we learned something new today. Carpetbagger was in charge of the Hog Scraper.
I live about 15 minutes away from Dubuque! I’m so happy you came to visit the Mississippi River Museum! It’s a great museum and Dubuque is rich in history. I hope you had a great time! Thank you for visiting and showing what a beautiful city it truly is.
Thank you have George enjoy the ride with you down the river of the Mississippi
Jacob, you can take a riverboat dinner cruise in New Orleans. They take you a few miles up river and back while you eat. They have jazz bands perform
This was one of the first museums I remember visiting as a kid, thanks for doing a modern walkthrough nearly two decades later!
At 23:40...am I the only one who sometimes gets distracted by the background folks? Like this guy who wanders up the stairs only to, still looking lost, wander down the other side? :D
Ha! That was awesome
That lady demonstrating the different windmills was adorable, love it
The bullets were actually balls. The dropping from that height made the spheres perfect.
You've got some glorious weather today. Absolutely loving this tour of the Mississippi.
Yay Carpetbagger just posted! I await your videos everyday just to see what new place you're checking out. I love watching them as much as you love visiting these locations.
SAME 100%!!! Every day a new adventure, every day a lot of fun!!!
Traditionally, a ship had 3 or more masts while boats had fewer, however, since modern vessels don't use masts anymore, the difference is more along the line of size.
The beautiful Mississippi River 😊
Really loving this great river road series! Keep up the great work. Safe travels, man!
I'm absolutely loving this road trip, so interesting and lots of fun, thank you.
Hi Jacob 👋🏽 this is really interesting and informative. Thank You for inviting me to watch your video. Enjoy your day ‼️🙋🏽
Great video, Jacob. Very cool, looking forward to the next. Take care, my friend, and safe travels as always.
Jacob little dance always make me smile 😂
He's very light on his feet!
Jacob can sing, too!
That was the cutest sting ray ive ever seen. Your barge skills are very good Jacob. thank you always cool to see new places new adventures
What an awesome museum! The sting ray was adorable. ♥♥♥ I love all the nature and figures they brought in. The story about Mark Twain's name was very interesting, and the bullet tower was fascinating as well. Thank you for all the joy you bring!
Have a great trip, Jacob ❤️
I would love too go too this museum
This is great. I dig the whole romance of the Mississippi River, paddlewheelers, and all of that, largely due to Mark Twain. That museum looks awesome and I'm looking forward to when you get down to Hannibal!
Really enjoyed the first installment of this trip.
Wow, what an incredible video. The content was so amazing Jacob. Keep up your wonderful work. My wife and I really enjoy your journey. This has been one of our favorites so far.
Vessels intended for navigation of coastal and inland waters are generally called boats, while ocean-going vessels are generally called ships.
I meant "fish," not "fist." Thanks for taking us to this fantastic museum. They used to have a muscle shell button factory in Metropolis, Illinois.
Bridger was among the first European men to explore the natural wonders of the Yellowstone region. In the fall of 1824, Bridger explored the Great Salt Lake region, reaching it by bull boat. He was one of the first European people to explore Yellowstone's springs and geysers.
I enjoy the vignettes of your restaurant meals! More please!
Where the captain commands and steers the ship is called the BRIDGE
This has been a great tour !
I was on Mississippi Queen back in the 80s ! But I'm really enjoying
This tour !
The lady and the turtle shell! 😅😅😅 Never too late for a beaver lodge! Train at the end caused a weird audio glitch with the camera.
Haha, she seemed so sweet!
Good morning Jacob thank you
Boats typically are inland vessels and ships are multiple sail or engine ocean fairing vessels
Loving this series! The incline car is so cool. The windmill museum lady was very nice, I liked how she used a portable fan to demonstrate the mill model. Such a gorgeous day!
I am loving this trip down the Mississippi River. Looking toward to the next few days videos.
Yay I’m early! Good morning Jacob and everyone, another fun day on the Mississippi River road trip 🙂
Crushed penny tip: Save any pre-1982 pennies you come across and use those. In late 1982 pennies went from 95% copper to 97.5% zinc. Zinc can get a white powdery coating over time, especially in humid environments. Safe travels!
Many Penny crushers are preloaded now I think because most people don’t have pennies with them
Checking up on your MISS RIVER videos and they are absoulutely beautiful. You never realize how beautiful it is along the Mississippi while driving it. And your new cameras captures video so well. 😊
I heard they need one more syllable in the Smokey Bear song so added the word "the". Thank you for spreading the word that his actual name is Smokey Bear. Only you can prevent forest fires and spread the information of his correct name. 😃
I remember going to the National Mississippi River Museum as a kid. And I've been going there a lot with my family.
Love the pickers show. Watch the reruns all the time.
Jacob is in a good mood for this one! What great museum and one of your best videos!
Here in southernmost Illinois, we call it "hoggin'" catfish. My grandfather and his brothers used to do that. They would run their fist into the mouth of the catfish and then hurl the fist onto the shore. Grandfather said it was sure good eating with hush puppies on the side.
The difference between a boat and a ship is boats are traditionally meant for rivers and lakes, ships are meant for ocean going transit.
Today, the difference between a boat and a ship is largely the direction it leans when it turns. A ship will turn the opposite direction of the turn, while a boat will lean into the turn. At least that's how it was explained to me.
Thank you so much for stopping by the American Pickers store! My Mom loved watching Mike and Frank so much and made me love them too.
You're the best, Jacob! ❤
My Google-fu tells me a ship is generally ocean-going, while a boat travels lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. Also, the place where you control a steamboat is a "pilot house."
This has been an amazing trip so far looking forward to the rest
Been loving all the trains we've seen on this trip. Guessing many more to come too as there must be lines that run along the entire river.
You’re doing great Jacob. Loving take this trip with you
Yeah, here I am chillin'-just sitting on a fish-too funny-great video, thanks!
I walked right past you at the Mississippi Aquarium n Museum! I was scared to say hi. I've watched you for the last year n a half. I also couldn't tell if you were recording and I didn't wanna accidently mess up a recording. But it was awesome to see you!
So excited that you were able to make a stop in Dubuque! Generations of my family have and still live there so it is wonderful to see you visit. Love this series, thanks for all your great work!
Very cool adventure! I love windmills And lighthouses. Two of my favorites things.
Loving this road trip! Seeing lots of new places! Great as always Mr. Carpetbagger
Great adventures today Jacob! Now, you're super close to a Buffalo Bill Museum. That'll be a great starting point for tomorrow! Well done!
I am really enjoying this series. I grew up near Alton and saw and rode the Delta Queen many times in its heyday (including meeting Pres. Carter). Last word is it is docked in Louisiana in poor shape but may be revived. Riding the Kampsville Ferry was also a fond memory. Looking forward to the next episode!
I really enjoyed this video. The views and the American pickers store. Very relaxing
6:19 Catfish noodling is actually one of the most dangerous forms of fishing you can do.
Why is it dangerous? If you don't mind telling me
@@lorettablakeman3335 well because you’re fishing with your bare hands in which they can literally bite your fingers off. Inject poison in you. You could also drown in the process.
Because you can not see what you are putting your hand in a lot of people have lost fingers putting their hand into a snapping turtle's mouth instead of a catfish@@lorettablakeman3335
There’s a rail-car like that in Los Angeles, also. It’s called a funicular railroad. The one in LA is named “Angels’ Flight.”
A boat can fit on a ship
So cool seeing you go into the store from American pickers. I use to watch it all the time. They came to my town here in Vernon my brother got to meet them and he got pictures with them. I love when you go on these road trips I love getting to watch your videos every day.
I was thinking to myself when you started this trip, “I wonder if he’ll swing by Antique Archeology and you did! I actually said yea!” LOL Too bad Danielle and/or Mike weren’t around.
Put the boat into ludicrous speed Jacob
Excellent video today 🌟 A River boat museum, A cool railway ride, and a windmill museum all in the same day 🙌🤩💖 In answer to the question posed in the restaurant...it would definitely be Jaws every time for me 🦈😹 As always, Thank You for finding such awesome sights along Your way Jacob 🙏💝😻♾️
A very interesting trip 😊 safe travels!
Generally ships are on the ocean and boats are smaller in land vessels and the captain is on the bridge just like in Star Trek
Thanks for sharing your wonderful journey!!
Catfish Gonads is my favorite jazz singer.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸👍 stay awesome.
There is a nice river boat tour the wife and I took some years ago in Hannibal, MO. A perfect place to do so.
Was just in dubuque in August
The museum and aquarium was absolutely amazing
I’ve always called the steering portion of a boat/ship the “wheel house.” Not really sure if that’s the correct terminology, but have always been told that. My Grandpa who passed away quite some years ago spent over 30 years on the Ohio River working on tugboats.
I agree, I think it’s called the wheel house.
Good Morning " YA ALL " Jacob the Carpetbagger ..!!
I'm usually impressed by your videos in general, but this one really takes the taco. Just absolutely jammed packed with sheer awesomeness that I don't even know where to start. Wow. Just wow.💯🤙🤙
A ship can hold a boat but, not vice versa. The "Captain's area" is called the "Wheelhouse". Loving your trip down the mighty Mississip!
That’s out of my wheelhouse
Dubuque is a fun town
OK. The shell button exhibit was pretty cool
You & Jen should do a cruise on the Mississippi ❤
I would have loved it if the American Pickers came out to say hi, was a big fan of that show.
Really enjoyable and interesting video.
Jacob, a ship is a vessel you can live on. A boat you could not.
You and Jenn should go on the Mississippi River trip that Viking river cruises puts out. Contact them. They might even sponsor you. Take a Viking long boat cruise through the heart of the Delta by Viking River Cruises. (No I don’t work for them. But I have been on them and they are wonderful all inclusive cruising for adults only. (Over 18)
Creole Queen is in New Orleans. You can ride on it and it even has a buffet style meal you can get. Ive done it a few times and is a nice slow paced relaxing experience.
Vessels intended for navigation of coastal and inland waters are generally called boats, while ocean-going vessels are generally called ships. However, the former are also generally smaller than the latter. Thats a definition I found on Google. Also where the Captain steers the ship is called the Bridge. Left side of a ship is called Port, The right side is called Starboard, The front of a ship is called Forward or Bow, and the back of the Ship is called Aft or Stern. The floor of a ship is called the Deck and the walls of the ship is called the Bulkhead. Plus the bathroom is called the Head and the kitchen/dining area is called the Mess hall and basically where the sailors sleep is called the Berthing area.
Thank you for this information!
Such a great idea to do this tour, I’m loving it. Thank you!
I see its also the year of riding animals too
There is a paddle boat here in Galveston, Tx that takes off from Moody Gardens. Also if note is that water from the Mississippi River runs out into Galveston Bay, a former home of Pirate Jean LaFitte.
The captain steers his vessel from the pilot house.
The Carpetbagger jig!
I might have to try that with wooden shoes.
O man river, that ol’ man river. Must know something , but don’t know nothing, keep on rolling, just keep on rolling along.
Ive been there on a band trip and i absolutely loved ut and am dying to take my kids there
Yesss he did it !
I've been there probably 4 years ago now but we didn't know there were several buildings to walk through so we only went through the one where's the big tank with the alligator gar and the other tank with the creepy black fish that can open their mouth really big
Very informative and fun; Marc T comment, epic; you really like riding animals and rides, so funny; Thanx for the smiles; happy n safe travels
If you are near Hannibal Missouri around dinner time you can take a dinner cruise on a riverboat.
I always thought about a ship ( like a navy vessel) being bigger than a boat. A boat is much smaller, like something you go fishing in.
We had the Delta Queen here in Chattanooga TN it was a resturant then it started falling apart and someone bought it and it was supposed to be restored and made where it could be taken up the river on trips!
24:10 I think he was about to carjack your camera 😅
22:39 the Bridge. Historically it had more areas that ended up being taken over by computers in modern ships such as map rooms and radio rooms
Just great as always..🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Omg you were in fulton yesterday. Thats were I live.
