I have the Emu Black in my K24 Awd Civic, I love it! The weak link of those engines is the rods, I windowed the block on 2 engines and the rods looked like twins. On the 3rd engine we threw in some $350 rods, reused hg, head bolts, and oil pump, and spun it up to 8k rpm and 28lbs of boost, plenty of AWD launches and it loved it. Eventually dropped a valve and shattered a piston.
Haha we don’t plan on getting wild with this tissue paper car, it’s gotta make noises and go forward, 400whp would be a stretch goal
The PDU looks awesome. I love that you get things like this and deep dive on them and show the rest of us the pros and cons and kinda what it does. These things always seem like something "I won't ever need" and then bam you get one and show everyone what its all about and it turns into a must have item 🤣. Thanks for blazing a trail man! I dig the little truck and im once again jealous that I cant have anything fun like that where I live. Maybe diesel stuff will drop in price soon and I can find some cool 80s something that I can swap without dealing with smog.
Yeah it’s all there in theory it’s just making it work I am exited to see if I can
Its funny to hear you talk about meeting people like you are the man to meet 😂. I like when people are humble, your doing great
That's a great project. I'm thinking this exactly what you've needed to get into, this is the next level in tuning/hot rodding. With the channel you have youll be able to show off the highs and lows with the potential of these new can systems being used. Hopefully it'll push a new crowd that direction and it will help a lot of people understand how and why things work the way they do since you get pretty deep into researching and explaining what you're doing. I think it's also cool to see you doing another project that's not what everyone is expecting you to do, this vw is going to be pretty sick when all is said and done. I'm wondering how much it'll weigh with this this swap when completed. You may have just opened up the door for everyone to start eating up these little trucks now. You killed the Fairmont market, let's see what happens next. Good luck sir🤙
I'd like to see when you're done you hooking up a labscope to the can high and low to see what the data being transferred looks like compared to an oem can system. It really is amazing at how much data can be run at the rate they run it...
Yep, still the Wild West of digital things… it has been interesting watching the things come out of the hive mind
Micro truck life! I’m in love 😍
Aren't you haydens bud? Didn't/do you have a rear wheel drive Ls swapped civic hatch back?
@@Brother2Jis_27s4 yeah we havnt finished it. It’s that project that is perpetually on the back burner.
It’s still a little over my head but you have definitely got my attention. I would love to see how you can pair the pmu with a Holley. Always trying to find a way to have more functions with less wires.
My friend has one and we have humored a lot of swaps. The back is already spring and I have a ford 8" out of an old falcon that we thought about using if any power plant we threw at it would turn the back wheels
Exciting stuff Matt!! Merging fancy with a high degree of slop. Perfection.
Haven't seen one of those trucks since I was a kid! Talk about a unicorn.
Nitrous over CAN is definitely sloppy. Probably fine but a little sketch on timing if messages get dropped. Excited to see how this goes
Kind of what I was thinking lol
why would messages get dropped? I know its not a direct input/output but what would cause that?
@@motoweenies4431 a few things can cause messages to be dropped, the most common is interference from bad bus architecture, but it isn’t just dropping messages priority is another issue. Just because you want to send your message does not mean that you can right at that millisecond. The ECU should be SA01 which is highest priority, but the send priority even within the module matters too. You should be able to mitigate that some with the way you calibrate the ECU and PDM. I know ecumaster allows some super low level calibration too. Still with a super high retransmission rate like 20ms at 7k rpm that still gives almost 8 rotations if the first message was dropped. I assume you’d have a dry kit so that would mean your injectors have been dumping fuel for that long before the gas comes on. Not a great situation. Though worse is shutting down the kit. Fuel off gas not is reallllll bad
That’s some cool shit!! This is why I follow this channel. Thanks Matt and co for all y’all do.
This looks like an awesome build. Jamie doing her channel still I know I asked before but can't remeber
She stopped a while, not sure if she’ll do it again
ITS HERE LETS GOOOOO!!! K SERIES
Hoping to see an update on this caddy soon!
This is amazing. I have always loved mk1 vw rabbits and caddy.
Sweet build. I always thought it would be cool to use an awd audi tt drive train in something like this.
Arne is a legend for getting the hook-up on this
@sloppymechanics It's surprising to me that you're friends with Devin Vanderhoof but you don't watch his videos. I understand you're a busy guy but you gotta get on the Tube a little more, you're behind the times. Devin's been using a PMU via CAN from Holley for a few years now.....
Check out the Mustang build he did that is entirely run from a RacePak PMU and Holley Dominator. Engine, HVAC, windows, lighting everywhere, etc.
Glad to see your willingness to try other engine management systems like Calvin is as well with the MAXX ecu.
I see what you’re getting at with the can signal triggering. Less wiring, making it easier to install, plus less points of possible failure. Kind of what the same idea of what started networking module from the OE originally, but has been taken to an extreme and over complicated. I could see lots of uses for this, and it has me curious about it as well now. I may have to do some research on this as well.
LOVE me some Rabbit truck content, regardless of powertrain.
Super excited to see how that PMU jives with a TermX
Dude hell yes excited to see wat you do with this keep is updated
Soo this is where all the element transfer cases went
That's the shiznitt. Wish I understood more about tuning.
I spent some time digging into holley can messaging earlier this year, some ecu's only output holley can messages and others output racepak and holley can messages. The racepak format has a lot of data but nothing compared to true holley can messaging. It could be that they have worked with Holley to use holley can messaging as holley doesn't release anything about their can messaging
Ecumaster is huge in the EU, looking forward to seeing how you do with this as it's most likely what I'll end up going with
Looking forward to that deep dive, should be enlightening
"Small but fierce, understand?" say no more xD
That thing is amazing
The Perfect work truck
I really want this when it’s done
Can’t wait to see more of this!!! And more on ecu master!
HOLY shit! thats a LOT of $ on that bench.
I’ve been looking for a Power distribution unit like that to integrate with my Holley dominator ecu in my car
Project Binky on a budget!
I love how the transfer case just sneaks right in under the rack. The rear suspension deal would drive me nuts though, I hate that poked and stuffed back in look that body swaps and the like end up with.
Yeah I wanted to do a solid rear as it would have dropped in but nothing in this weird ass gear ratio, then it becomes a whole cut down the entire stock setup to fit, might as well make a custom rear suspension etc, very quickly it turns into a wild snowball for a minimalistic build for a car that probably won’t survive the power train
@@SloppyMechanics Yeah I get that. I'll say, I have some cut and welded CVs on an old subaru I built, it's done pretty good. Of course the car only makes maybe 100-120 wheel but it has handled clutch drops, ice racing, etc.
Shoot I can't wait to see that run. I love those trucks. I've had 3. Awd would be awesome
Wait what!?😮 A VOLKSWAGEN guy was able to use modern AWD parts to make his VW k-series AWD build, but damn near every Honda Guy STILL think they need to use late 80’s Civic Wagon parts? THIS is why a respect the Euro guys 👍
YESSSS ECUMASTER! hell yeah ill be tuning into this one *no pun intended*
(my car runs ecumaster black and i love it)
Can you do some instruction/review on how to setup launch control to build boost? I tried some anti-lag adding fuel and pulling timing but it just stalled out when i launched it. My best success was no 'antilag' and just a fuel/ignition cut rev limiter with absolute timing. I don't care about pops and bangs I want this thing to leave hard! :)
Yoooo this is cool. I'm digging this
Love it. Very interested in what you figure out with the PMU
That's lookin like fun! You're a mad man!
Are you telling me, that there's a protocol independent, can bus sniffer, that will run and ecu!?
Dang ol Fancy Mechanics
Need More Caddy stuff
We were all wondering when you were going to get tired of wiring everything. Most of us can’t build a budget car and wire it ourselves, but a lot of us can buy our way to a running car and that means a lot. By that I mean all of us are dumb and a few of us can afford to go fast as long as you hold our hand all the way to the winners circle haha.
That’s really awesome. Hope to see over 500 out of that bye the time its over 🤣
I've always been interested in tiny trucks. I want to see how this goes.
Mind blowing
Sniffin' can man😎
dude that thing is sick
Matt I’ve always have been scared of wiring and you usually make things make sense. But this whole sniffing thing and other stuff I’m still lost on lol
sniffin glue
Check out that terrarium .... BUGZ
Me and my little guy catch bugs every single day
How do I see more videos on just the rabbit pickup? thanks
That’s amazing!
Kenny...?
La Flama Blanca?
I bet the VW guys are mad it’s not a 1.8T lol
Wait so this ecu setup could run hondata or something? Is that true if so how does that work?
I like it man
siiiiick
Hell yeah that's gonna be I've fast vw
Apparently I can't type smh
Are you running a viscous and pining the rear diff?? I'm sure you know what to do.
i am going to do as little as possible as lower hp driving reliably is going to be more fun than smashing all the gear boxes and diffs out of these things, everyone else on the internet is doing a good job of that lol
@@SloppyMechanics most people that are breaking stock boxes are at 400+ on hard launches. But I do completely agree with you. I'm trying for 800+, b series, billet housings, gear x gearset, clutch, axles.... gets expensive real quick if you want reliability. I feel like my money would have been better spent on a 5.3 gmc truck with a turbo 400 and a home made turbo.
🤙🏻🍕 so sick! 🤙🏻🍕
Any updates on this truck?
Yes going to move this swap to something else this car is too rotten
@@SloppyMechanics I hope its still a mk1 VW! this is inspiring me to chop mine up hahaha
Will the ecu masters run drive by wire? Or only drive by cable
this unit can not, but their other model has more IO dedicated to DBW
@@SloppyMechanics that ecu masters black you have does DBW 100percent as I'm using it.
@@garyhowe88 really, without a module?
@@SloppyMechanics yup! Only the classic needs the module.
No flares please
just tires boss
Is it a5spd?
yes, it says so in the title of the video
@@SloppyMechanics idk how i missed that. Cool though, hope you find shift cables that fit and reach, when i manual swapped my car it was the hardest thing to find, i tried dozens of combinations for the cables and shifter b4 finding one that worked
How to spend 20k on a k swap. Lol
20k where are you getting that
