You spend enough time in the Corps and you'll eventually sound Southern. I'd say too many southerners find their way into the Marines, but I love our southern brothers and most of em ended up in 0311 anyway.
That's me too I don't want to look back and say man I should have join the marines. I want to make myself and my family proud. Never give up your dreams!
Haystack Bunker ...Marines hands down, Semper Fi! The original special forces! The thing is, if you go into naval special warfare and you get injured and have to recycle or if you fail out and have to recycle, then what? You get sent to fleet as an undesignated rate and now you a sailor and you will be given some shitty MOS until you can re-enroll in NSW or until your service commitment ends. If you are in the Marines you can go for infantry, force recon, MARSOC, QRF, and a bunch of other MOS’s that are kind of parallel to special forces. And the cool thing about MARSOC (Marine Raiders) is you can apply from any MOS in the Marines, not just infantry or recon. And let’s be honest, Marine Raiders are just way cooler than Navy seals! :-). Anyway. Marines have and still do look at every marine as a special forces operator. That is why for the longest time they refused to create a “special forces” group within the Corp. Force Recon kind of became that but I don’t think anyone in the Marines officially designated force recon as special operations. With the addition of MARSOC Raiders in JSOC, Raiders within the Marines are kind of looked at like the Delta force of the Marines. Also, a little history lesson, the Marine Raiders were technically the first official commando “special forces”. They were formed in WWII by Roosevelt and the tactics and techniques they developed were adopted by the army and navy when they created their special forces. At the end of wwii the Marines disbanded the Raiders... and a few years ago they decided to resurrect the title and assign it to the MARSOC marine units.
hey marines, thats actually why im joining is to become a 0317 is there any information on how someone achieves that. i know it wont be easy but any help i can get will be appreciated. im just waiting to take my test and swear in. hope you can help
Same here. From what I have found out you go in with a infantry MOS then when you achieve the rank of Lance Corporal you can request sniper school. -Poolee Newkirk
Colby Sowter join the infantry get to your unit. then you have a chance to do an indoc for scout sniper. pass that u go into sniper platoon and you wait until you get the go ahead to do sniper school.
I honestly feel bad for Scout/ Snipers, they have no tangible benefits from the Marine Corps for going through some of the hardest training the Corps has to offer. We have Lances and Corporals, and correct me if I am wrong but also some PFC's passing Indoc and Scout Sniper School, and until they become a 0369 (if they choose to do so), pretty much all the Corps can offer them is Scout/ Sniper Team Leader course. Where is the upward progression? At the very least, I think the Marine Corps should authorize the wear of an external device just like MARSOC, Recon, and EOD.
@@walkersamericanoutdoors7840 so I commented this on a marine video and I think that is where the confusion comes in. In Canada you are actually allowed to enroll in the reserves at 16 with parental consent and assuming you are also enrolled in high school.
Does anyone know if it is possible enough to become a Scout sniper or infantry man and still attend college courses online? If I do go to I would have completed 1 year of college but planning to go after I complete my associates degree and then taking courses online while serving and trying to become am Officer using MCEP.
It is possible to enlist & then become a Scout Sniper if you score well enough on your ASVAB & meet all the criteria. Scout Snipers must earn the rank of Lance Corporal, be selected by their battalion to join the scout-sniper platoon, and complete an approved scout-sniper course in order to receive this designation. 1.) I'm not sure if online college courses count as an accredited university, but I could be wrong. 2.) I don't think you can get a commission even through MCEP with an associates degree; I believe you need a bachelor's degree in something to do that. 3.) I'm pretty sure most Scout Snipers are active duty billets where they don't want you, an enlisted member, trying to be a part time college student to get a commission. 4.) I've never heard or seen a Scout Sniper Officer who's in the field pulling the trigger on the sniper rifle. I'm inferring from what you said that you're wanting to be a sniper for a reason. Scout Sniper's work in pairs normally, & have around 8-10 pairs in a platoon. Obviously commanded by a company grade officer, but you're a specialty billet, so you're gonna' be part of a weapons company most likely, & that weapons company is going to be apart of your whole battalion. I'd presume that the Platoon Leader position (Officer) would just come from a Recon Platoon leader MOS, or standard Infantry / Intelligence Officer. (Take this with a grain of salt) Those officers really don't have any business pullin' the trigger on a sniper rifle. They're issuing targets & relaying things / giving commands. 9/10 You & your spotter will have orders from that officer to be tasked as needed to another platoon in which that infantry officer just became your commander. You'll be taking orders from that officer most likely. I could be ENTIRELY wrong, I'm just a seventeen year old kid aspiring to be an infantry officer myself from the academy, but I'm just trying to give you my opinion, & thoughts. To be sure - although nothing is guaranteed - I'd go talk to your area's Officer Selection Officer & tell him / her what you'd like to do & how to do it.
Kalin I don't think that's true because ny grandfather was a scout sniper for the corps and a damn good one he was corporal when he ended his term he climbed ranks as a sniper
I'm only 13 and ever since I was 10 I've always wanted to join the marines I'm split on infantry and sniper the only thing that has me too afraid to go for sniper is I heard that the sniper has to watch over there platoon and that kinda stress and thought of if I don't do my job right and someone gets hurt or worse its my fault idk if that's true or they only do recon. Infantry just seems like a thing I would want to do. I know people say "you should do something that would help you outside of the marines" but like in the video I feel like I would regret not going either one of them
