This video lent a font of knowledge. I got so excited about Rose-tone for my hydrangeas that I paused the video to go out and feed them right then. Now I need a bigger bag!! Thanks as always for beautifying the world one yard at a time.
I would love to see an “All-Inclusive guide to fertilizing” type video where your just go over each type of plant (shrubs, herbaceous, trees, succulents, houseplant) and talk about what and when to fertilize them with
Thank you so much Laura for showing that you can still do what you love after having a baby. It is really inspiring to see you balancing work and life so beautifully and with such a positive energizing attitude ♥️ I look forward to your videos and wait for sweet Benjamin’s cameos. Much love your way
This was so helpful and informative! Love the rate at which these videos are coming out. I know you guys must be tired of editing but it is so so so appreciated!
@Jennifer Blane yes, she is very successful at what she does. I subscribe because I find it useful. My comment about the rate in which videos come during this time is because they have increased. I love that but I also know it is hard work. It is her job, she gets paid, and she should. Good for her. Keep it positive.
Thank you so much for this fertilizer video. I have often wondered how, when and what you do to fertilize your shrubs and perennials. Laura, you and Aaron are fantastic! I learn so much from your videos!!
Gees the 65 Arbor Vitae's are coming on beautifully, I can remember the day you planted them Laura, well done 👍🏼 ... also I have to say this video is very informative ... I'm a huge desert rose grower (629 all together) and I can say you definitely need the right fertiliser for each kind of plant (if that makes sense) ... I love gardening, just being in my garden gives me peace and satisfaction ... thank you Laura, great video 👍🏼💖😘💜🕊
Good morning Laura, I love all your videos! Just wanted to add I’ve been gardening over 20 years on 2 acres and have rarely used commercial fertilizer, what we use instead is leaves (lots of them). Every spring we top off all our beds with maple leaves and wow has that improved our soil, nice rich black soil. Our original soil is a heavy sand with a little gravel, and a little black soil. Using leaves is a cheap way to improve your soil and it works! We use so many leaves that we have the city bring us several truck loads. I do however fertilizer my annuals because they need the flower power.
Hi Peggy I know you wrote in a year ago but I was curious to know if you shred your leaves first? I just threw leaves right on the beds and now they're kind of moldy and slimy
@@sosad9381 Hi Most of our leaves come from what the city has picked up and it's somewhat chopped, we put a good layer down and it does look a little packed and mushy....... as it warms up we ruffle it up just a bit on top with a small rake. The leaves from our yard are run over with our lawn mower and blown on the beds. I know it looks weird but it does dry and starts to break down and makes great soil. The packed leaves also help with the weeds and retaining moisture, but you may want to make sure your plants aren't covered completely. Hope this helps, Happy Gardening Peggy
Yep I agree, if you leave the leaves, and throw on some compost you should never have to fertilize. I've been gardening for 30 years and have never needed to buy fertilizer for shrubs, trees or perennials...only need plant food for annuals. If however you have surrounded your plants with landscape plastic and rock mulch, then you might have to because there is nothing in the soil to feed the plant.
Absolutely loved this video. Thanks for sharing. I was NOT fertilizing enough. I know you said Hydrangea pruning is on the way - I can’t wait!!!! I look forward to it every time I see a video from you pop up😊. Thanks for what you do!!!
Every time you have a new video, I am looking forward to see Benjamin as well. He adds excitement to your vlog. We would love to see him, he is adorable and charismatic.♡♡♡
You have perfect timing on this video! It's exactly what I needed help on. I now know I'm not fertilizing enough. I read the bag instructions but was afraid to burn the plants. I use Espoma almost exclusively since I started watching your videos a few years back. I have a shelf full of all the different Espoma fertilizer. I'll be watching this one several times for all the great tips. Thank you for all the wonderful videos!
This is so concise, very easy to understand and super helpful. Thanks! Another handy titbit I learned from an article was an easy way to remember the 3 sets of numbers on those fertilizer bags. The Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium (N-P-K) can be interpreted as "Up, Down, and All Around" for leaves, roots and general well-being. Even I get that!
So exciting to watch your garden waking up. Ive already got my petunias in the ground and about 10 days from getting tomatoes and peppers in the ground
Thank you for this! You guys are the best. I needed this. I was not using enough fertilizer but have used Plant-Tone and Rose for years. Keep doing the videos! They are truly amazing!!! You know so much. Thank you for sharing.
Yes yes please more info on different fertilizers! My husband thinks I can just use 10-10-10 on everything in my garden. I want beauty not just sustainable
I use a variety of fertilizer products and incorporate fish fertilizer (liquid & powder) into most growing space. kelp and crab shells have added benefits. I usually buy the tomato/vegetable blend from Espoma or Jobes because of the Bio-Tone bascillium additives and it makes my garden thrive over the general use fertilizer. After reading a book on the Soil-Food-Web it changed my perspective on fertilizer and I avoid using pounds of chemical fertilizer, sometimes its necessary to throw down some K when needed.
Oh this was great. Information I really needed. I loved the sneak peeks at the different flower beds around where you were working. Everything looks so nice and clean. I see you have all your flower boxes cleaned and emptied, can't wait for that video again. Thanks so much for doing this for us so we know how to treat our beds. See you in the next one!
@Jennifer Blane please stop! Now your continued posts are making me angry and defensive of them. Some college professors make more than that and do a piss poor job pushing their liberal agenda. Just stop commenting. It matters not what they make! It matters what they share for our knowledge and enjoyment!
@Jennifer Blane I don’t care. They totally deserve to make that kind of money for all their hard work. I love every video they’ve made. Keep up the good work, Laura and Aaron!!!! ♥️
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for this!!! Fertilizing (what to use, when to use it) is always the most confusing thing for me! You REALLY helped me, and my plants, big time!
Thanks for a very useful topic/video! It seems that lots of gardeners forget/skip these important maintenance treatments of fertilizers. Later on, they wonder WHY their plants aren't performing the way they thought they would! Lol 🌾💜
I hardly used fertilizer in my garden until I started watching your videos a few years ago. As a result, the sword plants in my front have outgrown their very large pots. It's like they supersized themselves on fertilizer. Very good video with super information.
I wish I had seen this video when it was first published! Last fall I had 20-yr-old overgrown bushes removed from the front of my house and a new garden with lots of flowering plants put in. It was beautiful, but I did not get good instruction on fertilizing and applied a different product right at the base, burning many of the plants! I'm hoping that more plants do not die than already did. I'm in the middle of trying to replace the dead plants and want to be sure I do it RIGHT next time! I will start looking for the Espoma product. Thank you!
Jennifer Blane MORE power to her! Capitalism at work. She has tapped into a demand, and met it. I have a UA-cam channel as well, and I can assure you, planning and recording and editing is work! Not to mention the actual gardening she shares with us! It thrills me that she and Aaron are able to live their passion, take care of Benjamin from home, and foster their business.
Yes coffee with Laura and sunshine!! Thanks for the information on fertilizing, it is very helpful as we are needing to get on a routine of this with my work garden and plants.!
One of my biggest take aways from your videos is how you fertilize! I used to mulch with compost and do nothing more. It wasn’t enough for many things in my poor soil. Thank you!
Oh my god girl I love what you do keep doing what you do so far I have learned everything from you and thank you for posting all that knowledge have a blessed days and months and years
What I’d love to have is a sheet that says what each of the “tones” are used for. I would never have guessed RoseTone was for perennial flowers, for example. Very helpful info Laura!
Thank you so much, very timely. I’m sitting having coffee trying to decide about fertilizing and what with. Walk, there you are. Now I can’t wait to get started! I was very glad to see how to use Rosetone! Will you be putting down fresh mulch? Love you’re gardens and you’re dedication. Benjamin is really growing, it won’t be long until we see him running behind you! 😸
I feel like I have been fertilizer incorrectly and too often. Definitely love any “beginner” videos you do. When can we expect Aaron to do an irrigation video? ;)
@Jennifer Blane This is their full time career, they both have worked hard to have accomplished this. It is not easy work, I am glad they are finally benefiting from this, and can now have funds for many more projects that I will enjoy watching 😊

Great video, my two big holly tree leaves began turning brown and falling off just recently and i ran across your video, i certainly don’t want to lose these as they’re the centerpiece for front of my house, i’ll grab a big bag of Holly Tone today, we have rain the next few days so it’ll be watered in good. Great Video just love you guys & watching Benjamin grow. He so cute. We would love to see a video on how you get all your water lines out to your gardens & flower beds. We have just started plotting out our Flower beds and vegetable gardens. So we are working on water lines from our well.
Thank you so much. Starting a rose garden and really didn’t want to use the chemical Miracle Gro for Roses. Plus I wanted a good fertilizer. RoseTone it is! Thanks for sharing! God bless!
Love this video!!!!! Informative videos like this are so helpful! I can’t wait to see more videos on the different types of those fertilizers and what you use them on!!!
You don't really, just get an all purpose fertilizer and one for flowers and you'll be fine. You don't need a specific fertilizer for each species of plant. Sometimes these companies get carried away with their products and make fools out of consumers.
Helpful video! Would love a video highlighting fertilizer differences and, possibly, close substitutes when you can't find a specific fertilizer. We recently bought Garden tone from Espoma. I couldn't find Bio-tone at my local store (Home Depot). Building our first veggie beds as well as berry garden beds. Lots of landscaping this spring, so again, this was a very helpful video.
You said you use Bio-Tone Starter when you first plant. Does that mean if I plant a new rose I use the starter in the hole AND put rose tone around the bush or just use the starter?
Your videos are the best. I don't even have a garden, just a couple of succulents on my windowsill, and still enjoy your uploads so much, it brings me peace :)
Quick question: do you fertilize the same way when your plants are in a slope? I'm always afraid the fertilizer is gonna wash away before reaching the roots if I just leave it at the surface. Thank you for the video!
Thank you, Thank you, so informative. I missed the part about the lavender around your vegetable garden, I think. I've been trying to start a lavender patch since last summer. Do you fertilize them as well, with ????
One year I fertilized DA roses with rose tone, within two days they started forming flower buds. The bad thing is the roses where regular roses as if they pushed out so fast they didn’t have time to develop their genes. Weird.
Very informative video thank you! 💚I have to admit that I literally heard nothing at the end of your video the first time I watched it because I was so fixated on the fact that your bombshelter mound is gone!!!🙌🏼 Your head kept blocking my view & I was trying to figure out if you guys also removed the shed??🧐 😂 Can’t wait to see what you do with that area next.🥰 Now I’m off to fertilize everything in my yard.
This video lent a font of knowledge. I got so excited about Rose-tone for my hydrangeas that I paused the video to go out and feed them right then. Now I need a bigger bag!! Thanks as always for beautifying the world one yard at a time.
@Angela Bleacher How did the Rose-tone work out on your hydrangeas last year?
I would love to see an “All-Inclusive guide to fertilizing” type video where your just go over each type of plant (shrubs, herbaceous, trees, succulents, houseplant) and talk about what and when to fertilize them with
How many times will I watch this til I remember it all? Half dozen so far. Such great info. Thanks Laura!
Amy, I have learned, since I don't catch on right away, to take notes
It really helps me.
Now, all I have to remember is where I put my notebook!
Ha!

I've never fertilized my shrubs but I can see why I should be. I love when you do these informative videos.

Thanks Laura, question for you? Does fertilizer have a shelf life? Does it have expiration dates?
Thank you for all you do❤️

HI! Can you please do a video on jasmines, their soil and how to fertilize? Maybe a how to grow a jasmine plant indoors? PLEASE!!!! LOVE your channel!!!
My back hurts just watching you! 🤣
The lady needs a cup with a long handle on it. You would like espoma would get the hint ;)
I'm thinking Espoma asked her to follow their exact directions as written on bag. Makes sense since they are a sponsor. On shrubs and larger perennials there's no reason you can't just toss it out near drip-line without bending over! She's a trooper tho.
Ouch!!!!
The arbs along the fence are looking amazing!! They have put on so much growth. And the weeping willow with its new growth looks gorgeous too. You make all that work look so easy. Or perhaps Aaron does!? 💚💚
Excellent tutorial on how/when/what to fertilize. Eager for your more detailed videos on each fertilizer product. Thanks.
thankyou so much laura.that was very informative.i know you guys have put in so much of effort for us.i really appreciate it.take care...love you..

Thanks Laura, I've been wondering about when I should fertilize. I did a lot of perennial planting last year including a golden arborvitae which thankfully survived the polar vortex.
Laura Is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT In Recommending The Use Of " Plant Tone " For Boxwood And Arbor Vitae. DO NOT USE HOLLY TONE . . . On These Two Plants !
How about cherry laurels... Schiplaurels
I just added rose tone to my hydrangeas..because of your recommendation. Thanks!
Thank you for your video...so simple...you use friendly terms as well. Very helpful. I think I see mulch on your ground, do you place the fertilizer on top of the mulch or do you move it out of the so the soil is exposed before you place the fertilizer? thankyou
Watching this again as I begin to think about the season arriving. Thanks for all this good information.
Thanks a million...🍃 Fertilizing has always confused me. You have answered so many of my questions. Hopefully, you can make a video on how to work the soil. We have horrible hard clay soil and I just cant seem to make it any better...I'm open for any suggestions!😃
Compost is your friend. Use it as much as possible. Good luck 😊
Veronica Sanchez ~ Have You Ever Tried " Gypsum " ? ( It's Worked In The Past For Me. )
@@w.bovgvereav5761 That is something I'm trying this year. Hopefully, it will work. Compost does not seem to do much much for our soil. Thank you all!
Thank you so much Laura. Could you and Aaron also do a video on spring fertilizing your grass similar to this video?
I’m glad u touched on the hydrangeas. I just planted mine and trying to understand when to fertilize.
I’ve got a large planted area with many ornamental trees and I’m 12yr I haven’t fertilized a thing 😂. I’m behind I think?
They are fleeing nicely. Maybe I’ll get longer blooms if I fertilize.
Oh my goodness, that is a lot of work! Great job Laura!💜🌱💜🌞
DANG!!! I just fertilized my hydrangeas with holly tone! I’ll use rose tone next feeding.
Perfect timing! Things are *just barely* starting to come alive here. I think our last really cold night is behind us now so that means I need to get shopping for fertilizers! This is our 2nd summer in this house & I’ve never fertilized anything 😱😩 Can’t wait to feed them and see how they do! 🙌🏼💪🏼
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and instruction. I am motivated to seriously fertilize for the first time...

Thank you so much. Starting a rose garden and really didn’t want to use the chemical Miracle Gro for Roses. Plus I wanted a good fertilizer. RoseTone it is! Thanks for sharing! God bless!
This is very helpful to me, especially show this video on the right time of the year. Thank you very much!
Thank you for this video!! Im a beginner gardener and this was very helpful😁 I love your videos and binge watch them daily😉
Love this video!!!!! Informative videos like this are so helpful! I can’t wait to see more videos on the different types of those fertilizers and what you use them on!!!

You said you use Bio-Tone Starter when you first plant. Does that mean if I plant a new rose I use the starter in the hole AND put rose tone around the bush or just use the starter?
It's funny I was just thinking about when to fertilize and you answered my question thank you so much God bless 💖 love your channel
Your videos are the best. I don't even have a garden, just a couple of succulents on my windowsill, and still enjoy your uploads so much, it brings me peace :)
I just love all of your videos! I have learned so much from them. Was wondering if I should use the Rose Tone for my Peonies? Thanks so much.
Thank you for this video. I’ve already watched a few times to make sure I’m getting all the information correct. It will be a great reference too.
Quick question: do you fertilize the same way when your plants are in a slope? I'm always afraid the fertilizer is gonna wash away before reaching the roots if I just leave it at the surface. Thank you for the video!
Use a liquid one like miracle grow.
I was hoping you'd do a video on fertilizing. Thanks so much.
Mam you are so beautifull & nice informative video.
Thankyou
I learned so much. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. 💕💕💕
@Jennifer Blane I'm sure! And that's great. More power to these young entrepreneurs. I admire their skill and creativity. And I enjoy watching them.
I am so envious! We are getting snow !!!!
Thank you. This was very helpful. Look forward to more videos like it
Thank you! This was very informative.
Thank you, Thank you, so informative. I missed the part about the lavender around your vegetable garden, I think. I've been trying to start a lavender patch since last summer.
Do you fertilize them as well, with ????
Thank you Laura. Made me think about my garden. I’ll get some rose tone. I’ve never used that for my roses. I’m interested to see how it works.
One year I fertilized DA roses with rose tone, within two days they started forming flower buds. The bad thing is the roses where regular roses as if they pushed out so fast they didn’t have time to develop their genes. Weird.
I love the organic fertilizer and so does my dog. She goes for the bone meal.
