From the artistic and lore perspective, Nightmare is easily the most awesome character in the game. However, I constantly lose to opponents at close range who have superior frame data. You literally get stabbed to death by a thousand needles. It's infuriating.
Thank you very much for this guide Hayate it's a pleasure to see that Keev one of the best Nightmare assists you for this guide ! I can't wait for the french version !

@@nextlvl810 I've been playing Yoshi since SC2 (He and Link were my go to's). I think my favorite moveset for him was (that games problems aside) SC5 as it was very mixup heavy. I'm going to have to take him to the lab in 6 to see whats up, but playing the beta (on Xbox) I've been doing pretty well. I had a particularly close 2/3 set with a Nightmare player last night that came down to the wire and got me hyped.
Wow! They really nerfed poor ol' Nightmare. Now he depends, on jrpg type armour moves to keep an advantage. And needs soul charge to perform certain normal attacks, that he could easily do in Dreamcast Soul Calibur 1. :p But overall, thanks for the breakdown vid dude. ^_^ Looking forward to the next one. ^_^
So since terror charge gives him the advantages of being soul charged does it also have the disadvantages? For instance moves that lethal hit on soul charged opponents?
Salut je te félicite pour ta vidéo j'attends la version française avec impatience mais c'est vraiment agréable de voir une perso qui explique très bien. et tu pense faire quoi comme prochain perso ?
I have a question, why 6A (hold) makes me to go to the night side stance and sometimes I meet online people that goes to the night behind stance with the same move? Do I have to press some other command during this move?
Hopefully he won’t get poked out by good close range characters. I remember natsu in scv was like a bane for nightmare. Good thing there’s reversal edge and infinite guard impacts. Mmwhhahha
A:ga nerf was completely uneccesary, He already has few get off me options and now its unsafe, plus high crush able, and its not an easy command to do consistently on pad.
I can't tell if ex meter moves are back. I haven't seen anyone mention that if it's another use for meter or not but I saw a yoshi using ex moves in a tournament earlier today
I ended up finding plnety of matches in the second and third days. It was all good. I hope your activities with Kayane went well. Thanks again for the tutos.
How does a pressure character punish/avoid 6A+B??? Especially when nightmare has meter? The move seems unstoppable. Parrys mid, lows and throws. Safe and can combo into a 40% super. Lol. Really????
For anyone who finds this video useful, more power to you. I had to stop watching at the 1:20 mark. I can't take someone seriously when they say NM is "slow". He is by no means slow at all. While he is not fast either, he has very quick moves, and his agility is absurdly high for the weapon he uses. I am by no means flaming. I'm sure this video has very useful information. I'd simply rather find that information elsewhere. The subject of how NM's speed is a controversial one. People say he is slow, but do you know how much hate mail I receive as a NM main, because they claim he is too fast when I use him, so I have to be cheating? Regardless. I hope people find this useful, as NM mains is something this series lacks, and I love NM mirror matches.
At least, in close range, they removed him his standing which was his fastest attack being i12. So he is even slower at close range. But yeah his overall speed compare to his weapon and his mobility is still vert good. But be carefull 33B has been nerf for the mobility, while 6AA is very strong.
Hey sorry, those videos are not easy, I'am doing more for beginners now. Maybe it is because the notation? Also, try asking live in my stream I can help you.
@@HayateEIN yea it's kinda wierd I've always played fighting games since I was little and I would spend hours in training mode because I didnt get the kb and b1
I don't know I know I'm bad at this game but I'm really not liking him right now. I feel like no one has to respect or fear anything he does and it's never my turn to attack even when I land the hit.
I'm new to the game but I feel the comple opposite. Using Nightmare, I feel like it's almost always my turn. He can just burst out of most things and then his combos may not be long but 2-3 hits and your out a good chunk. Plus his super acts as a parry almost so you can use it to whiff punish too.
I mean this in a constructive way, but if this is how you feel, you simply are not using him right. If you use NM correctly, the opponent should feel like they CAN'T have a turn to attack. As an NM main, I find that pressure, and walls are devastating. Of course, keep your defenses up at the right moments. NM is simply capable of attacking a LOT while destroying your opponent's guard. Feints using his stances and attack cancels are a godsend.
@@somethingsomething9006 Not in every cases, because he will always tend to use attacks that go into a close-up. Example: 66a, 66b (from a former crouch), and 88ab (IV)/88aa[grim stride, a] 44kk[k] into a nearby wall can punish even if the second hit is blocked. 1k is also an very useful poke for rushing situations, "if you or your opponent is rushing." In summary, he is more "random" upclose and hard to read, even 3aa is random to encounter. And of course, NSS, a[a] & k.
@@sixtenalin5300 A lot of the attacks you mentioned have pretty decent recovery. I never said he sucks at getting in close, because he doesn't, it's just that when he's actually up close, his best attacks/options are more limited compared to when he's mid range. If anything Nightmare is amazing close range against morons who try to spam/mash their way out. If you play patiently and defend yourself, the holes in his offense become clear. This is why Nightmare dominates low level play, but struggles more at high levels.
@@somethingsomething9006 And that's why you want to "cancel" if that's a way to say it. One of the best moves he has in close range, that also deals alot of damage is NSS bA slide, which is best used when you anticipate the opponents vertical. Being "random" is one of the best ways of playing him, be passive-aggresive i'd say. Because you can't read all the moves coming out, and that goes with many fighting games. Use moves that no one would expect, not even yourself, only trust your instincts. Nightmare is very vary that is what makes him playable, and that he need to get the best results in any way. In IV I trusted myself unto this and just impacts come easy on any character I play against, in that way your still ahead of your opponent and can outplay them easily.
Loving how his soul charge is a nod to Night Terror in a way.
not just that but its also a cool ref to his soul charge from sc2

This Nightmare explosion has been a bitch to play against online
To deal versus it, you have to use more lows, throws and break attacks, that's the only way to counter it.

I have a question, why 6A (hold) makes me to go to the night side stance and sometimes I meet online people that goes to the night behind stance with the same move? Do I have to press some other command during this move?
6AAG I guess
for some reason i got a soul calibu ad immediately followed by a reeses ad. Has anybody been gettung two ads in a row before videos play?
That's pretty strange, wtf
Nightmare is a intermediate power character
Hopefully he won’t get poked out by good close range characters. I remember natsu in scv was like a bane for nightmare.
Good thing there’s reversal edge and infinite guard impacts. Mmwhhahha
Good thing he still has his grim stride attack/impact. Though the timing seems to be a lot more strict :l
Mitsurugi next!
I got some new informations on him, why not!
grimm step KK? That looks similar to his "attack-grab" A+K move from SCIV.
A:ga nerf was completely uneccesary, He already has few get off me options and now its unsafe, plus high crush able, and its not an easy command to do consistently on pad.

Calibur1980
The armor only has specific frames.
Makhi Laveau what specific frames? What animation? Before the animation? During the animation? How many frames is the window? -12? -7? -20?
Calibur1980 it also definitely does not parry low attacks, even thought it says so in game.
I’d say from about 2-3 frames after startup armor starts.
I wonder if Night-Terror will be in?
