  • Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Unfrosted.
Cranking up the sex appeal in a movie about rivaling breakfast cereal companies, you say? Indeed. In this interview with co-writer and director Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan, co-star of Netflix's upcoming comedy, Unfrosted, the Emmy Award-winners share with Collider's Steve Weintraub exactly how and why those unexpected cameos weren't just a surprise in the cereal box, but actually "tonally fit perfectly for this absurd world."
It's 1963, and the Breakfast Race between Kellogg's and Post is about to launch a campaign for the best shelf-stable breakfast item the world has ever seen. To tell his feature directorial debut, Seinfeld enlisted an ensemble of comedians to fill out his "silly world," portraying real-life and not-so-real-life figures like John F. Kennedy (Bill Burr), Edsel Kellogg III (Gaffigan), Marjorie Post (Amy Schumer), Thurl Ravenscroft (Hugh Grant), better known as the voice of Tony the Tiger, and Donna Stankowski (Melissa McCarthy) in a re-imagining of the invention of the Pop-Tart.
Check out the full interview in the video above or the transcript below to find out how they negotiated those Mad Men cameos, effectually upping the sexual appeal of a balanced breakfast, and how it fit the tone of the movie perfectly. Seinfeld and Gaffigan also share their recipes for the perfect cereal and discuss the nature of remakes and the Spinal Tap sequel.

ha ha...I love how in this junket of interviews, Jerry & Jim always spend more time talking to each other than the interviewer.

This interview was a smash, because it just went off-the-charts with the adlibbing.

Loved the Mad Men bit, the riot (great parody of lunacy in recent history 🤣) and the (very realistic) Johnny Carson clip.

The Johnny Carson clip !! Let’s talk about that. I thought it WAS Carson but now I find out it’s Kyle Dunnigan (whom I’ve never even heard of!) unbelievable! Still can’t believe how much he looks and sounds like Johnny. (He also plays Cronkite) so talented! Amazing!

I think the ad pitch worked also because they were both set in the 60s. So, it had a classic, related look and feel like Unfrosted.

David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years and I liked about 80 percent of the movie. I would of liked to ask Mr. Signfeld was it really necessary to put the January 6, scene in his movie. I was told he has no filter and this scene proves it. From a filmmaker perspective it does not fit the rest of the movie. The movie takes place in the 1960’s Why not have a general protest scene and he would of gotten his joke. It just felt like he didn’t think it through, it would remind the victims and their families of that tragedy. He seam to forget that people were killed and injured. I been told on You Tube and Facebook that it was no big deal, it took me some time but I now understand they must be 45 supporters to not look at the big picture. People were surprised when I called Netflix to complain, yes you can do that I talked to a live operator and she read me her script and made a note of it. I know Netflix can show everything they want but I felt that they should know what they are showing. See you at the movies! 😊

Why did they have write a part for Jim Gaffigan where he actually looked even older than in real life?

Nobody's going to say they don't eat cereal because of harmful pesticides? That way you could at least educate the ignorant public. especially Kelloggs 😂

It’s a bad movie that is deservedly getting panned by most critics. Bad idea for a movie. A Seinfeld vanity project.

I don’t think it was bad. It wasn’t good. But I smiled a couple of times. I didn’t think the movie was more than it was promoting to be. Critics love finding the negative, it’s their job. I liked the movie because it didn’t have a political or social narrative that fits a democratic. Kind of refreshing. But people like to complain about something or they feel left out. Just my opinion. But I won’t be holding my breath for Unfrosted 2 .

So you skipped the part where they try to take over the building and Hugh Grant is dressed like the whacko with the horns and the fur at the violent riot on January 6th? 🤣 And the things Hugh was screaming out at the crowd of rioting mascots?? Like “Fight like Hell or you won’t HAVE a breakfast!”
Well, then, I guess that you probably would think there was no poking fun at that lunacy at all. Good thing you missed it. It was priceless. 😝

Spinal Tap can hardly be called a movie classic with a cast including "Meathead" from Archie Bunker and "Lennie" from Laverne and Shirley

They’re both amazing actors, especially Michael McKean. And it absolutely is a classic. But you’re probably not a musician, so a lot of it would just go right over your head. Must be a drag.

Bad casting hurt Unfrosted. Every second of Amy Schumer was hard to watch.
Amy used to be quite funny early on, then something happen and it left her.
Amy gave Jerry's daughter her first comedey writing job, so Jerry had to pay her back.
Also, the fast talking dumpster kids helped ruin this movie.
It was like a Seinfeld episode, that was 60 minutes too long.

Thanks for the thumbs-down "worst movie" comment. Today's "worst movie" reviews, particularly about 'comedy-movie's', instantly encourage me to want to see those movies.
That's because I'll give ANYBODY, whose intent is to make me laugh, a chance.

Nah. Mamma Mia is the worst movie ever made. If you had never heard ABBA before it, you’d definitely hate ABBA with that as your point of reference. Bad singing, bad casting (too old, too awful), bad everything except for the arrangements, which were done by Benny. Biggest pile of crap ever created. And I’ve seen “The Room”. This was a kooky movie. The funniest scene was the riot scene which was clearly a parody of the lunacy of recent history.
