- This video is about upgrading the speakers in my BMW 330ci e46. My car came fitted with the Harmon Kardon sound system which I am sure sounded great in 2002. However it is now 2019 and the woofers are cracked on all the mid range speakers. So I first decided to upgrade to a set of eBay drop and swap speakers that were supposable design for the e46...they weren't and on tops of the installation being horrendous the sound quality was awful. So I tore them out and upgraded to the Bavsound stage 1 kit and I couldn't be happier. Only down side is the bass since they do not make a subwoofer upgrade. Hopefully I will have a solution to this soon.

I upgraded using this kit for my non-HK system about a year ago. The selling point for me was the plug and play factor. There is no doubt these speakers are made of quality materials. When I acquired my car, a lot of the speakers were blown so it made sense. The sound quality is ok. The biggest limitation in either system is the amplifier. It would be great if there was a plug and play solution out there for the amp!
Yes I know if the car had a better amp they could be so much better

Factory option HK is superb .... the only reason it gets a bad rap is because the subs mids and tweeters quit working after 20 years. Just find a good set and re install them and your will be mind blown how good it was. I just repaired and replaced our system and it sounds as good as my JBL components and 8 inch sub.

@@rossellcastillo9838 You have bad taste lmao, i like it got a 316ti and its beautiful! Matches my chassis color better than the boring standard black where dust can be seen an annoy you.
You can see everything to the rear deck lid speakers by looking at the mirror image in the rear window, no worries.
Been looking at them for ages, but no real install other than bav guys. Also no shipping to South Africa

Evan Goyuk I just had the JL PowerWedge installed in my X6. It’s a vertically compact 12” sub. See my review here on YT. I highly recommend. Also, I did the FULL BAVSound upgrade.

Ive been told that i Can put 165mm speakers in the rear sides aswell as the front. I bought alpine r Series 165mm front and rear, with tweeters front. Can anyone comfirm that it Will fit behind?

Wonder can anyone answer this question. Any idea wht there is no wires running to my speakers on mid are connected. No wires for tweeters or other small speakers. BMW cant ever tell me why

dayton audio is not crappy... just not designed to be used with the HK system my dude.
Great video! I have a vert and have been back & forth between the BAV system or a generic ebay brand, thank you for helping me make the better choice. Did you bypass the HK amp or leave it in your system? If you did bypass, any tips on how to do it the correct way?
Definitely DO NOT BUY THE EBAY KIT. Go for Bav sound and no I do not bypass it

Dayton audio is def. not crap. Generally highly regarded in the DIY Hifi scene.

I need help. I’m thinking of ordering these for my E46 but I’ve already spliced the harness off of my rear deck speakers. Will that affect the install at all?
No you can use spade connections to plug into the bavsound harness

Great review! I am considering this upgrade. However, I have the OEM headunit. What headunit do you have on yours? Does it make a difference in sound quality compared to a OEM headunit?

Hey bro I have an e39 528i 1999. So my speakers are shot the sound is very muffled now since the cars 21 years old. I have the original radio and speakers. The radio I’m looking to keep thought unless I need to change it. But the speakers I’m looking at changing out and using Bavsound. Do you think I would need a new radio or just the speakers will do fine ? Thanks bro !

was your drivers side HK tweeter still good , i live in MA,Boston basically and would buy it
really do not want to press my door panel though i am afraid of the clips breaking
They only sell a full car kit. My tweeters were completely cracked and sounded very bad. My clips didn’t break and were very cheap

yup that is what i thought , i didn't want to spent that but for what they are asking for a replacement tweeter these days might as well just get the kit if i decide to do it
one tweeter is almost half the cost of the whole kit

Evan Goyuk in your opinion how does it sound compared to the hk? My hk system still sounds pretty good but I might upgrade later on if it’s worth it.
I think it is worth the price for an upgrade!
do you use a amp in your car?
Mids sound cut and highs sound a lot louder compared to the HK speakers, but you can't really hear the difference very well on youtube haha.

After breaking them in for 1-2 weeks on low-medium, I can fully turn my speakers up and they play super loud, crisp and clear.
installation took me like 2-3 hours making sure I didn’t damage my clips.
If you have the old hk system these speakers are a MUST!

I have an ground zero speakersystem combined with two pioneer underseat subs in my 4 door sedan. The sound of the bavsound is nothing compared to these and even these arent top notch. A friend of mine has the JBL Stage without subs and its even better. But keep up your work your videos are great.

What speakers did you buy off eBay? I found someone who claims has better speakers than bavsound and theirs are plug and play as well
The eBay speakers are not better nor are they plug and play. DO NOT BUY EBAY SPEAKERS. I promise you they will not sound good and the Bavsound ones are better

@@ryanomara5866 yup those are them complete garbage. Don't worry about the bavsound ones not coming with subs your factory subs sound way better.
@@EvanGoyuk pretty sure my subs are blown 😭 that's why I was looking for replacements. It's either blown subs or loose plastic covers.
My buddy just got the bavsound for his e39 so I'm waiting for him to get them all in to see how it sounds

Bmw uses odd sizes so it’s not standard

Nice video, I ordered the speakers as well. I had the Hi-Fi system and most speakers were already blown. Thing is that I can’t turn the music up too high because there will be distortion. Could it be the amp? Maybe the head unit? I have a Xtrons sitting in the dash atm but was thinking of getting something else. I’ve played around with the audio setting on the xtrons but no change. Could it be the amp?

Man, I haven’t been able to get to getting the speakers right yet. But that’s going to come up next. A buddy has a dynavin N8 head unit so we will try that and also try and get a amp switched in. I’m thinking that the factory amp is too weak to push the speakers and the xtrons radio only has 4x45 watts compared to the 4x100 on the dynavin.

the ones that you've changed in the front door (the big one at bottom of the door ) weren't HARMAN CARDON ! they weren't even OEM ones!

Evan Goyuk I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. Idk if my speakers are blown but it doesn’t sound good at all. I’m using a Bluetooth connector and it sounds horrible. When I switch to cd it’s still not that good. I have to find someone with an e46 and compare

The kit is around 500. Unfortunately it does not come with a subwoofer upgrade

How long have you had the radio for? I'm curious because the Android units I've seen tend to fail after a few months...
1. Why would anybody need to reinstall this foam insulation ring around the new door woofer, which completely restricts the speaker from performing according to its potential? 2. Why would anybody bother to invest any time or money to the side panel speakers, which contribute nothing at all to the system? 3. Why do you keep repeating the expression "crappy ebay speakers"? As far as I can tell and from what I saw the door woofer you replaced war just fine, the rear panel woofer was a Dayton Audio, which is far more than decent and probably equal to the Bavs from the technical perspective? (btw, who is Bavaudio? what's their background? what's the heritage? what's the hype about?)
