communities with what's needed to invest in our children's welfare, instead of the local drug gang grooming the young exploiting them.
      If the country looked after the kids, the kids would look after the country.
      After all, the kids are also our future.

I was never involved in this life, but as someone who also grew up in the Hulme Crescents and then Moss Side, I knew many that were, including some who never made it through those times. I was born just up the road in gorton and back in the late sixties and through the seventies and the places my talks about were all decent communities the people were hard working nobody give a fxxk about your skin colour or where you came from we co existed together played together nobody had a pot to piss in , right up to thatcher and the tories who devastated the industry mass unemployment took hold and from that point on communities splintered and the rest is well documented, big respect to my man for the work he does, it’s guys and women like him who are going to bring about change,, the political class abandoned the people long ago so don’t look too them it isn’t going to come. Could you imagine what this guy could do with political and media backing

      Can't blame Thatcher for industry. UK in the 70s and early 80s was the sick man of Europe. UK was bankrupt after the war and only started recovering in the 60s. But then successive governments didn't invest in industry and society. By the time of Thatcher the damage was done, she had to deal with the outcome. She had many faults but some people like to ignore what happened before her. Ie the previous Labour government closed far more coal mines than she ever did. The UK was in a massive change from industry to service and financial industries and unfortunately traditional industry was discarded. Every government since has carried on with lack of investment including Blair who was a massive con man.

    Powerful and emotional podcast dodge. I cant help but feel, the pain he was feeling was inflicted on dozens of families in and around his area, at HIS hands. I cant feel sorry for him. Just cos he's changed doesnt mean he should be forgiven or felt sorry for. I just hope he can change the kids minds and stop them turning to knives,guns,drugs and crime.

    I spent a few years living in Hulme, not during the bullring days but from 93-99. He’s quite right, loads of Irish & black people living side by side. Good people, but hard people.
    My gran used to drink in the bars in Hulme and Moss Side & was a well known character round there.

    Most people in life have gone through shit and trauma though it doesn't give you the right to treat people bad. Believe me I wasn't brought up I was dragged up. I was in the care system for years been apoused and my partner got stapped the death seen my mother getting battered of my dad through drink and my sister dieing of drink though doe's that give me the right to take it out on other people. No. There's no excuse at all.

    Darryl mentioned when he was younger and was carrying a gun he felt he was the man .. Like to think he feels far more of a man now with the awareness to make changes to his life and the bravery to let his guard down and release the emotion he did .. takes a far bigger set of gonads to do that .. fair play .. keep it up .. good episode

    Look, I'm under no illusion that Darryl has been a proper naughty boy, but this man is hurting and it's so sad to see. Look after yourself Darryl. Your Mum loved Christmas and your birthday, maybe you could celebrate those days, not for you, but for your Mum, to celebrate her? Look after yourself fella.

    Shit, reading that you were conceived by the R word as your mum dies 😢 shit. Abused twice , man Honestly how can you blame him for going the way he did.
    Of course he’s done wrong , he admits it and I’m sure he’s done stuff I couldn’t imagine but i don’t pity you , I respect your honesty and i really think you will inspire a lot of ppl who are going through similar the now . As someone who’s been through similar abuse for this man to say that on here is brave .
    You can literally see him feeling the shame of some of the stuff he’s done , you can see it in his face and his eyes. I suppose no one really knows but I’d say I’m comfortable that this guy is truly one hundred percent reformed
